WCF : (5) Los Angeles Kings vs. (1) Chicago Blackhawks

Quick was way too far out on that 2 on 1 for my taste.

What would you give up for Malkin?

Spot on with this. Our future stars must come from within. Roster/cap turnover is a vital part of having a competitive roster with great rookies on cheap deals along with older stars on big deals-this creates depth. When you try to load up with stars like Pitts has done it ends up screwing your cap as we saw before the new cba with staal. Most teams have a bad contract or two just like us and the pens and paying top dollar for every player ends up killing the team in the long run.The pens need to move some Aging Dmen and inject some of their talented d prospects with low cap hits.

    Franzen Buyout?

I think you have to look at amnesty for franzen after next season. We can use his production for another year but there is no way he makes it to 2020 as a useful player. By 2020 we will have current rookies getting nice big deals and we can't afford to have cap penalties hampering us long term. We will have Z's 6mill caphit for the next 8 years so we need to think about parting with Franzen's for the future.

    If Hossa gets bought out..

The question becomes how much do you think these guys will go for: Bickell Leddy Kruger If we can hammer out a reasonable number for each we will have an idea of their cap situation. Realistically I think they can make it work and buyout Hossa after next year. Edit: to make it work they would only be able to buyout 1 player this year and then hossa would be the buyout the following year so we need to keep that in mind.

INSANE grand rapids roster next season full of prospects

Im pretty sure jarnkrok is in gr next year. His 10 game stint was a trial run this year to give him a head start for next year.

Visors Required - New NHL Players in '13-'14

This is one rule change I think makes sense - the other s*** with the trapezoid and the new face-off penalty and puck over glass is garbage to me. I also hate the 3 point game inflation and instigator rule.

    If Hossa gets bought out..

Is it illegal to buyout a player and re-sign them? If a player and team could come to a common understanding that a contract hurts a team due to unexpected CBA changes they could perhaps work it out with a new contract with a shorter term for slightly higher cap hit.

INSANE grand rapids roster next season full of prospects

Jarnkrok is a big guy to leave out - unless you assume he makes the wings next year. I think Ferraro has better hands than Emdog but no space for him next year unless injuries hit. Almquist needs more strength still to handle the nhl forecheck

    If Hossa gets bought out..

What kind of contract would you be willing to shell out to hossa that would be competitive with other teams?

    Puck Over Glass

Well yes, I'd prefer this - that there is no penalty at all. But that isn't going to happen anytime soon with the way the nhl functions.

    New Dallas Stars uniforms

The shadowing in the logo with the D and the star dont match up properly so it just looks tacky. Cash grab trying to sell new jerseys.
  13. Ummm its okay i guess. I like that the metallics are gone - they look tacky on any jersey. White one kinda looks like the habs setup without the blue.

    Puck Over Glass

I'm sorry but I don't think cases where its accidental warrant a 2min penalty. A lot of the time its bad ice to blame for a puck going over the glass. Why not just raise the glass higher so its harder to put it out of play (I don't actually believe this).
  15. dirtydangles

    Puck Over Glass

This individual gets it. The refs already make every other call with discretion so why not this one? Sure, its frustrating when they are inconsistent with every other call on the ice - but its even worse when they call unreasonable delay of game penalties automatically when the play itself would have had little impact on the game itself. Its like a cop-out for the refs when it happens because its just the way the rule is written. In a game where the refs decide to put the whistles away and let things go they aren't able to use discretion on an accidental puck over the glass incident. A failed clear off the boards shouldn't warrant the same penalty (2min) as a boarding call or something legitimate.

    Holland on The Huge Show.

While we are at it - Fil never drives the net entering the zone - he passes the blue line and then twirls back towards the boards and looks to pass or dump it. The guy is so one dimensional in his play sometimes.

So many people passing over Lashoff in their rosters for Cola - is there a particular reason for this? I thought Lashoff played pretty well overall and was a solid stay at home guy that was a little nervous before being sent down.

    Standing pat according to Malik

We need to shed a dman - unless we give up on Lashoff. I think we should amnesty Cola personally. I think Bert can be of use for one more year as a big body in a 2/3 line role. Sammy is a no brainer to me for amnesty -probably won't happen - but if it doesn't and helm gets healthy we may not even have a regular roster spot for nyquist let alone tatar.
  20. IF we are splitting hairs and trying to find problems I would say my only problem is that you have mostly RH dmen. That is all.

Wings-Hawks Gm 7 highest rated hockey game ever on NBCS

This will only encourage the nhl to promote reffing that will even up a series.

    Wow... Danny Cleary

If we didn't have so many worthy guys in GR itching for a spot I'd be all for keeping Cleary around. The problem is that with his age and body I see him disappearing in an 82 game season and who knows if he would hold up until the playoffs. Guy is a warrior - make no mistake - but we would be better off long term by giving deserving kids the experience they need to develop and become players of value for this team. Cleary currently holds little value to other teams but if some of our prospects had a chance to shine in the nhl - their value would skyrocket and they could either stay or be used in a trade.

    The *unrealistic* 2013 off-season thread

After further looks I would be happy with this for next year. I think that we have enough talented prospects that we dont need to shell out big cash and long term contracts for overpriced UFAs. I'd keep the contracts short term and promote the youth as they earn it. I think Abby can keep growing in his role in the top 6 and be a Dustin Brown-esque type guy. We need another guy who has size to add to the bottom 6 but can ride along in the top 6 if needed and that guy could be Bickell. Soon enough we will see Nyquist and Tatar become much more effective and we don't want to be stuck with a longterm deal like the Franzen one on an old UFA. This also leaves money to re-sign Dats with a nice raise. The *unrealistic* 2013 off-season thread

I want to see Tatar and Nyquist up for good. Id like to have a look at jarnkrok and pulks at some point in the season. Lashoff should replace Cola (amnesty) and Sammy should be amnestied too. Cleary needs to make way for some youngsters. Id be happy with that for now as it poises the team for some moves later on that could happen.

Darren Helm - Career in Question?

There are two options I guess. One is to just rest and see if it goes away. The other is to stress himself and try to illuminate the source of the injury by causing/recreating the injury for doctors to look at. There are no guarantees either way.
