7.5-8ish for 7 years? I’d do it. He may end up getting more because free agency bidding wars and whatnot. Re: why don’t we want him?.... I think it’s mostly money/not many people expect him to be interested in signing here. I don’t think he’d have a lot of interest either, but he’s still worth calling to see if there’s any mutual interest at all. But at the same time, I think he’ll re-sign in Washington before we get a chance to make that call.

On one hand, I agree that Carlson would probably cost too much for me to be comfortable with.. but on the other hand, he’s only 28 and if we could also make a deal for Bean; a defensive core of Carlson, Bean, #6 pick this year, Cholowski/whoever else pans out could look great a couple years down the line.

https://articles.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2018/06/mike_green_weighing_offers_fro.amp Here's the Khan article about Green/Carlson if anyone wants it. I don’t see Carlson coming here at all, and Khan pretty much says the same. But I do like that we’ve informed Green that we are not going to offer him 3 years.

Can these Jack and Squat guys play defense though? Might be worth it..

Erik Karlssons’s Wife Harassed While Pregnant by Another Teammate’s Fiancée

Absolutely disgusting. And there’s a report out there that the team knew since March, maybe earlier. If that proves to be true, I’d refuse to ever play another game for that organization if I were Karlsson. -
Must be healing up nicely, that’s good. I’m a fan of Green for sure. He’ll be good to have around a little longer, especially if we select one of the more offensive defensemen at 6 in this draft. That said, hopefully he opts for a one year deal and there’s no trade protection.

Hey now, where's the positivity?? You could get part of your defensive wishes.... DeKeyser will probably still be here.

Maybe he can convince Tavares to feel the same way

2.4 per year sounds a lot lower than expected for Kovy. If that’s really all he’s looking for, every team will at least give him a call.

Hampus Melen is just a late bloomer. Just you wait and see -
I might be ok with a 1 year deal if we also trade away a forward or two.. A one year deal/trade at the deadline is the only way Kovy signing in Detroit even remotely makes sense for both sides. He gets to compete for a cup, will fit under the cap of a cup team easier because we can retain half the hit, and he gets to prove he’s still got it for a bigger contract. We get free pick(s)/prospect(s). Then again, there’s a chance none of this is even true. I know Dreger is one of the most reliable sources but this rumor is hard to believe.

OEL believed to have reached a verbal agreement with the Coyotes. Ewhaaaa.... Question 1 to Kovy: "How do you feel about being traded at the deadline?" There's a better chance a contender can squeeze him under the cap and we get a free pick or so out of it Really though, that's weird news. I'm a fan of Kovalchuk and all but I'm not sure what to think of this.

I don’t know if I’d trade four picks for the 7th but it’s prettyyy tempting to at least call and see what it’ll take to get 7 or 10. I really really like Wahlstrom and Tkachuk and taking one of them at 6 (I know, Tkachuk is a long shot) and one of the four defenseman at 7/10 would be amazing. Although, at the same time, I’ve started to look at the 25-40 range of the TSN final draft rankings and there’s a lot to like there too. Trading up to 15-20 if a guy like Sandin or Boqvist start falling would interest me a lot too. -
And people who took the Vegas buyouts at the beginning of the finals!

I’m not the biggest Blashill fan by any means, but I didn’t take this interview as we don’t know where we’re going. IMO, it was more of Blashill saying that if players who have appeared in the top 6/on the power play want to stay there on a more permanent basis, they have to work hard (Bertuzzi and AA for example). And if guys like Rasmussen/Svechnokov want those spots, they have a chance to earn them in camp/preseason. There are obviously guys like Larkin, Mantha, and Zetterberg who will be in those spots for sure; I don’t think every single spot on the roster is up for grabs. But I like that they’re keeping an open mind about some spots in the top 6/power play (especially defense on the power play), rather than already having it decided. Even more so if we don’t have an assistant coach for the power play yet.

I would love for us to get Tkachuk but I don’t think he’ll still be there. High upside power forward types are a rare breed. If he’s there, I’d be a little bummed if we don’t draft him. I’ve seen something about how the rangers might want to move up to draft Wahlstrom. If he’s still there and that’s the case, I’d gladly trade them the 6th for 9 & 26. I feel like at least one of the four defensemen that have been thoroughly discussed will still be available at 9 and getting one of them plus adding a third 1st round pick would be too good to pass up. -

Sorry for your loss -
Yeah fair point. My “doubt he signs it” remark was more about the coyotes than the dollar amount though.. I guess I can’t assume to know what his mindset is. But, if it were me, I’d rather make less to play with a contender. Also, with the way free agents are bid on, it wouldn’t surpise me at all if he got 9.5/7 if he hit free agency. But I think he’ll either sign in Arizona or get traded right before free agency opens to where ever he’ll sign.

Fleury can only bail out that defense for so long
-
I agree for sure. We should definitely be looking at trading for defenseman as young as possible.. although most will probably (and understandably) cost too much. I’m mostly joking with the trade part, but 8.25 per year for OEL would be a great deal was my main point. Doubt he signs it though.

Sign then trade to us though, right? please??
