Perhaps the "big bad east" is taking its tole on the boys. I gotta say the wings have been getting hammered lately since the sens beat us that way and other teams seem to be following this tactic.
-
I would have said Howard was above average before this season. He hasn't "stolen" and games I can think of this season - which a starting goalie should do from time to time. Within this CURRENT team - Howard is an average goalie. I argue that Crawford would look just as average if he played on this team - neither are top calibre goalies in my mind.

Only reason McLeod was suspended is because he isn't a very important player to the Aves. Honestly the NHL has no problem suspending lower tier players but never come down hard on higher end players. Kronner even said he felt he was partially at fault for the hit and McLeod was still suspended. Doesn't help that Shanny goes soft when assessing wings suspensions so as not to tarnish his reputation (can someone say overcompensating). Considering the NHL has time to review these suspensions you would think they would be consistent - but there have been so many f***ups I just don't understand where they are coming from.

He looks like he's playing with mono out there. Tats lost 3 teeth tonight and had more heart in his little finger than Weiss did in his entire body.
-
I coulda dealt with a 4-1 thrashing due to no dats and z but being up 3-1 hurt - I agree. I'm livid. We should have at the very least escaped with points on the night.
-
He hasn't played with nearly the energy I saw him play with in FLA. Your energy level should show no matter where you are in lineup - see Tatar. His skating is much slower and he isn't playing the body as much. He isn't shooting much at all. I need SOMETHING from this guy to make me believe. I so badly want him to break out and I'm looking for things to compliment him on but tonight he didn't do much. The penalty he took was so dumb I couldn't believe it - was a complete game changer and I see why Babs benched him after - he needs to realize this effort is not acceptable.
-
Did he get a shift within the last 10 minutes? Babs moved cleary onto the top line after weiss took the penalty and rightfully so. Weiss should have come out with a lot more fire and effort than he brought. There were times he coasted rather than skating to areas of the ice where he really needed to be to help out or back check. Not impressed.
-
Howard was underwhelming (can you make a big save to keep us in it?). Weiss was a huge disappointment - especially the penalty he took that lead to the tying goal.
-
Apart from the assist - Weiss has looked unimpressive tonight. He took a boneheaded penalty in the flyers zone which lead to their tying goal. Babs has put cleary on the first line now instead. I've been defending Weiss for this entire season but at this point I just don't think he will step up - he has had a chance to show some jump but he has been very "meh" tonight.
-
can't change numbers in the middle of the season.
-
With Z and Dats both out this is the perfect situation for Weiss to find his game. He will be playing top line minutes with better line mates and simply MUST put up points or we are screwed. If Weiss gets going out of this whole ordeal it may be worth it in the long run.

Do Quincey and Smith have a future in Detroit?
dirtydangles replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Q has 0 future with this organization after this year from the way it looks now. Smith is not going anywhere. Lashoff is expendable once our young talent makes the move up and I see Kindl as expendable after Lashoff possibly in a trade. Kindl actually holds value right now but I don't think he is necessarily what this team needs long term. -
injured Zetterberg out at least 2 weeks with herniated disc

Ideally holland would bring someone up with top 6 talent to try to keep the scoring going. however, we all know we will see glendening or another bottom 6 guy step in. (not that I don't like glendening - i just don't think he provides what we need) -
we want no part of booth. guy is overpaid and can't stay healthy. we don't need that dead weight for this season and next. franzen is much better than booth. Weiss and booth have been split for so long it won't make a difference towards chemistry - also chemistry means nothing when they are both playing in babs' system where they aren't just running and gunning like in FLA.

Will the real Stephen Weiss please stand up? -
He is playing for Torts and why not buy low? we can't afford a top form edler.

This idea came from discussion with a few wings fans outside of LGW. The biggest organization need of the Red Wings is a future 1st line C in the pipeline to take over for Z and Dats. Jarnkrok may pan out to be a top line C but we realistically need 2. Its pretty obvious that top line C's don't just float around the UFA market or become available through trade, so Holland has to find one through the draft (and this won't happen late in the first round where we are picking). This year's draft is shaping up to be less deep than most. How would people feel about trading our 1st this year to a desperate team for their 1st next year? This would leave us with 2 1st rounders for the next draft to potentially use in a package with other pieces to trade up and draft a top line centre. I can see him ponying up assets for Edler possibly - but not Nyquist or Smith. Think our 1st + Tatar + Ouellet/Backman + Cap dump. Most canucks fans wouldn't be happy with that but Edler has been pretty bad this year and his stock has fallen - also he has a NTC which would rule out some teams.

I said this all along. #90 is cursed. plain and simple

Amazing play tonight from Smitty. He had some really nice D plays in addition to his offence. Broke up a 2 on 1 like a vet. He is only getting better. You can see other teams really don't like his snarl out there.
-
This is Holland's fault. You can leave someone in the AHL all you want to develop but the game is different in the NHL and you have to expect he will need some time to find his game at this level regardless of his age.
-
I can only hope...
-
Quincey is statistically the worst defender in the league right now. He has the worst +/- and only 3 assists with 22min in minor penalties. If Holland says that I quit.

Pre-game discussion 11/27 Bruins: Dats out. Gus in.

The "unintentional" excuse for the elbow is bulls***. As an NHL player you need to be in control of your body at all times and if you aren't and it results in injury - you deserve to be suspended and learn to be in control from now on. This hit was SO different from the Ryan hit that Shanny cited.
