if you honestly think Cleary deserves/ or should be a top-6 forward... [facepalm]. Hes scored 1 goal all season woopty freaking do. 3 million a year is a million shy of a top-6 forward salary; I would in a heartbeat get rid of Cleary and Hudler if I could. This team needs an overhaul in the forward department... we have in my eyes 2 top-6 forwards Datsyuk and Franzen. Zetterberg has taken a step back big time if you look at tape from in in the 2008 season, and look at tape from last year's playoffs and this season. His play is night and day. I dont consider Cleary "versatile" he's slow, he finishes checks (good) and scores garbage goals ocassionally. Once again he's not worth his money... if thats versatile then so is 80% of the league. He sucks on the PP and PK and he also cant fight worth s***.

The argument I just presented is based on his production, or lack there of. He isn't worth $3 million dollars a year. Like I said, anyone would match his numbers with the same amount of ice time on this team. He isn't a top-6 forward in this league and shouldn't be paid like one. Yeah he does have injury problems, and you're only naming one injury on a long list of ailments. There are countless others that you are not naming. Basically using a straw man fallacy to prove your point that you're right. Would you like to wager that he scores 30+ goals like a top-6 forward should this year? I honestly think you're Dan Cleary incognito... I HATE Cleary. He's not a $3 Million dollar forward, sorry... NO. Worst move I've seen Holland do besides giving up Leino and keeping Maltby & Draper. Letting Quincey walk for Lilja too. Cleary is not one of our best players he averages what, 18 minutes roughly a game? Anyone who is worth their salt in this league that is put on this team and given that ice time would match his production or exceed it. He's injured EVERY year, and for 20+ games most of the time. I honestly cannot still figure out why you're such a Dan Cleary supporter; Cleary is ocasionally good because he is on the Wings (like anyone else would be). He was a reject on his former teams and considered a bust.

I've been saying for the past 3 years to get rid of Cleary, and how he isn't worth his contract $$. Often injured, under performing. Too many Cleary supporters here; I believe this will be the year that Cleary REALLY regresses. The most annoying part? He's making 3 million this year and has a NTC. I don't want to hear anyone else complain this season after you've all given me sh*t about hating him. Just for perspective these players are also making 3 million this year... Loui Eriksson Alexander Frolov Patric Hornqvist Olli Jokinen Rostislav Klesla Martin Hanzal Hell, I'd take any of them over Cleary. Lets face it our organization is OVERLY loyal; Draper stayed 2 years longer than he should of, Maltby as well. Let the flames begin, it's just the bitter truth. Enjoy Cleary's ineffectivness before he gets injured for another 30 games again this year guys!!

Yeah, actually we should Mr. Sarcasm. He misses at least 1/4th the season EVERY year. He's getting older, NOT a strong skater, and people praise him for his 'gritty play'. LMAO I've never seen him come off the boards with the puck. Hell, most of his goals come from infront of the net, or off tips. Tell me we can't find another player to do that?? He's grossly overpaid for how often he plays. I said last year... Backes made less money than Cleary. Get off his jockstrap.

Cleary is already getting an early hop on being injured for another season! I'm guessing another 20+ games this year as well. Worst move by Ken Holland ever, I've been saying it for the past two years. A lot of haters when I first started saying that Cleary isn't worth his money... I know hockey players get hurt obviously but he missed 1/4 of each season as of late, it'd be a lot nicer if his cap hit was 1/4 less... we could really use that extra $625,000 of cap room.

The past two seasons he has played under 65 games, so yeah you're right completely insane i say he players under 60!!! [insert sarcasm here] Signs of age let's see first, I said damaged goods not having to do with age itself, but having to do with wear on the body. Cleary's list of recent injurys -Groin tears -Torn menisci (not to mention surgery) -Jaw fractures -Seperated Shoulder That's just the last 2 seasons... He knows he hasn't earned his check, he knows he let his team down, he knows he didn't put not even 1 POINT up in the Phx series. So go ahead play clips of him on a hit where he left his feet (Which I didn't enjoy watching because you can clearly see him jump before contact.) and how he had a clinching goal. But with 15 minutes of Ice time each game there are WAY better players making the same amount of money who can get the job done as well, they may not get clinching goals those exact moments but they could probably keep us out of those moments as well. (David Backes comes to mind)

I expect maybe 50 games out of him lol. Everyone on this forum knows how I feel about Cleary and his Overpaid contract. I really don't expect even 60 games out of him, his body is giving up. Damaged goods, and those who post clips on youtube etc with his 'clutch' goals, truth is with another player making 3 million on our team getting as much ice time as Cleary does they're gonna get 'clutch' goals as well. I for one wish he was off the team, but that's just me. Let me just add that prone to injury has 2 meanings. 1. Susceptible or likely to get injured in any way. 2. Prone on a certain part of the body which continuously gets injured. When we say this we mean out of all the Red Wings on the team If I had to place money on who was going to be injured and miss most of the season I'm putting it on Cleary cause he always gets hurt, and Zetterberg because of his back.

Passion is contagious, a Veteran with a major will to win in one of his last seasons spreads to others, ever notice the last two cups we've won were when in 2002 we had Robataille, Hull, Hasek all nearing the end of their careers wanting to win so badly, and in 08 when we had Drake. Others would see them go out on shifts and match their intensity cause they knew how bad they wanted it, something this team lacked this year.

Looking at the roster all they will add is a 4th line grinder, presumably it will be eaves - hudler or flip - abdelkaeder or cleary ... definitely doesn't rival the penguins or blackhawks 3rd 3. 4th line is undersized and unless a bigger tougher acquisition is made, this holds true. 4. Howard would let in 7 goals one night in the playoffs and have a shut out the next night he is INCONSISTENT.. Regular season doesn't matter as much as playoffs we all know that 5. 1. We're another year older. 2. We have a horrible 3rd line, and the 3rd line is key deep in the playoffs. 3. 4th line doesn't bring enough energy. 4. Howard is inconsistent in goal. 5. Cleary will probably be injure 70 games (had to do it). 6. Hudler doesn't deserve to be on this team, while others take paycuts he comes back flaunting 10million untaxed to rub in Lidstroms, Zetterbergs faces.. 7. Too much dead weight still on the roster (Draper, maltby if signed, Meech) 8. Six D-men feels more like 4 1/2. Need a solid 6th, Kronner, Stu, and Raf need to play better. 9. Injuries, slumps remain unseen but will play a factor I see us narrowly taking 6-8th seed if we get lucky. Team needs to get bigger, faster younger, which they addressed in the draft. Filpulla needs to prove his worth, hudler needs to redeem himself Howard needs to be a stable wall, Rafalski needs to earn his check Cleary needs to geeeeeeeet out! (god I hate you so fricken much cleary, I hope you attract a David lee Oswald type)

Just sick of all the guys on the forum with a hard on for a slow role player who is rapidly declining (which fanboys try not to see). Not worth the money he's paid even at 100%. When Cleary signed the contract I thought it was horrible and the NTC made it worse. Way too much money was awarded to a 3rd line checker with some PK roles and some scoring ability... many others I'd like to have for that price, or get creative with a trade etc. It's too bad Cleary does have a NTC but throughout history players have been run out of town by fans it can be done, and if Cleary continues down his injured path and lackluster play it will be done. Clearys in his 30's you can't say he has anymore upside, and he is VERY injury prone... Wings need to get younger and faster plain and simple. We have enough veteran leadership, we have guys who can step in for Clearys PK roles, we have guys who will stand infront of the net, we have guys that can match Cleary's production if they had received his 2nd line minutes. So get off the Cleary train and stop making him out to be god and saying this is the year he'll get it on track, my prediction is he misses 20+ games.

Haven't seen Cleary stand around the net nearly as much as he used to before he took a puck to his eye/cheek. (Which was also a season or two ago which he was out of the wings lineup for a while) whoever says he only got injured this year and he usually plays most games was wrong.

1. Key word is 'when' which is never as of late, hence why he hasn't earned his contract. 2. Watch clips a few years back since the groin injury he is painfully slow. 3. ?? Sure he has heart, like when he stopped Prongers fists with his face. But... No I'd say Lilja is even a better fighter; never seen Cleary win a fight. 4. So can alot of other players for 2.5 mill.
