GDT ECQF Game 7 GDT : at Lightning 2, Red Wings 0 (Tampa wins series, 4-3)

This team is just so disapointing on the ice. What a major disappointment they've been offensively in this game. They don't even deserve to score. -

Really lazy uninspired effort again tonight offensively. Too much passing, trying to be too cute. Shooting right into defenders, shooting low percentage shots. Beating themselves. -
Yes. It is ok to deliberately slash a players wrist. It doesn't lead to a concussion. Kronwalls hit... to me.. first point of contact is the shoulder/neck area. I won't say head, but you know with the focus in sports, at all levels to eliminate concussions, any sort of high hit like that is going to get the attention. A slash to the wrist is irrelevant to the NHL when compared to a hit that could possibly result in a concussion. It didn't in this case apparently, but I fully expect some sort of release from the NHL saying they felt it was a high hit. Targeted or not, wont matter. They'll consider it reckless because it landed "high" on the body. I don't agree with it, but it's how they've called them before. If theyre calling a hearing about it, I'd be prepared for a suspension if I'm the Wings. It sucks.

Agreed on all accounts. We dont really have any D-men in the system either. Sure, there's Ouellette, and Marchenko. Lets face it though, neither are a top 4 guy probably. That doesnt leave alot of hope. If I'm Babcock, that's my play to the Wings FO... you want me back, you give me D-men. Give me speed and grit guys. Skill guys like Dats and Z are alright, but lets face it, it's time to strongly considering moving on, theyre well out of their prime, and shadows of their former selves, it really hurts to say that. You get the beauty play still every now and then, but they dont take over and dominate games anymore. It happens to all the great ones unfortunately. Also unfortuantely... we haven't been able to replace them yet. They still have roles, but we need the replacements. Tatar is showing promise. So did Nyquist, but he's fallen off as of late. I know we like to think, we're the Red Wings, we have such a great roster. Outside of a few guys, it's not that special. It's the system that gets us to where we are, it's the talent and desire, and grit that wins in the playoffs, not necessarily the fancy schmancy skill guys. -

Agreed. We're gettin beat by speed and grit. Consistently. We lack that. Consistently. We have the odd guy, but for the most part its alot of passing and waiting to try and create a sexy opportunity, rather than just outmanning the other team and creating your own opportunities. -

Well, in his defense, it's not his roster. Ken Holland is buying the groceries. There's not much there to work with, especially on the back end. -

If they don't make it out of this series, I'd be surprised to see him back next year. I want him back. I just dont think it's going to happen if we havent given him a new deal yet, followed by a first round exit. I'd be surprised. Problem is, who do you replace the best coach in hockey with? You better have a plan, and a damn good one at that. -

The fact the officials aren't going to call anything, with all the blatant hooking, interference, and holding Tampa is doing right now, especially out front of the net. It's ridiculous. This is what I HATE about playoff hockey. They let you get away with anything, and everything when the games, and series' are on the line. Call it consistently, like you call it all year. If you want to call it like this all year, that's fine by me. Just be consistent. -

Wings should be worried. That arm from Kronner was up near the head. Basically because Kucherov lowered his head as he started to head up ice... I could see Tampa crying enough about it to get the NHL to have a really good look at it. -

cbc/sportsnet said it was a skate issue. they let him out of the box, he showed the ref and equipment manager, they let ferraro serve the penalty when Glendenning tried to skate on it and showed the refs. That's what they said/showed. -

What a great consolation prize... Way.. way more than he's worth. -
Meh... I'm not interested in keeping a playoff streak alive when we get beat out in the first or second round every year. I am however interested in keeping a playoff streak alive when we're actually Stanley Cup contenders. Hell... look at Pittsburgh firing their GM and Coach. Not saying that's what I want to do... but at some point you have to demand better.

Screwing himself. Probably in more ways than one. I can't see how much longer Ilitch is going to be willing to watch us sit idle during free agency when we have glaring holes on the back end.

GDT ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)
brandon27 replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
I can't believe some people are crying to fire Babcock... the best coach in hockey. Unreal. Seriously people, take off the homer glasses here, think clearly and realistically. This team that we have, has no chance against Boston. Not because of coaching, because of talent. Boston is stronger, bigger, more talented in every area. From net, to defensemen, to their forwards. Add in the fact that Datsyuk clearly is struggling with his injury still, and Zetterberg as well, then combine the fact that the rest of the roster is full of guys who played in the AHL last year, and you should easily be able to see what the problem is here. It's not the coach. It's an inexperienced roster, filled with injuries up against the team that is probably going to win the cup. Lets be serious here rather than trying to point the blame at Babcock, or even Holland for that matter... If it wasnt for all these kids currently playing on the Wings that were drafted... we wouldn't even be in the damn playoffs today. The fact that we even are is a miracle on its own the way this season went, without a guy like Babcock behind the bench steering those kids adn getting the best out of them down the stretch, you could shoot a cannon through this forum right now it would be so empty.
