    Gustav Nyquist

Yeah, he looked good today. Actually, I think of him as more of a cross between Z and Fil than a mini Pavel. That said, I hope today wasn't indicative of his finishing abilities. IMO that's the area he seems more like a Filppula-caliber player. I haven't really seen him at Maine though; maybe he was just nervous or something today and couldn't bury his chances?

    Datsyuk or Zetterberg

I can't vote either. I love them both too much. If it was the summer two years ago, everyone would be saying Zetterberg. But Datsyuk's gotten even better those seasons, whereas Z's regular season play has certainly declined. Though Hank's been note quite as good in the playoffs as he was in '08 and '09, I still think he's been very, very good in the postseason. It just seems he's slowed down and has to rely more on his smarts and instincts than his skating or movement. He was never the best skater, but he definitely doesn't have the same jump as before. When the team needs him most though (e.g., playoffs or when Pavel's injured), Zetterberg doesn't let us down. And I can't say anything about Datsyuk that hasn't been said before. Besides, they're the Euro Twins. They're not gonna be separated. It's just wrong to pick between the two.

Link A very solid signing I think. Regardless, I don't see the Flames making the playoffs.

Has Bobby Orr talked about Lidstrom?

I think this is because Orr has generally stayed under the radar after retiring. That's why you don't hear him talking much at all. Some other quotes from the aforementioned ESPN article: And probably the most telling of them all...

    Future Shock

To beat a dead horse... In terms of the dollars and our cap situation, I don't care all that much about spending the more than an extra million or so needed for Ericsson. What I do REALLY care about though is the precedent his deal has set. If Ericsson is worth $3.25M, then what are much better defensemen in Kronwall and Stuart worth? 6 and 5 million, respectively? I don't know, but surely Kronner and Stuey's agents will play this card heavily during negotiations. And this could have a dramatic effect on our D for years to come. So hopefully Kronwall and Stuart decide to take nice hometown discounts despite E's contract. Or Ericsson plays like a top 4 guy.

    Eli Sherbatov

He's been passed over in the draft twice already. Probably because his numbers in the Q aren't that great and the fact that he's only 5'7''. Unfortunately for him, this may be the only time he'll be on NHL.com. Feel kinda bad, considering he's exactly my height.

At least it wasn't the other way around. I'm more worried about any lingering health issues.

    Chris Osgood announces retirement

If we win one more game in '09, the Cup would be ours and the Conn Smythe would likely go to Chris Osgood. That was just two years ago. It's not ancient history. In the playoffs, I think Ozzie still has it in him to step up to the occasion if called upon. This is because he's done it before not that long ago. Could you say the same about Ray Emery or Ty Conklin?

    Keith Yandle reportedly re-signs

Officially To be a downer, he's only making $2M more than Ericsson for about 4 times the offensive production.

Is there a problem with Babs?

Thief! Don't worry, it was a good post. Schneider Lang Williams Leino Hudler I think these are the types of players who would complain. They wouldn't play like Babcock wanted (i.e., feet moving, responsible defensively and 100% effort). And because of that, Babcock was colder to them. So, of course they're going to complain. Funny thing is, the type of player who would complains is exactly the type of player Babcock doesn't like. I'm sure Datsyuk and Zetterberg think Babcock is pretty harsh sometimes. But, they understand that what he's trying to do is helping them and the team, so they just listen and never complain. As a result, Babcock has utmost trust and respect for them in return. In that way, I think Babcock's as good a coach there is in the NHLh. I mean, look at how well Bertuzzi backchecks now.

There wasn't a problem with Dave Lewis...

    Simon Gagné

With so many FA threads, why not another one... I know we're supposed to be spending on defense, but with how much cap space we have and how thin the market is for defensemen, what about signing Gagné to a one-year deal if he'll take that term? He's had a lot of injury problems the past few seasons, but I think he'd be a great fit on this team if healthy. We add a speedy and extremely defensively responsible two-way winger. He's scored 40 goals on Forsberg's wing when healthy. So if he can overcome his injury troubles, I think he'd do real well next to Z or Pavel. In the games he played, I thought he played very well these past playoffs for Tampa Bay. He'd add some perhaps needed new blood to our top 6. The way I see it... Gagné--$5-5.5M (fair market value I think and very reasonable to us for next season) Backup--$1M Trade Hudler for anything--save almost $3M (maybe trade for a backup if possible) Rest of the money? I'll let Kenny figure something out to shore up the D if possible. He'd still have over $6M. At worse, we're gonna have to go into the season with that cap space. Thoughts?
  20. Sorry if this was already posted. I was wondering if you guys knew this... Article Have to say that I'm happy he turned it down so we could sign White instead.

    New/old video of Jurco

There are hockey players that can pull all kinds of fancy s***, but still aren't good enough to go anywhere. Luckily, Jurco is a good hockey player as well. I'm much more excited to see what he can do down the road in a real NHL game. To his credit though, that was very impressive.
