Dan Cleary openly admits to being at 50%
MulesWillFly93 replied to NBCnothingbutcrosby's topic in General
This is dumb. I appreciate Cleary's attitude, but this is the playoffs we're talking about - we need the best men for the job, and that's that. I don't think it would affect Cleary's confidence if they sat him. It's no knock on his playing abilities when he's healthy - he's just injured and needs to heal. I get that the team is more used to playing with Cleary on it, and it's an advantage to know your teammates' style and have some chemistry going into these important games, but considering how his line has played this year, it seems like it'd be more of an advantage at this point to bring someone in like Conner who has NHL experience and is 100% healthy. -
I'm going to do a necklace with a red bead for a win and white for a loss. I did it the last two years - it was looking really good after we swept the Coyotes last year!

#7 Washington Capitals vs. #2 Boston Bruins
MulesWillFly93 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Bruins in 4. Ok, fine, I don't think that's actually realistic, but I guess I'm getting a little tired of saying, "THIS is the YEAR! Caps will take the East for SURE!" and then they go and cough up a lung in the playoffs. So, to be fair, Bruins in 5. There. -
Awwwesome! Congrats to Steven - I'm glad the kids can still give the big '80s guys at least a decent run for their money, even with all the changes in the NHL.

#6 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #3 Phoenix Coyotes
MulesWillFly93 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Dern, I was hoping Chicago would draw SJ, oh well. I'm going to go with Blackhawks in 7. Please prove me wrong, Yotes. -
I think Homer's earned the right to decide what he wants to do. Also, I think Homer should be the least of our worries - I'm way more frazzled with certain players in theirs 20s and early 30s who aren't contributing up to their level than I am with Homer. Homer may not be the player he used to be, but he still works his butt off while others take a free ride, which puts even more pressure on him. When your one still-functional sentimental favorite has a bad night, it shouldn't completely unravel the whole team. There should be other players there to step in and pick up the slack, but instead certain guys don't seem to be willing to put in the effort, and that's their problem, not Homer's. I can't read minds, but if I had to guess, I'd say that's where everybody's negativity is coming from on this issue. The whole team's got a problem, and it's unfairly putting the spotlight on Homer, in my opinion.

GUESS WHAT?! I got a fevah! And the only prescription is MORE NYQUIST!! Ahem, anyway, regular season games don't get much more nitty-gritty than this. Whaddya say we help ourselves toward a little home ice advantage, and give our potential first-round matchup something to think about over the next week or so.

Wasn't sure if I should vote for Dats or Howie, but as someone on Twitter pointed out, it is NHL 13, after all, so I guess I'm voting for #13!

The Ducks have been at the mercy of the refs lately. First they get a perfectly good goal called back against Boston (I don't know why they keeping calling the call "controversial" - it SUCKED), and now they get credited for a goal that never went in the net! Why do we even HAVE video replay? It's a waste of time/money if all the refs are blind! I did have a moment of schadenfreude since it was against the Sharks, but ugh, I'm just tired of these blown calls.

Zactly. I don't know what's wrong with Cleary - he goes from a near-record season shortened by injury to a complete bust - but he's been like this the whole season. That's just too much of a slump for a 3rd line guy. I don't think we owe him anything as far as loyalty goes, so I think it's time to cut ties. I hate to say it because I really thought he had something going last year that would carry over, but something's just not the same with him, and it's not getting any better. If he could turn it around, that'd be great, but I don't see that happening. If the rest of our team was really gelling, I might just give him another season to get it together, but we obviously need to make a few changes, and he's Exhibit 1A of that, unfortunately. He's brought absolutely nothing to the team this year.

I KNEW something was up with him - glad he's feeling better and doing awesomely! Can't wait for the playoffs!

Happy birthday, Jimmy! Does he have the most perfect day for a birthday or what?

It'd definitely be nice if we ended up playing a team like Dallas in the 1st round, but the points are so close that the best I can really hope for is home ice advantage and less travel. If we fell back to 6th, we could just as easily be playing the Sharks in the 1st round, which wouldn't be fun. I just hope luck is on our side and we can get SOME sort of advantage going into the playoffs.

"Lemme hear ya!" In the middle of the Canadian National Anthem? Really? I mean, the style and sloooow moootion isn't exactly great, but that really ended it right there.

Which team would piss you off the most if they won the cup?
MulesWillFly93 replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
The Canucks or Penguins. Put one in for the Blues, too - their fans are already cocky, and it isn't even the playoffs yet! If I thought the Sharks or Hawks had a chance, I'd say them, too, but I don't see that happening. -
Of course he didn't MEAN it that way - but how am I not supposed to get that out of it? Damn right it was a complete embarrassment, and there was half an arena full of Wings fans who paid lots of money to come out and see some good hockey there who saw every single second of that disaster. EVERYONE'S WATCHING, Babs. That's what happens when you're the most popular hockey team in the U.S. We're watching, and while we don't expect you to win every game, we do expect to see games played with the pride of a team with that many fans and that many Cups.
-
I'll be there tonight, so get me a win, Wings - I'm selfish like that!

I'm not panicking. A) It's March, not exactly everyone's favorite time of the year, and B) we've got injuries. I can't say I'm not disappointed...I feel like could play with at least a little more vim and vigor - maybe it wouldn't have won us the last 2 games, but there's definitely a little more effort to be had there. I do feel like we're still in a much better position going into the playoffs this year than we have been the last two years, and once we get our injured guys back and get all excited about the playoffs, I think we'll be in a good spot. I don't know if we can go all the way, but I have a way better feeling about it this year than the last couple of years.
-
Excellent! Didn't they say during the game yesterday that Dats said he might be back in time for the West Coast road trip? Maybe I just got excited and made stuff up, but that's what I thought I heard.
-
Ha, I knew it! I saw the words "idiot" and "Denver" and immediately thought, "Dater!" Anyway, I'll be moving along...I don't waste time with Dater posts. No offense to the OP - it's pretty mind-blowing the first time you come across his work, isn't it?
-
I am disappoint, but it's just one game. I just hope Jimmy's okay.

San Jose in the West, Pittsburgh in the East. Canucks, Blues, and Preds will be challenging, but the San Jose Voodoo Hex is more cause for concern than anything else. We NEEEEED to improve the PP. Fewer breakaway-causing turnovers would be nice, too, but since a lot of those come on the PP, fixing the PP will fix some of that, too. Hopefully Howard will be a baws in the playoffs, and Franzen will probably wake up. I predict that Dats will come back nice and rested and ready to kick butt and take names, too. I hope Fil keeps the pedal to the metal.

If we don't make it to the SCF and the Rangers do, I'm totally rooting for them. I didn't use to like them, but I like this new crop of guys they've got. Lots of hard work and heart...I like that combo. I do believe I'll be watching the Rangers-Bruins game Sunday, too - I really hope these two teams are in the ECF!
