    It would take around a second round pick at most to get Gusev, if he wants 4 mill per year. He's an RFA, so a second round pick would be the compensation at that price tag. If a team trades for him, it'll likely cost around that value. Wonder if we could get away with trading them the caps 2nd round pick next year, or a couple thirds across the next two years, rather than offer sheet and lose our second which should be a top 40 pick.

    Kadri is a great shutdown center. Come playoff time, he's successfully shut down Kadri (a good shutdown center in his own right) on multiple occasions!

    Ah right. Forgot about the year rule. Theyd be dumb to not match. But 21 mill in that first untradeable year is a lot. Also, habs have 11.8 mill in cap space. With three of their own RFAs to re-sign. Not sure they could've went much higher.

    I don't know. It might be more front loaded than Carolina can handle, being a smaller market team. Wonder when that first signing bonus is due. They could potentially trade him right after matching.

    Yeah. That's about the only one though. I just think there weren't as many teams desperate to get out of bad contracts enough to trade draft picks as we were hoping. I'm with you, I wish we made these deals. I just don't think there were many of them to go around.
