Cory Emmerton and Petr Mrazek sent to Grand Rapids

Do we see Miller center the 4th now? -
My fears is that Babs' comments about the 2nd line needing a change means Cleary getting a promotion. Drop Franzen to the 3rd, put Tatar in his place, Cleary on the 4th, & Sammy in the press box instead. And while we're at it, sit Smith or Q for Lashoff for a few games.

It might just be me, but I'm glad to have an answer to the question "What would it be like if an angry, violent 15 year old punk was an NHL head coach?" answered. Thanks Patty!

Steve Yzerman wants Game Misconduct penalties for fighting
ogreslayer replied to thegerkin's topic in General
I wouldn't necessarily say his comments are being exaggerated, it feels more like people are selectively ignoring this part of his comments. It feels more to me like he's recommending the NHL follow the teaching of modern day philosopher Mike Ehrmantraut... "No half measures". -

And there's quite a bit of research going on that substantiates that. Here's one in particular that focused on high school football & hockey players: http://breakingmuscle.com/health-medicine/repeated-small-blows-not-concussion-could-be-the-real-danger-in-high-impact-sports -
I think every team in the NHL should just troll the hell out of Roy now to see how quickly he suffers a complete mental breakdown. Institutionalized by the Olympic break or earlier?

Mantha is crushing the Q, 4 goals and an assist tonight
ogreslayer replied to matthewdanna's topic in Prospects
Overall minimum age to be eligible for the AHL, outside of the transfer agreement between the NHL & CHL, is 18 years old as of Sept 15 of each season. Mantha becomes eligible for the AHL as soon as his season in the Q is done next spring. I'm pretty sure they have to turn 20 in the calendar year in which they sign their pro contract. Mantha turns 20 next September so he should be eligible to sign. -
Would it be an automatic game misconduct if a player drove one of these to the arena too? Yes if the NHL is going to enforce a rule from 1964, I'm going to reference a car produced in 1948. Makes as much sense as what the NHL head office is doing.

Almost have to assume that the Wings will sign him to a pro contract as soon as his season's done in the Q. Would love to see him get some time in GR, if not a game maybe in Detroit for the hell of it, before the 2013-14 season's done. -
Rumors were that the Pens, Ducks, Flyers, & Panthers had interest in Cleary. Interest does not equal contract offer, as one can see in Philly's case for example. As for Crosby calling Cleary to recruit him to the Pens, the original source of that news made no mention of the fact that it was Ray Shero or anyone else in the Pittsburgh organization that put Crosby to that task. At least not according to all of the coverage I saw, but I'm certainly open to changing my perspective given solid evidence instead of rumors. Given the fact that Cleary was actually in Vail this offseason working out with a group of players including Crosby & the lack of a credible source stating Crosby was acting on the Pens front office's instructions or that an official contract was offered leads me to believe that Crosby was doing that recruiting of his on accord. The known facts are that terms were discussed with the Flyers if he made the team via a PTO but no official contract was on the table and that he did turn down two offers from Kenny prior to hitting the market. So in my opinion, Cleary returning to the Wings had as much if not more to do with him taking the certainty of having a contract over possibly earning one in Philly with no other offers on the table than it did with his "heart belonging in Detroit". I won't say I blame him for making in essence a economic decision to return, but I think the whole anointing of St. Daniel for taking less money to "stay" is a little much. Back on topic though, I do have to say I like the message that waiving Emmerton sends about the confidence the Wings have in the future of players like Sheahan & Glendening. Not that I'm looking forward to more injuries (OK maybe I am a little in Sammy's case) but I am looking forward to seeing those two up with the big club a bit this season to get some more experience.
-
He took a big paycut because he didn't have a contract anywhere else. He was going to be on a PTO with the Flyers meaning he had no contract offer on the table from Philly when Holland signed him. And on the Sammy on waivers front, very much like the Tatar trade conversation, there is a difference between improbable & impossible. It's improbable Sammy gets sent down because of the money he makes & lack of cap relief the Wings would get, but it's not impossible. I have a feeling many thought that waiving Emmerton while Helm was on LTIR was going to be impossible too, yet here we are.

Mikael Samuelsson...soon (fingers crossed)
-
I think there's a fair chance that Miller might end up getting a look at centering the 4th. Glendenning won't be making the team to start the season. He has been mentioned as a possible call-up if more injuries happen.

Capgeek's own calculator must be wrong then. Move him down to GR through that & it only takes off $500k. Here are the results: http://capgeek.com/cap-calculator/roster/33164 CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($5.500m) Danny Cleary ($1.750m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / Brendan Smith ($1.263m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) OTHER Buried: Gustav Nyquist ($0.025m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,889,545; BONUSES: $2,160,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): -$429,545 With just DeKeyser removed. That plus Alfie's $2m & Tatar's $160k in bonuses are reflected in the Bonuses calc of $3.01m here. Take their cap payroll of $69.7m, subtract out the $3.01m in deferable bonuses, & subtract out the cap ceiling of $64.3m for their cap overage of $2,387,879. Nyquist, DeKeyser, & Emmerton do not get the Wings under the cap.

That certainly is a possibility but I do wonder why the word is starting to circulate on Helm already & not Eaves too if that is going to be the case. If Eaves is going to wind up there, I think we've seen the only waiver moves the Wings will make today unless they do try to get to the cap ceiling prior to putting those two on LTIR in order to maximize their allowable cap overage. Nyquist, DeKeyser, & Emmerton alone don't solve the Wings' cap overage. $25k of Nyquist's salary still counts, DeKeyser's base salary is only $500k with the rest being a bonus that will be deferred to next season, & Emmerton's at $533,333 for a grand total of $1,958,333 vs. a current cap overage once all bonuses are forwarded to next season of $2,387,879. (Granted, Helm being put on LTIR tomorrow & Emmerton going through waivers takes care of the cap issue until Helm's healthy)
-
Helm won't be back according to Helene St James. Being put on LTIR tomorrow. With that & Emmerton being sent down, the Wings are under the cap. Just one body then to move off the roster until Helm is healthy.
-
Make Cleary the new 4th line center maybe. OK, more realistically Miller will probably slide over to that spot with Helm out.
-
Helm being put on LTIR: Helene St. James @HeleneStJames3m Red Wings will place Darren Helm on Long Term Injured Reserve Monday.
-
I would doubt that given that Helm is in no way close to game shape. It might mean though that Eaves isn't going to get put on LTIR because he would be back prior to the 10 games/24 day minimum. Edit: And we have this now... Helene St. James @HeleneStJames3m Red Wings will place Darren Helm on Long Term Injured Reserve Monday.

ogreslayer replied to matthewdanna's topic in Prospects
Because he never played in the CHL. The only age limit for non-CHL players the AHL has is that they have to be at minimum 18. -
The Wings are currently over by roughly $2.4m if everyone were healthy and Nyquist & DeKeyser only account for $1.45m combined. With Helm, Eaves, & Tootoo all injured to start the season, there's no way Nyquist gets sent to GR, plus he only has 2 games he can play in the NHL before he loses his waiver exemption. In regards to sending DeKeyser down, I also don't see that happening because there's no way the Wings will start the season with 6 d-men. The injuries to Helm, Eaves, & Tootoo will already take care of the Wings getting cap & roster compliant for the start of the season. No need to do anything until one of those 3 get healthy enough to return to the lineup unless someone else is injured & targeted for LTIR.

The agreement between the NHL & CHL is that a player is not eligible for the professional minor leagues until the year they turn 20 or complete 4 years of major junior. The earliest Mantha would see AHL action will possibly be a stint in GR after his season in the Q is over next spring. I wouldn't be shocked if he spent 2013-14 in the Q either actually given the Wings' history with prospects.
