Yea, let's trust TSN as a resource, they are never wrong... Toews = Canadian Ovi = Russian I am still waiting for you to show me statistically using all stats including advanced stats that Toews is better then Ovi. You cannot measure intangibles so they don't belong in the conversation since me and you don't know either of them, and TSN doesn't either since they are not in the locker room.
-
Ovi scores goals, whats the point of Hockey? to put the puck into the net. Ov is superior offensively and it's not even close. In terms of leadership Do you know Ovi personally? didn't think so therefore your "leadership" argument is out the window. Toews plays on a better team so he inherits more success from that. Playing on a line with arguably one of the best defensive wingers in the NHL helps your defense look better then it really is. Making the playoffs is a team stat, not an individual.... do you want a list of top players that played the game that didn't make the playoffs?

Jonathan Quick on snipers, including Datsyuk

You just showed stats from Toews last 3 playoff performances that shows he had more points then Zetterberg, which is obvious since he's play 43 more games then Zetterberg the last 3 playoffs, including Z coming back from back injuries in one of those series. I don't understand your argument at all. If you want to try to use the numbers to work in your favor then I can do the same. Toews .87 PPG in playoffs Zetteberg .91PPG in playoffs Zetterberg is z superior player!1!1!1!1 -
As a side note frank, do you want to compare Toews resume vs Ovi's ? Ovi will be the best player to ever play his position, Toews won't even be top 50. Ovi is by far the superior player, please do try to prove this wrong.

So your comparing Toews entire playoff numbers vs Zetterberg who hasn't made it out of the first round in 2 years... wtf? -
From the other thread, Toews last 3 seasons. His defense doesn't make up for his shortcomings, especially playing on the best team in the NHL. By your standards Bergeron is better then Toews since he out performed Toews offensively and won two Selke's the last 3 seasons. 2012-2013 47GP 48P 2013-2014 76GP 68P 2014-2015 81GP 66P Does not warrant 10.8 million.

They do have everything to do with one another. Multiple sources including TSN and NHL put Toews as a top 3 player in the NHL. If you don't think that's overrating I would like to see your definition of it. Toews last 3 years in the NHL: 2012-2013 47GP 48P 2013-2014 76GP 68P 2014-2015 81GP 66P Zetterberg 2012-2013 46GP 48P 2013-2014 45GP 48P 2014-2015 77GP 66P And no the defense is not widely the difference. I remember Zetterberg shutting down Toews and making Toews cry in the penalty box in playoff series we played against them. -
Toews has 1 PPG season in the lockout year, how does he warrant 10.8 million again? Oh right, he's a "great leader" blah blah blah so he gets an extra 2.8 million. Crosby Malkin Ovechkin Tavares Giroux 5 players right there that are better then Toews. He had 62 points the year before that..
-
Exactly. Not a bad deal at all especially when you compare his contract with the horrible contracts by Kane and Toews.

Toews is overrated for sure no matter which way you slice it. Zetterberg is better then Toews. -

This is one of my fav goals by Datsyuk. The way Quick looks back at who the hell shot it sums up this article perfectly. -
I thought the Canucks off season last year was a disaster.

Brodeur was averaging .900 save % and over 2.50GAA Schneider averaging .921 save % and less then 2.00GAA. Why should he start over Scheider again? Because he's Martin Brodeur? Hasek got benched for Osgood in the playoffs when he wasn't good enough.
-
I doubt he was being realistic with that number. It's like any negotiation, you start at a high number and meet in the middle. 6.1 / year for Holtby is not bad at all.
-
They better not.

As has been stated multiple times they all make the big decisions together, I'm not talking small decisions (waives, scratches etc). If the raw data is in front of Shanny and it shows player x is better then player y even know Lou says player y is better, Shanny is going to take player x. Example: If Nylander dominates the AHL next year, and the raw data shows he was better then Leivo, he will be up with the Leafs. Shanny has already said he bought into analytics and he believes that's where the game is heading. Anyways I'm done going off topic about this.
-
Shanahan already bought into analytics, it doesn't matter what Lou thinks he doesn't call the final shots.

Sounds to me like you want the basics and only the basics, which is fine and it work's for you. I like to educate myself on players strengths and weaknesses and overall performance so I use numbers. I want to know who was the best player on the Wings that series, what they did good, who was bad, why they were bad etc etc.
-
Well with analytics you can break anything down you want, that's the point of stats. You can say the same about any other team, at the end of the year we "Averaged" a certain number just like everyone else. Over 82 games we were absolutely a top 10 defensive team. I do hold stats to a higher value then someone scouting. When someone is scouting a player, it's a small sample size since they don't scout all 82 games. Analytics allow you to have the numbers in front of you and measure performance in which you cannot by watching. When making the hard decisions I would use analytics over what someone saw with there eye. Sorry if that bothers you, but it's my opinion.
-
Never said to not use both that's why they have scouts that watch the games and also record numbers. At the end of the day numbers don't lie and are a very accurate way to measure a player. I use them religiously in Baseball to determine how good a pitcher or batter is and believe me they are over 90% accurate in how good a player is. Hockey is getting into analytics more and more, all the front office for every team use them.

Statistics overrule what you think you saw. Sorry bud analytics aren't going anywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's not true at all, Detroit was one of the better defensive teams in the NHL last year. Detroit only allowed 27.4 shots per game (top 5) faceoffs 54.6% (top 5) and most importantly, goals allowed 2.26 (top 15). Advanced stats back up their ranking as a top 10 defensive club, with Corsi For % and Fenwick For % 6th and 8th, respectively.
-
He was better then Howard the past 2 seasons. Holtby was 5th in GAA last year, and 6th in Save percentage. He was better then Lundqvist, RInne, Quick to name a few.
