lol it's funny because when I first started voicing my disgust in the often injured (EVERY SEASON) Cleary. I heard a lot of what you just said. I kept saying, you'll all see he won't do s*** this year. I stuck by my words all season, and now people are finally realizing this is Dan Cleary: -2.8 million this year to play 3rd/4th line -12 goals - ineffective on PP and too slow for PK -Horribly slow, lacking any intensity -Injured -"Cleary gets the puck, skates passed the blue line, fires ... clear shot the goalie saw it the whole way from 40 feet out." He is HURTING our team, I have no faith he will do anything when he gets on the ice. We have more effective players (Nyquist) who could use his ice time. Learn how to objectively look at the team and realize what players aren't worth playing anymore. Loyalty goes too far with this team sometimes.

^ Exactly; put more eloquently than I said it. You're correct when you say he brings nothing to the team. We have leadership, and we have grittier guys: Helm, Abdelkader, Miller, Mursak, Emmerton. What does he bring anymore guys? Scoring? Nyquist. Enough said. He needs to go, he's bringing the team down. Taking ice time from better players like Nyquist, and what will happen when Tatar is ready next season?

Helm has an MCL sprain, he'll be back early 1st round probably. Eaves is a long shot, but hopeful thinking... a RH shot would be nice. Mursak still overrides Cleary in my book. His speed and forechecking would be useful.

Nyquist, Helm, Eaves or Mursak > Cleary & Emmerton. Smith > Ericsson. Those should be the line changes, Nyquist should be with Dats and Bert. However, the Wings are too loyal and would rather lose than make necessary changes to shake up the team and let them realize that losing to the worst team in the league 5 games before the playoffs is unacceptable.

I hate Cleary, it's not a secret on LGW. I think he isn't worth his money and needs to be shipped out. However, it's more than hate now... all he does is skate slow and fire horrible blue line shots straight into the goalie without any screens. That or he's lazy and dumps the puck in straight to the other team instead of skating it in a bit more to make sure it goes to a teammate. It's like every single time he gets the puck I know NOTHING will come of it. Nyquist took his spot in my book, he actually gets me out of my chair a little bit, and he's flying around out there.

I figure that Helm & Eaves or (Mursak) should take Emmerton and Cleary's spots. Cleary has done NOTHING; Holmstrom at least causes havoc and has been heating up and has been a net presence. He draws penalties in the playoffs too. Cleary looked like a waste of F*ckin space out there tonight.

I'm seriously dying for the Wings to play the Blues in the playoffs (if the Blues don't choke in the 1st round). It's quite funny that St. Louis fans are still suffering from little brother complex and feel the need to post their teams accomplishments on our board. Yet, when we own them like we have in the past. It's never because we're a superior team. It's because the refs have it in for the Blues and favor the Wings. So please, once the Blues win at least a conference championship, or let alone a playoff round. Don't come in here and look for us to say "Hey! Good Job Blues!" You haven't done anything. Much like Vancouver last year, Blues fans seem to be anointing themselves as champions already. I saw this in an article written by a Blues writer and it made me laugh: "The Red Wings are starting to feel their age with the number of injuries on the roster (Hint: Lidstrom is old)." The thing is St. Louis fans, we've been better than you for 20 years for a reason. Not because our whole team is 20 year vets... It's because we draft better, we have better coaching, better trainers, better home ice advantage, better staff, and a winning tradition (unlike you). At first it had to do with his inability to stay on the ice. Now it seems as though his injuries have caught up to him (like I said they would sooner than later). If people by now haven't seen that the often injured, slower, and ineffective Cleary shouldn't be on this team. Then I don't know what to say. I've said this many times, that he is way overpaid for what he brings to the team now. He gets a lot of ice time and does nothing with it, give Helm that much and I wonder what would happen.

I've been flamed on this board the past 2 years for seeing how ineffective Cleary has been. Now others are starting to see it; I must say, I do feel a sense of sweet vindication. He needs to go after this season, for the salary he makes, we could get younger, faster, and more effective. He's a 4th line grinder at best now, but makes money of a 2nd liner. I believe his contract is up this year? Please dear god, Holland do NOT re-sign him!!!

I'm not mad we didn't get a big name player because I'd prefer Parise or Suter this summer. What I am mad about is Nashville finally getting balls and possibly persuading Suter to re-sign if they go far in the playoffs this year. If we could knock them out in the first round I'd be happy. (even if we didn't go further than the 2nd round)

I'm loving how everyone who supports Cleary on here cites, "well he's coming back from injury, and had his knees drained." DUH!!!!! That's his effing problem! He's always fricken hurt, and now he's even slower because of it. He's a slow skater, never comes up with the puck. If he ever gets a breakaway he has no finesse. Like last night, he had a clear break... instead he was way too slow and the dman from the red line caught up to him after he had already crossed the blue line. So what does Cleary do? He fires a poorly aimed slapshot right into the goalie. He shouldn't be making what he makes and be a 3/4th line guy, sorry, NO. Pull your heads out of your arses. When I see Cleary in a foot race I KNOW he's going to lose. His shot doesn't make up for his lack of speed ala Hudler.

Lines next season: Bertuzzi - Dats - Nyquist Franzen - Z - Fil Abdelkader- Helm - Miller Eaves - Mursak - Tatar Lidstrom - White Kronwall - Quincey Ericsson - Smith Howard McDonald Youth movement has to happen. Sorry Holmstrom, and Cleary. Stuart leaves for Cali.

I told you. Cleary is trashhhh... Tatar/ Nyqvist = Upgrade over Cleary. They're not going to develop anymore in the AHL they need to be brought up.

I know my hate for Dan Cleary seems to get under a lot of Cleary lover's skin here. To me he is worthless I've been saying it for a while. So at 49 games on the books, lets see what he has done. 10 goals 11 assists On a world class team. He's a horrible skater, injured often, and is completely worthless especially for how much he is making this year (2.8 million) Keep in mind Zetterberg's cap hit is 6 million. So I pose this question again, without Crimson trolling me. How many of you would like to see Cleary gone at the trade deadline this year? At this point I'd trade him for a washing machine just to get him off and Mursak on.

Well, with that reasoning. I think adding a savvy veteran who has never won a cup before (think Dallas Drake) would pay more dividends than having Cleary skate pedestrian in the post season

I don't even care if we receive nothing. I just want him off our team, I want his salary off the books... lets trade him for future consideration lol or a dollar. I think Mursak's speed would do more for our team right now than whatever the hell Cleary does out there. Usually it consists of losing the puck and skating slow.
