The reason the Wings have to pick up Doan is rather simple: We need to replace this face... With this one... Think of the photoshoppers Kenny, those innocent little photoshoppers.

Is that you Don Cherry?

I doubt Howson will still be around when Nash becomes a UFA in the 2018-2019 season.

Given that the name Bluejackets links to Ohio's contribution to the Civil War, do you think Howson would accept 40 acres & a Mule for Nash? What, no history buffs here?

Clearly states in the profile that it's a parody account.

Could Wings still make a move on Weber this year?
ogreslayer replied to turbowhistle86's topic in General
That move might screw the Pred's internal cap situation up for a year but not versus the true $70.2m NHL cap level. They're close to $30m under the NHL cap currently. Would they take that hit for 1 year? Quite possibly. -
The Ever-Increasing Cap, Ridiculous Contracts, and Hitting
ogreslayer replied to zenway9's topic in General
I had to share this. An absolutely hilarious find given what happened on Wednesday. An excerpt from an interview with Craig Leipold done in April of this year: Well it's a good thing that Leipold isn't contributing to the problem personally by overpaying players right? Right? http://m.startribune.com/sports/?id=146998015&c=y -
Could Wings still make a move on Weber this year?
ogreslayer replied to turbowhistle86's topic in General
Nashville already sent a qualifying offer to Weber & at his salary, it has to be at minimum what he made last season. By not filing for arbitation, that leaves the options at: Accepting the qualifying offer from Nashville, which locks him in at 1 or 2 years depending on what Weber wants & then he becomes a UFA at the end of that contract. Accepting an offer sheet from another team. If Nashville matches, they're locked in at the same exact contract in the offer sheet & they can't trade Weber for a year. If Nashville doesn't match, Weber moves on & the Preds get draft picks as compensation. No offer sheet is extended/accepted & Weber rejects Nashville's qualifying offer. He remains an RFA & if he's not under contract by 12/1, he sits out the entire season. My guess is that no teams extend an offer sheet, he accepts Nashville's qualifying offer for 1 more year, & then becomes a UFA after the season. -

Just basically means that he can still accept offer sheets from other teams which means jack & squat since I would be surprised if he gets any. After losing Suter, Nashville will be desperate enough to match any offer that comes in. -
No real need to "lure" Yandle in given that he's under contract. What we would need to do is have Doan convince the Coyote's organization to trade Yandle for a song. And by song, I mean for Emmerton & a Karen Newman CD.

Where do we go from here? Let's try a youth movement

I think most love the Abby that was playing for team USA at the World Cup. Sadly, that Abby has made rare appearances in Detroit so far though. -
Is there a way to make it conditional that if Pavs goes back to Russia, Semin automatically has to as well? Would the NHL & IIHF approve that?

signed Wings hire Tom Renney as Assistant Coach (3-year contract)
ogreslayer replied to Jesusberg's topic in General
Probably will go done as the most important signing off the offseason for the Wings. Now whether that's a good or bad thing....I'll let you determine that for yourself. -
It all depends on the cap hit of the contract signed. Here's this year's schedule: $1,110,249 or below: None Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194: Third-round choice Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391: Second-round choice Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585: First-round and third-round choice Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781: First-round, second-round and third-round choice Over $6,728,781 to $8,410,976: Two first-round choices, one second- and one third-round choice Over $8,410,976: Four first-round choices Those #s are from the 2011-2012 season

Can't link to it from work but Darren Dreger's reporting that Carolina's out on Nash. Howson wasn't budging from wanting Jeff Skinner evidently & Rutherford's not willing to give him up. Granted, if you believe the reports, Carolina was never on Nash's approved list anyway.

Go back & take a look at Sammy's comments from a couple of days ago about how he never wanted to leave in '09 & how glad he is to be back. Look at Tootoo's & Gustavsson's comments about how they felt when Kenny reached out to both of them about coming to Detroit. Just because 2 UFAs decided they would rather play somewhere else is more a reflection on them than it is on the Detroit Red Wings organ-i-zation imo.
-
If they aren't currently under contract, it's not. If they are though, it can possibly be construed as tampering. In other words, if the only contact Suter & Parise had where they discussed playing together in Minny occured since July 1st, it's not tampering. If they've been talking about it since the last Olympics however, then it could be considered tampering. Same situation as if Jake Gardiner had called up Justin Schultz in May to tell him he shouldn't sign with the Ducks & come play in Toronto with his old college buddy. Just like teams can't do that, neither can players based on the contract they sign to play in the NHL. Either way, pretty difficult to prove but that might not stop Poile & Lamoriello from claiming it.
-
With rumors out before July 1st that those two were going to pull a "Miami Heat", I do wonder if either Nashville or Jersey will push the NHL to investigate. The standard player contract in the NHL does include clauses that prevent players from tampering with other players who are under contract, just as teams can't. Would be extremely tough to prove though.

I wouldn't mind seeing: Cleary-Helm-Bertuzzi Abby-Sheahan-Tootoo I think that 4th line could be a terror cycling in the offensive zone & on the forecheck. Doubt it will happen this year though.

From the Khan article I linked previously... Just have to wonder if it's genuine interest or if Doan's agent is just looking for the Wings to ultimately set a price for Phoenix i.e. "Well, the Red Wings offered this much at this many years & we want you to match it". I'm hoping on the former.

One of the mentions I could find quickly: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/07/red_wings_limited_options_incl.html Scroll down to the Forwards portion of the story

Exactly. With Kenny stocking up on forwards, you have to think that he's gearing up for potential trades & from the reports I've seen Doan's agent has contacted Kenny on a number of occasions already to gauge interest if he were to leave Phoenix. Key point: Doan's agent is the one making the calls, not Kenny. I say that bodes well if Doan does pull the trigger. Let's also factor in that this presents a huge opportunity for our prospects & younger players to step up. Who knows what will happen if Nyquist gets a full season playing in the top 6 with Pavs or Hank, how Smith will develop getting top 4 minutes potentially, if the chance pushes Kindl or Ericsson to the next level, or if a Tatar or Sheahan will step up big time in camp & prove they should be full-timers. It's still a long way from April 2013 to write the Wings season off already.

The Ever-Increasing Cap, Ridiculous Contracts, and Hitting
ogreslayer replied to zenway9's topic in General
The dust may be settling on the UFA frenzy but it's just beginning on the CBA front. What's really going to be fun is listening to the owners ***** & moan about rising expenses due to players salaries while they completely ignore the fact that they're the ones who are handing out $5m+ contracts to the likes of Denis Widemans & Matt Carles and dropping $24-26m in salary & bonus each to Suter & Parise over a 12 month period. -
That was a poll done by the CBC with the NHLPA. Bylsma was first with 21%. Babs was 2nd with 18%: http://www.cbc.ca/sp...nt-to-play-for/ From there it drops to Tippet at 9%. Babcock an issue? Highly doubtful.
