NHL local ratings for game 1-Nashiville tied for 7th
MulesWillFly93 replied to Manoir's topic in General
Yayyy San Diego for coming in 13th! No, seriously, we never get excited about anything around here, so that's pretty good for us. We did better than a certain city east of us which has a hockey team and a higher population, too, ahem. (Gosh darn it, can't we even get a minor league team up in here?!) -
When they do decide to do it, I hope they make a good compromise between putting the boxes where they need to be and preserving the current setup of the seats (because that part is great). Totally agree with needing a wider concourse...that's one nice thing about Honda Center; you can walk around without feeling like a sardine. Of course, it's probably partially because there are less people at their games, hyuck, but even when us Wings fans pile in, there's still enough room. Bathrooms - definitely a key issue, too. Oh, also - HANDRAILS in the upper bowl, please...I'd rather they didn't wait for the new arena to fix that one. I must be nuts, but I didn't mind the parking that much. Maybe it's because I go through the world's biggest parking nightmare 5 days a week, so this seems tame by comparison...I don't know. What could flow a little better to me is foot traffic through the tunnel - if they do something similar to that again, I wouldn't mind if it was a little bigger (but it's still better than trying to cross the street at Ponda...sure, they have traffic direction, but do you think OC drivers care about anyone else?). Definitely don't make parking any harder than it is, though. That would be the main thing I would ask for, ease of access and good traffic flow.

You know, looking at it from the angle of what would take the least travel time and preserve the current set-up most closely, the thing that makes the most sense to me would be to move Nashville to the Southeast (and have Minnesota take its spot in Central so Winnipeg can fit into the Northwest). Everybody's been talking about Detroit and Columbus because they're in the Eastern Time Zone, but it'd be more of a pain in the butt to have to realign every single division in the East to let in Detroit/Columbus somewhere in the Northeast/Atlantic than just to tell Nashville, "So you're an hour off - deal with it." I know most of us want the Wings to go to the East, but if I had to guess what was on the League's mind, I'd bet on moving Nashville.

Schweet!! I agree with everybody - he's got the right personality for the job. He's open, seems fair, and has a good relationship with the players. I definitely like the committee idea - that probably should have been done a long time ago. Good luck, Shanny...I gotta say, that's a hard job. Like being the school principal - nobody really wants to see you.

I think the author was talking about when they used them as throwback jerseys for that one game back in October. My least favorite is the Bruins one. It's probably not THE worst, but just knowing how cool their normal ones are and trying to ponder why anyone would mess with that makes it all the worse. Nashville's is pretty bad, too...anyone care for some Grey Poupon? That Ducks one...it's questionable just sitting there by itself, but what really makes it bad is seeing it on a player (like on the first page of the article). It goes from, "Ok, stupid cartoon drawing" to "What the EFF is THAT all over the front of your jersey?!"

^ That's what I think, too. He knows he's got more hockey in him, and now that we've lost our #2 guy and are facing a lot of changes next season, I bet he's going to come back to provide some stability and act as a mentor to the new guys.

I voted for McCrimmon, Hudler, Ericsson, and Salei. Filppula I could take or leave, too, but if he stays, I won't be ticked. I'm not over the moon about MacDonald, but he's got the right price tag on him, so if they want to keep him and use the money saved to bone up on defense instead, that's fine with me. I didn't vote for anybody who's possibly just going to retire anyway, so I left out Modano, Ozzie, and Draper. Oz and Drapes can stay if they want, even if they shouldn't.

Hahahaha, I know what they're getting at - that they would've wanted a Battle of PA match-up if both teams hadn't already had turns - but the funny part is that it sounds like something the NHL would do despite their past appearances. Blah. I care about this one even less than last year's. And what the heck is the point of putting in the Rangers if you're not going to have it at Yankee Stadium? That's pretty much the ONLY reason to have the Rangers in a WC at all - the location! Of course, it's not the same ol' Yankee Stadium anyway, but still, at least you've got a semblance of tradition there. Why not save them until you can get the date you want at the place you want? It's not like they're having some kind of surge in popularity that makes it necessary for them to be in it this year.

I like both EC teams, but Tampa more, obviously, because of Stevie and certain class-act players there. So whoever wins the ECF is who I'll cheer for in the Finals, but I'd rather it was Tampa. Boston's okay, but I can actually sort of get on board with TB a little more. In the West, I'd like to see Vancouver make it to the Finals over the Sharks, but I won't be cheering, or anything resembling that, for either one. At least there's somebody halfway acceptable to lean toward this year. Chicago and Philly...ugh, it was the ol' "hemorrhoids or herpes" question.

All right, I think I can finally pull myself out of my funk long enough to genuinely say that it's been a great season, and I appreciate my boys doing what they do. I had the opportunity to thank Jimmy Howard face-to-face (brag, brag) for a great season last year, and if I meant it then, which I did, then I sure as hell mean it this year. I think we did the best thing you can do other than winning the Cup, and that's to show heart. One part of me wants to say, "Who the f cares about consolations right now?" but knowing that my team gives all they can because they want to and will continue to do so in the coming years keeps me going, even when I don't really want to be comforted. Thanks, guys.

Huh, I thought he made some pretty fantastic saves moving laterally tonight. Granted, they were all right after I thought he went wayyy too far to one side of the net when you could tell the puck was going to come back around the other way, but somehow he managed to get to the other side in time. Not trying to be an ass, just looking for further explanation.

Get well soon, guys. That...really sucks.

Trade Hudler. Kick Ericsson down the street. Those would be the main two. Other than that, I feel like we could do better than Salei and Filppula. I really want to keep Filppula, but he did exactly what he always does: wakes up for a couple of games and then goes back to sleep. We just don't get to see the sleep part this time. Draper and Osgood have earned the right to do whatever the F they want. As much as I think it's time for Ozzie to retire (and I really hate saying that), Detroit's known for its loyalty, and this is the part where he gets that gift and makes everybody else glad that they're playing for the Wings, too. Pretty sure Mo's done, so I doubt we have to worry about that. Pretty sure Lids isn't done...or at least I want to believe that, so I'm not going to think about it at any rate. I WISH we could get rid of Rafalski...I'm not completely unhappy with him on the whole, but I AM unhappy with his play for the amount of money we pay him. I don't know who to fill in...gotta think about that for a while. Bringing up Mursak would probably be a good start. I'd definitely like to add some size. EDIT: Wait, I meant physicality. We don't need any more "Big Rigs"; we need some tough suckers.
-
If they resign him...fark. I understand loyalty to Ozzie, Drapes, etc., and not only do I understand, but I appreciate it. Ericsson, however...no. You are SO replaceable right now, buddy.
-
Pretty much says it all. I voted I don't care. If I had to pick, I guess I'd pick Vancouver...at least Bieksa has some self-respect out of the 40+ players involved. Otherwise, Thornton and Kesler can go give themselves upper body injuries from knocking heads as they try to make out with their eyes closed.
-
Hahaha, awwwwesome...I actually snickered a little. I love you, Ericsson....when you're 20 miles away from an ice rink.
-
Howie. Thank you. You were the heart and soul of the team on a team full of heart and soul, so that's saying something. You kept us in it. Cheers. Would just like to reiterate what Ozzie30 (aka Howie 35) said: Ericsson, GTFO.

...Except in this case, acting like your legs got chopped off and then disappearing just makes you look like a d-bag. -
Nice lookin' bracelets, everybody! I'm going to wait until tonight to post mine...I stopped posting and we started winning, so I can't change now!

Who's ready? Not me!! Well, I'm more ready than I was for the last game, actually. I watched that game stone cold sober, and my GOD it was brutal. (I mean, I usually watch them that way, but they're usually not that mind-warping.) This time I'm going to have a little help from my buddies Zywiec and Hornitos. I don't know what to expect from tonight. I don't have a bad feeling about it, and I don't have a good feeling about it. I just have this vacuum in the pit of my stomach that's sucking out my life force. And you'd think that'd mean I had negative feelings about the game, but nope, I feel a strange sense of calm when I know we're marching toward doom; it's that good ol' fear of the unknown that makes my liver quiver.
-
Well, that makes a ton of sense. Sounds just like the NHL. I mean, Dallas is screwed either way - they have to fly halfway across the country no matter what division they're in. But why make Winnipeg fly halfway across the continent east to west AND completely across the U.S. north to south? Why can't Minnesota go to the Central Division and have Winnipeg take their place in the Northwest? Argh, whatever. Glad to see Peg getting a team back. I feel bad for everybody who did actually watch Thrashers hockey, but come on, give those poor people up there something to DO in winter, for the love of God! Also, if the Wings move east, I hope I will, too. I don't want to be stuck here where they may or may not play the Ducks once a year.<br>

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I would try the San Francisco Fish Co. at the Ferry Building. I'm not from San Fran, but I've been to the Ferry Building before, so I knew they had seafood, and after looking at SFFC's site, I think that would be your best shot, and here's why: Ding ding!! I don't know if it's whole or not, but that sounds promising to me.

From Red Wings Front comes this quote from our one and only Homer (we have lots of homers, but only one Homer): That's right, motherf***ers, and these daisies are ready to KILL!!! -
Thornton says: In-teg-grit-tee?
