Is the announcer from Nebraska or something? He says Ericsson just like my dad - "Ereecsson."

    Televised Pre-Season Game?

Okay, guys, we're in luck! Or at least you're in luck if you get the NHL Network... They just announced their pre-season schedule. NHL Network will be broadcasting the following games: Fri, 9/24 Chicago Blackhawks vs. Detroit Red Wings 7:00 PM ET LIVE Sat, 9/25 Detroit Red Wings vs. Chicago Blackhawks 8:00 PM ET LIVE Fri, 10/1 Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings 1:00 AM ET (not live) Sat, 10/2 Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 7:00 PM ET LIVE Don't know what happened to the Wings/Rangers game that was supposed to be on this Sunday, but I like this plan better!

    Televised Pre-Season Game?

Just looked it up - Canada will get it because most Canadian cable systems get the Chicago-area feed with the CW network programming, but nobody in the U.S. (except for the Chicago area) will get it because we have the national station that doesn't include CW programming or any of their local stuff. Sucks to be us. Don't know why we still get their stupid baseball games if that's the case, but whatever. EDIT 9/20: There is now some confusion (mostly in my brain) about whether the Wings/Rangers game on the 26th will be televised on the NHL Network. The listings on the Internet and my TV say it will, but NHLN's online schedule that came out today says it won't (however, four other games will, so score!).

    Televised Pre-Season Game?

On NHL.com, it says that the Wings/Hawks game on the 25th is going to be on WGN. Now, I am an idiot and have no idea how this works - is the national WGN station the same as the local one? I mean, I've seen White Sox/Cubs games on the national channel while flipping through, so you'd think that would mean hockey would be on there, too. I guess I'll be able to tell you on Sunday (you can see a week's worth of programming on the on-screen guide, so I'll be able to look at next Saturday's stuff then).

Who do and did you hate more?

The Ducks are jerks; the Pens are jerks/whiners. That's two strikes against the Pens, so I guess I hate them more. Plus, the Ducks are only average jerks now with Getzlaf and Perry. The turd came out of the punchbowl when Pronger left...now all that's left is a bad taste.

Who will be the whipping boys for '10-'11?

Ericsson, Bertuzzi, Salei, and Howard. Salei and Howard we'll really have to wait and see, but if they don't do well, they'll be prime candidates for the post. I do have ideas about how I think the two of them will do, but I'm trying to stop them from becoming expectations because there's no telling how they'll develop until the season actually starts.

    #DanEllisProblems

Okay, I think the dude has an incredible case of foot-in-mouth disease, and I can't believe he thought people wouldn't take this the wrong way, but I do have to say he has a bit of a point, especially after reading a thing on KK that pointed out some realities about the situation. The thing that sticks out most in my mind from the article is that these guys are only playing until they're 40, and most of them didn't go to college, so it's not like they can actually SPEND $1 mil a year because they need to be saving for 35-50 years of retirement. Obviously Ellis couldn't explain this on Twitter, and I have no idea why he decided to try, but I do understand a little bit about where he's coming from even though he ticked me off supremely. I left out a ton of stuff from the article, so here's the link: http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/sh/comments/ellis_tweets_offered_glimpse_into_cba_battle/

    Stanley Cup Predictions

Wings vs...oh hell, the Caps, I guess. West: I think the Canucks and Kings look pretty good, but the Canucks are chokers and the Kings lack offense. If LA had signed Kovalchuk, I'd say there would be a darn good chance it'd be between us and them in the WCF, but they're still missing a piece or two of the puzzle, if you ask me. The Sharks...umm, well, they did get further last year than in the past, so maybe they're learning? I hope not, heh. I may just be a homer, but I think we've got a heck of a chance this year. East: Shoot, I don't know. What I want to see is the Caps break out and git-r-done this year, but who knows if it'll happen. The Pens look decent, and I may be nuts, but I think the Bruins look good. Yeah, they royally screwed up last year, but (hopefully!) that's a once-in-a-lifetime deal, and they still have most of the same guys this year, right? It could happen! I agree with somebody above that goaltending is going to bury the Flyers. Tampa Bay is my dark horse.

    Battle of the Blades

Dude, I would so watch this if I lived in Canada; I'm not even ashamed. Too bad they only teach the guys how to figure skate, though (at least I assume that's what they're doing); it'd be better if they taught the girls how to play hockey, too. Or at least how to properly defend one's honor on ice: "Now grab that b*tch's sweater and pull it over her ugly head so she can't slap you in the face!" As noted, Tonya Harding would totally be into it.

    beers!

Whoa, that is an awesome website - thanks! I have to be honest, I don't get down to Imperial Beach that much, but I'm sure I'll find somewhere that has it from that list, so that's still majorly helpful. Just when Facebook has you convinced that the Internet has gone down the tubes, somebody comes up with something great like this - THIS is what they invented technology for!

    Quebec City getting new arena

I don't see how it benefits a place like Québec City to go into debt to build a new arena when they've already got one. Yeah, it's old, but they could update it like the Oilers have (as someone mentioned in the comments). It's not like they need to try extra hard to lure the people there into going to games with the bait of a state-of-the-art facility; I'd imagine that the rabid, hockey-starved fanbase would show up come hell or high water at this point. And hey, if they really want a new one, why not just hang out at the old one for a few years, keep costs down, and then build a new one with money in hand? And why the heck does the League care either way as long as it meets minimal standards? Do they profit from this in some way I don't understand? And why is QC so eager to do this when Bettman has been yanking around Winnipeg, who has already built a new, NHL-spec arena, for a while now? As for an actual opinion, I'd love to see QC and Winnipeg both get new teams, especially since Winny has already built an arena and QC is going to; I'd hate to see them go through all the trouble and then have Bettman thumb his nose at them. Winnipeg Coyotes and Québec City Thrashers FTW!

    Howard Worthy of Mcfarlane Figure?

I give this an f-yeah, but I also think Franzen at the very least needs one too. However, I just want to know if Howard's glove is held out in such a way that the Crosby action figure's face is easily insertable into it.

    Post Everytime You Look

I, too, just wanted to see what everybody was talking about, so here's my post. Only 2 1/2 weeks until hockey time! Can't wait to see how our new guys gel with the team, and how our sorta new guys do (go Abby, it's your birthday!). Drop the dern puck already; skating around in circles at the local rink is not helping anymore - I need the real deal!

    This or That

Well, considering I just spent a boatload on tickets for the Wings/Pens game with money I could use for a host of other things...Option B, please! Times (/Times New Roman...is there a difference?) or Arial

    beers!

Just tried Jolly Pumpkin for the first time a week or so ago! Let's see...I had the Oro de Calabaza. Goooood stuff!! A little sweet but not too sweet, and just generally pleasant and drinkable. I wish I could be more specific, but I'm a horrible reviewer. Found out about it by looking at Hamilton's (place here in San Diego - they've got a million beers, and they might even have hockey...gotta wait and see when the season starts; if so, I have a new home) beer list for something from MI (I like supporting your economy) and found that. So glad I did! I think it's pretty much my new beer of choice. Please tell me they have it at BevMo...

The NHL fan base is growing...

I'll readily admit I'm not the most observant person in the universe, but I don't notice much of a puck bunny element when I go to games. Of course, most of the games I go to are Wings @ Ducks, so on the Wings side you get the diehard fans who have moved from MI but keep the faith no matter what, or the ones like me who are random Southern Californians who have a strange yet undying loyalty to a team a thousand miles away that you have to pay extra to see on TV and deal with obnoxious fans of the other team but still can't get enough of them anyway. Then on the Ducks side...well, I don't know who exactly likes the Ducks, but I don't think they have too many casual fans...it's either at the center of your radar or it's not there at all; you're not going to get a bunch of girls in stilettos wandering into a game on a whim. And there's no Crosby or...I don't know, who does everybody go nuts over in Chicago? Tell me it isn't Kane! Anyway, there's nobody on the Ducks who's been marketed up the wazoo and inspires Crosby-like levels of mania in teenage girls, so they kind of stay away. I mean, this is Hollywoodland - if you haven't heard about it on TV, it doesn't exist!
