I think this should say Quincey.

It was pretty evident tonight that Nyquist isn't strong enough just yet. He is still off balance quite a bit especially on the forecheck. When he gets that level of strength he needs he could start to take over games.

This thread screams CLEARY. - Cleary shoots in terrible positions - Filppula twirls back after entering the zone EVERY time - never goes to the net. - Miller always goes to the corner and gets squeezed against the boards and the puck stollen - Brunner shoots with no traffic all the time - Franzen - flips the puck into goalie's glove upon entering the zone - Kronwall tries to drag the puck along the blueline and shoot - usually hits someone - Z and Dats are usually pretty good at being unique but are limited by what teammates offer them positionally

we look like garbage even after the goal. we run the exact same zone entry stuff over and over again and end up in the corner then lose the puck. everyone needs to shoot more. -
While I agree that we need to trade Datsyuk for max assets if he is leaving - i think that bringing in all our prospects at once is a bad idea. I think that we should explore: - Trading Datsyuk (if leaving) and Fil asap and get what we can - Keep Franzen for now - LTIR Bert so we don't go on the hook for his cap hit. - Trade/Amnesty Sammy - Trade/Amnesty Colo - Keep Quincey for now unless included in a trade (not losing him for nothing after giving up first rounder) - Let White and Cleary Walk - Re-up Miller for a year or two - Keep Eaves - Keep core of Zetterberg, Franzen, Brunner, Helm, Kronner, Ericsson with some good grinders like Eaves, Miller to avoid being too young - Promote Jarnkrok, Tatar, Nyquist, Andersson, Smith, Lashoff, Backman Full time next season - (Backman already plays for Sweden) - Wait a year or two to promote all of Sproul, Ouellet, Pulkkinen - Be active in the UFA and trade market (We have a lot of forward and D assets that are young and talented and with Kindl emerging too we can afford to move some things around) - try to swing a few trades for young assets not fully valued yet (Gormley, Rundblad, etc.) If re-built correctly, this process will take another 2-3 seasons to come to fruition and possibly competing to be a playoff team again. The key is getting Jarnkrok and Backman in now so they are comfortable when the 2 years are up. I won't project a lineup because who knows which guys will be traded and for whom. Who knows who will hit free agency either. It all depends on 29 other teams going forward.

This. People forget that Detroit has a new set of trading partners now that we are moving East. If teams can deal with potentially playing detroit in the playoffs then we can definitely swing deals with other teams in the West.

I think we were all pissed - including Babs when holland didn't pony up the assets to land brent burns a couple years back. That - to me - was a no brainer deal that he truly missed on. A couple years ago Bogosian was somewhat rumoured to be available when he was playing very poorly and Holland dismissed that idea too (i think rumoured price was Ericsson+Hudler+2nd) - now look at the guy. I'm almost hoping Holland retires soon so that we can have a little more unpredictability. I think that RIGHT NOW would be the time to mix it up as we are heading to a new division and conference and we have a new set of trading partners to deal with. There isn't enough on the line for players who don't perform. At worst you see a guy like White benched rather than traded. There is no accountability left in our organization to drive players forward to work harder. Almost all of our recent free agent signings have been players hoping to end their career in Detroit with respect (Modano, Bert, Sammy, even Knuble tried to get in on it).

Kindl has looked like a legit #5 dman with 2nd pairing potential if he keeps this pace. I feel like it was confidence all along that was inhibiting him in the past. He just needed a legit chance at staying in the lineup and getting comfortable. Many young players "play shy" when they are in and out of the lineup too afraid to make a mistake.

This team is STALE. I get this taste in my mouth like I'm licking a 9V battery when I think about our team. We just don't have that "something" anymore that made us a winner.
-
Ya if he stays on IR we don't have his cap hit affecting us
-
he can't retire, we would be on the hook for his cap hit since he signed a 35+ contract. see chris pronger for example.

This barely got one game suspension for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tdGZAsNTro

we get 2 amnesty buyouts over the next 2 seasons. I agree that at least one should be a forward.
-
i want him regardless.
-
sorry but did perry come out on record saying he "wanted 8.25 per?" it seems more likely to me that he was offered a matching contract to getzlaf but wants to test the market instead of the big deal.
-
This. I think we have to become a team that plays TEAM defense until we develop a player of that calibre on our own. I think(hope) it could be one of sproul/ouellet/backman that steps up and becomes something special.
-
It might not be the best idea of a fair trade but your name kinda gives away your attitude about losing nyquist. I think there is something there around fil and perry with us adding a first rounder and decent prospect. Perry is the kind of player we NEED. Hard nosed and scores a butload. I'd be willing to overpay in that case. Not 8.25mill but in the ballpark of 7.5millper over a long term deal.
-
I'd love to get perry. I think he'd make franzen redundant. I'd be willing to give up a lot for him too in addition to a contract around 7.5per. I know that's not 8.5 mill but holland won't go crazy.
-
I like it but without sheahan as the 13th forward. he will do better getting big minutes in GR.
-
you traded and signed nyquist? also kindl is looking much better and I would play him over cola at this point.
