Just another pointless post in a pointless thread, if you ask me. How exactly does the opinion of some idiot at HockeyBuzz of all places have any importance whatsoever? I realize it's the off-season and that we're not going to get any interesting news for at least a few more weeks, but why not post something from a blog that isn't a complete joke?

The Hockey News has some bold predictions...they rank us 5th in the West, and to add insult to injury, it's behind the Kings, who are behind the Hawks. In fact, they have the Hawks playing in the SCF against (wait for it) the Caps. And the Caps are going to win. I'm trying so hard not to laugh right now.

Anaheim's not bad. Honda Center's a nice place, and the people aren't too rowdy. Lots of Wings fans! In fact, last time I went, we beat the Ducks 4-0, and it was pretty much all Wings fans by the end...you would've thought it was a home game. It's less fun when we lose, but nobody's been overly unsporting about it (only a little, hehe). It's a big enough rivalry that it makes games against them more fun than, say, playing Florida or something, but it's not so much of a hate-fest that we're all trying to shank each other in the stands. The cheap seats definitely aren't as good as the ones at JLA because of the suite situation and all, but since I only go once or twice a year, I usually get lower bowl ones anyway. This year I think I'm going to try out Staples Center. I went there for the Draft last year - that was the first time I'd ever been (Lakers who?). It's definitely a nice facility...no complaints there! I didn't really sit in the stands that much, so I don't have the full scoop on that yet. I've liked all the Kings fans I've met so far, so I hope it'll be a friendly enough crowd. (Side note: I love how on the Wikipedia page there's a caption below a picture of it that reads, "Staples Center before a Clippers game," and the stands are completely empty in the pic...kinda says it all.)

I picked Dats. I hate even saying that, because it sounds like a horrible insult to Zetterberg, but honestly, I'd pick Dats over anybody in the whole league. Just a little biased here.

I live in San Diego, and I just went to Detroit in March! Wish I could help you with hotels, but I stayed in Allen Park, which is 15 min. away from JLA, so that's not what you're looking for. As for hockey stuff to do, I think everybody just about covered it. I guess there's the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, but I didn't go, so I don't know what it's like. The one non-hockey thing I would definitely not miss is the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn...I guess you could say it's mostly dedicated to the inventions that enabled history to be made in the U.S. And come on, they have one of the original Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles - how cool is that? Don't know how much time you have, but the other thing I liked was just driving through the Indian Village neighborhood, which is close to downtown. There are a lot of amazing old houses there, some in better condition than others, with all kinds of irreplaceable little details; it's just something unique that you don't get to see out here. Also in the Totally Random category is Pewabic Pottery downtown, if you're into that kind of thing at all. They've been around since the early 1900s, and it's kinda cool because you can go back into their workshop and see how they make everything (it's nice to go stand by the kiln if you're freezing your ass off, too). Ooh, and don't forget to go to a coney dog restaurant! I recommend Lafayette, but ya gotta go to American next door, too, and decide for yourself which one you like. Have fun! I had a blast! People give me the craziest looks when I tell them I went to Detroit on vacation, but they don't know what they're missing.

- Datsyuk scores 50 goals. Well, actually, I don't think that's all so bold...I'm feeling positive, what can I say? - Jimmy F-ing Howard whoops ass and takes names and chews bubblegum (however that line goes). This is actually a little too bold for me; while I fully expect him to whoop ass and take names, it's unsafe to chew bubblegum at the same time as either activity, so I hope he just accomplishes the first two items on the list. - Ericsson, Filppula, and Hudler do so awesomely that each player has his own cheering section at JLA. (Of course, Hudler already has his own "booster club," but that's for another discussion.) - I was going to say something about injuries, but I think I'll just shut my trap on this one. - Stevie comes back...I'm going to be saying this every year until hockey doesn't exist anymore. And probably after that. If anybody could lead a post-apocalypse pro-hockey league, it'd be Stevie.

1) Who is your favorite Detroit Red Wing player overall to wear the Red Wings Logo? Steve Yzerman (and Pavel Datsyuk currently) 2) Who was your favorite Detroit Red Wing player that joined the red wings? (Non drafted by Wings, could be threw Trade / FA / Waiver etc...) Brendan Shanahan 3) Which current player would you dream of them joining the Wings? Shea Weber, Tim Thomas (Weber would be the more logical choice, but I love me some Timmeh) 4) Which are the players that really "hurt / bugged" you when they left the Red Wings to join another team? Fedorov was tackier, but I miss Shanny the most 5) Is there a player that you never wanted him on the team ... but eventually joined the team? Bert! And now look at him, he's in my avatar!

It's all right...I wonder if it wouldn't look better if it said "Winnipeg Jets" on the blue part of the circle. Hmm. I actually really like the one with the crossed hockey sticks in it, myself (I guess that's going to be the shoulder patch?). evilmrt's version of the main one is pretty badass, though, I have to admit.

Right?! My exact thoughts earlier today were 1) I can't believe he's retiring, and 2) I can't believe he's OLD enough TO retire...judging by his looks, surely he's got another 10 years in him! I will miss that guy immensely. I know I've criticized him in the past, but you know I appreciate every achievement he's helped us reach. Been moody and listening to Skynyrd's Tuesday's Gone and Freebird (my official "now it's time to say goodbye" songs, for some reason) all day yesterday and today. Fly on, Freebird.

More Franzen showing up/not being injured aka less of whatever his problem was. More Filppula stepping up (hard to say this with a straight face, but I keep hoping). I feel if these two guys could just get going, this would help us exponentially (or a lot, anyway). MOAR DATSYUK!!!! 'Nuff said. Ditto, Helm. More Howard playoffs hockey...but in the regular season, too. More drinking champagne out of the same cup.

This is why Commodore was the best signing ever...
MulesWillFly93 replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
A little late, here, but...I like A2Y. They're juvenile as all get-out, and they admit it. Leads to some good times. I don't particularly agree with the Chief this time, and I think the amount of drama this has led to between A2Y and the Puck Daddy people is astounding, but I'm not going to hate on the Chief just because he disagrees with me over a frickin' jersey number. Honestly, I don't care THAT MUCH. If Commodore wants to wear 64, cool, I think it's amusing and does not make the Wings organization look any less dignified as a result, but if he doesn't want to wear it, I'm okay with that, too. I just don't understand why this has turned into a Matter of National Importance, other than because we're all bored out of our minds without hockey on. -
Gee, what a hard choice; I just don't know who to pick! ...Yeah, it's all Dats. I like Ovechkin, but Datsyuk just plain owns - it's that simple. I could give technical details, but is it really necessary?
-
Same here. I don't know much about Conner, but if he's as speedy as everybody says, that would be fun to see! Would also like to say that if the Isles claim either off waivers, you will be able to hear me scream all the way over on Long Island.

Oh, okay, so they're mostly chewing out Mickey and Murph...I can see that. I was going to say, "Gosh, I can see how Mickey might not be a favorite with non-fans, but how can you badmouth Ken?" Answer: they didn't. Murph makes you go "huh?" at first, but once you figure out he's plastered, it's a friggin' ball listening to him. Mickey's just a really big personality...you either like him or you don't, I guess. I can't believe they would give any broadcast including Eddie Olczyk more than one star...I'll take Mickey's tall tales over Olczyk's herp de derp any day. I do agree that the Kings announcers are great and that the Ducks guys are infuriating, though.

I won't say I'm disappointed until we're absolutely sure Kenny's done. If this is it, then yeah, I'll be let down, but I don't think he's done yet. I'm not singing, so it must not be over!

You know why I don't think this will work? Well, there are a number of reasons, but one nobody's mentioned yet is: Phoenix knows Hudler a little too well from the playoffs. I can see where struggling EC teams that we only play once a year might be interested in picking a Wing, any Wing, but I'm thinking the Coyotes know better than that, considering how often we played them this year.

Leino to the Wings. Hudler and Ericsson for Pronger.

I'm reading Persuasion by Jane Austen. Read it for a college class, liked it so much that I'm actually reading it again for fun. I love Pride and Prejudice, and I think it's kind of THE Jane Austen novel, but from a less objective perspective, I think I might actually like this one more. I like the whole second chance angle in this one.

I've never understood the pants-hanging-down thing. It looks beyond ridiculous. I thought so at age 14, and I still think so now at 26. I was hoping the trend would die out before I hit 26, but no luck there. Now there are hipsters with skinny jeans...still looks kind of silly, but at least now I can check out the shape of a guy's butt without actually seeing it hanging out in the air. Ahem, anyway...so yeah, I don't think it's a generation gap thing - it's a brain gap thing.

Good grief, getting a little antsy, are we? It's not even July, and we're already to the point of considering Komisarek? Man, somebody hide the Kool-aid...

The three stars thing comes from their state flag: Don't really understand the guitar pick outer part, but yeah... Edit: Gah, FireCaptain beat me to it. I can't read.

Well done, Timmy! Scratch that - awesomely done! I love a comeback story and I love a kick-some-ass story, so to have the two combined is pretty sweet, and it couldn't happen to a cooler guy. Congrats on the Cup and the Conn Smythe - enjoy!
