Howard.... -
Reputation pick. Howard has been average this year but has the ability to play much higher. I agree that this may take some pressure off of him and he can start playing like an underdog trying to earn his way up the pecking order.

I see Deke and Nyquist wearing the A at some point. Can't say who wears the C at this point. Hopefully a young Centre will emerge as a top player who can complete the trio (maybe Jarnkrok but I don't see much leadership from him yet in AHL).

Considering Mantha put one on a platter for Drouin I would say its a two way street. Drouin had a secondary assist on Mantha's goal and Mantha was battling in front of the net so you can't say Drouin gifted him that. Mantha will pot the chances he gets - thats all him. He has great instincts around the net and seems to be in the right place. You can't teach that. Its not like Mantha is getting buckets of chances from Drouin and converting a few and his stats look good - he has been very efficient with his scoring opportunities.

Where is Deke?

This would be awesome for NHL ref accountability. If all refs wore these we could see what they see during games and understand how their positioning may affect calls etc. In a way it helps fans understand why refs made calls that night and also holds refs accountable if they clearly missed things right in front of them.

My only concern is where will Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, Backman play in a few years? Sure you could take away Kindl, Lashoff, and Quincey but then you add Girardi that leaves only spot 6 and 7 open for the next 5 or so years. He IS what we need, but it handicaps us for the future I think and that is why holland won't do it.

Thing is - nobody except Weiss has any clue when this injury happened. He could have had groin issues earlier and a hernia now - you and I don't know. It truly hurts to bend over with a hernia of this nature and I have a hard time believing he played through this all season the way it is. I can't just let him off the hook and say it was admirable. In all honesty, he should have taken it upon himself to sit and get it looked at instead of playing if it affected him to the point where he thought he was a different player.

Edler has played so poor this season he is being thrown into all the VAN trade proposals on Hf. His value is at an all time low right now. The only reason I see us getting him is because we are now in the east. But even so it would cost us one of Jurco/Tatar/Nyquist and a 1st and one of our d prospects. I'd be okay with Tatar, Almquist, 1st but not much more. We have too much promise in our young guys right now to take shortcuts and trade them.

GDT 12/23 GDT : Islanders 3 at Red Wings 0

LGW!!!! I still have low expectations even with Nyquist returning. But hopefully they prove themselves again! I'm just going to leave this here for people's enjoyment - didn't want to start a whole thread. -
I think people are used to the west, where our current points total barely gets us into the playoffs. Also, even though we are getting points here and there with OT games - the quality of our play has regressed heavily over the last 2 years. Our identity as a puck possession team has diminished so we don't look as dominant. We are undergoing roster turnover right now so it is to be expected (at least by me).

gdt 12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)

Agreed. For some reason I just don't see Andersson as a long term option on the Wings. Sheahan looks to have more in the toolbox to be effective out there. A large part of this is his skating which is much better than Andersson's. -
This is my last straw with Weiss. If he comes back after the surgery and shows piss poor effort again I won't be looking for him to succeed here anymore. Can only hope this fixes him.

Yep. I LOVE that jacket too. Custom made tho...

Monday we see Helm and Abby in. Franzen and Gus should be soon as well hopefully. Then Z back around 28th. -
Monday we get Helm and Abby back. Starting to look something resembling an nhl roster.

Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena

Are there images of the projected new arena? -
On the bright side - this gives him an out on all the bad play he exhibited - even if it didn't have an effect until recently (who knows). For his confidence it will be nice to have something to blame his play on and then come back believing he can now play like his old self.

I think when guys get really fired up after a fight or nasty hit etc. it is better to take them to the box to cool down. The bench is too close to the opposing team's bench in those situations. Also I always liked the idea of the "shame" a player feels when he skates back to the bench from the penalty box when the opposing team converts a PP. Also I'd like to see the extra revenue generated by a couple seats... I would guess it would be a drop in the pond.

Alfie is producing. He is producing and looks much faster and effective than young guys like Andersson. He still puts in the hard work and doesn't float shifts like Bert does. Alfie plays hard minutes and grinds when need be. Ohya, he's also carrying the pp.
