Chicago has that Saad kid who is really impressing me and sticking with the stars and quietly developing. Why can't we function like this? Tatar should be up in the top six learning with the best along with Nyquist as well. Its better to do this NOW while Z and Dats are producing so that we don't have to rely on the kids to be THE guys right away.

What happens when guys get healthy and Nyquist is out of options after playing 2 games? We will be screwed and at the mercy of other teams who may need injury replacements.

Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

This. The young guns also contributed majorly during the run. Albeit Cleary did too but he was being plugged with far better players. Cleary on the 3rd/4th line won't be putting up many points or grinding down the opposition. -

EVERY superstar was at one point a prospect. Its like opening up a pack of hockey cards and getting a really rare one - you don't know until you give it a try. Holland just seems reluctant to try these kids out and give them a true shot - you and I don't know their true potential until they get a chance to grow. -

Guys like Jurco, Pulks, Jarnkrok must see this and realize no matter how amazing they play they won't see the NHL anytime soon. There is little incentive at this point for the kids to work hard because there is not much to earn right now other than the love of griffins fans. -

Ken Holland is too sentimental with his players. At some point you have to cut the cord and do what is best for the team and not for your personal friendships. -

If Holland's plan is to pawn off Tatar/Nyquist for picks then I will be furious - he is supposed to by loyal so he should show some loyalty to prospects that spent way too much time in the AHL paying their dues. The only way I can accept this kind of signing is if we are making a trade for an established Dman. -

So much for seeing the young guns at forward this season... they will be 25 by the time the break in. Holland cites inexperience as a factor in taking vets over kids but they can't gain any without playing time with the big club... Next year I hope we truly trim the fat and move on from these old guys and give the youth a chance - it is also much more affordable cap-wise. You can have Tatar for 900k or Cleary for 1.75 mill. -
Bogosian and James Neal. No time to set up trade possibilities - we don't have the assets for both either.

I completely disagree with the premise here. In order to be a professional at your job it does not imply that you take the most money. Many people choose to turn down job opportunities that offer greater financial compensation for many reasons such as comfort, work environment, loyalty, colleagues, etc. Squeezing pennies out of your employers isn't part of being a professional. I think that the truth is that Sammy values money higher than the other things I listed and that has no barring on his status as a professional hockey player.

San Jose Sharks decide to use practice jerseys from now on...

I dislike the fact that their shoulder patch is practically the same as the front logo - looks kinda stupid. -
Signed Wings sign Nyquist to 2-year, $1.9m deal ($950k/yr cap hit)

Very good signing due to the cap hit. Should be a bargain for the next two years. Let the cuts begin! -
Signed Joakim Andersson re-signs, 2yrs, $1.465m ($732,500k cap hit)

Sweeeeettttt cap hit -
I would wait until the season starts to get a youngster jersey. I think I read somewhere that Nyquist might not stay with 14 and there seems to be a lot of number shuffling going on in the organization at present so I'd hold off until the season starts. Do they want Sammy to replace him on RW?????????
-
This could backfire on smith - he played poorly last season so he will likely get less than he may be hoping for. Babs will be unimpressed too I bet - could result in him taking a bit more heat for his mistakes.
-
Franzen plays RW usually. So: Zetterberg - Dats - Alfie Nyquist - Weiss - Franzen Tatar - Helm - Abby Miller - Andersson - Eaves/Bert Emmerton, Sammy The only player on off wing is Abby and he will just grind anyways. Or do: Miller - Helm - Eaves Tatar - Andersson - Abby As a 3A/3B option

If we regular buyout Sammy and trade Tootoo (tradeable) we look like we are in pretty good shape before signing our 3 big RFAs - If I were Holland that is what I'd do. CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($5.500m) NYQUIST / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / ANDERSSON / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / SMITH Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) OTHER Buyout: Mikael Samuelsson ($1.000m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,102,879; BONUSES: $3,010,000 CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $6,207,121

Not to nitpick but with the correct LW/RW assignments it would be something like this. I would prefer this: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Nyquist - Weiss - Franzen Tatar - Helm - Abby Miller - Andersson - Bert/Eaves/Tootoo If Franzen works hard during the regular season I would be very comfortable with that lineup. Each line has a shooter and a setup man. I think having one player on each line that is huge for the sake of being huge is a waste of time - you need to give the best players the top minutes and get them out there as much as possible together. Also, chemistry is chemistry so if something that looks weird on paper works then go for it.
-
Just wanted to see Shanny and Cheli in there. I am very pleased.
-
That would NEVER happen. If Bogo was that cheap you would see every team in the league outbidding that.
-
Well I respond - did anyone actually believe Sammy would be so low to claim injured status to avoid being bought out after seeming perfectly fine and having a broken nail? That was showing little class.
-
This was my first concern. It takes a special kind of person to f*** over a team and still manage to remain friends with the players... I don't see Babs welcoming him back into the starting lineup with open arms either.
-
Can you imagine trading him for an exchanged 7th round pick? Sammy 7th round pick for 7th round pick Literally selling the guy for a bag of pucks to whoever wants him.
-
Well we would have it no matter what... and it would be 2.9mill I believe. Might as well make Sammy's life miserable if he wants to stick around that bad and mess with Holland's plans. I have a feeling the threat of waivers/sent down would sway Sammy's attitude.
