Is this really the question? Why would the wings send Howard to Grand Rapids in favor of a tandem of Ozzy, recovering from an injury and MacDonald, a number 3 goalie. This seems very unlikely even if he hasn't been playing his greatest.

Illitch is probably the greatest hockey owner and seems like a great and reasonable person so I'm not attacking him at all - but a franchise attaches itself to the community and the fans; Illitch should not have the sole say over something that existed long before him. I think the petition is a good thing for those that disagree with his position. I don't know why "due to popular opinion" would not be "the right way" to retire his number.

Woooh! I'm going to this game! Was kind of hoping Osgood would play so I could see him reach his milestone, but I've got a good feeling about this one. Since I moved away from London, Ontario I get to see one game a year when I come home for Christmas. We've seen them smoke the Hawks 2 years ago, last year they lost to the Hawks, so this year it's the Wings' turn for a win!

My thinking is that Osgood won't be in the rafters simply because the Red Wings have such high qualifications. If Osgood's number was put up in the rafters it would then, inevitably, bring out the question of why he was chosen over other players - "if he got there, then why not Fedorov, why not Shanny?" If you compare his impact to that of those two players, it would be unfair that the honour not be theirs as well. The Red Wings have only chosen iconic players that have contributed to the culture of the franchise.

As someone from London, Ontario I always thought they could support a team. I mean people are crazy about the Knights. It's almost directly in between Toronto, Buffalo, and Detroit so it wouldn't interfere with any market as much as Hamilton.

For guy of his skill level and age 1 season in the AHL is a lot of time. Remember Babcock's statement that Leino was the best player he'd ever sent to the minors.

Why? He waswilling to spend a lot of time in Grand Rapids for us, which meant got less then he would have if he had gone to a different team that first year. Also, it must have been hard to take considering he was the second leading scorer in the Finish league the year previous. To me he has seemed nothing other than a humble, hard-working guy.

I have gone to Cobo Joe's a couple times before games. It has a really nice atmosphere complete with a bartender who blows fire. It is really close to the Joe so it's convenient but always a wait when I've been there before games.

I think that Ozzie's play has been reflective of the fact he hasn't been given the games to get into a rhythm. He recovered well against PHX after a poor start and I feel/hope his season will have the same trajectory. I do think it is interesting to think about the Goalie situation next year, though. With the possibility of Nick and Ozzie's money available the wings could make a big move. I mean Bryzgalev's contract will be up, but that is probably dreaming - unless he wants to jump ship for a contender. The more likely situation, given the Wings model, is that the money is spent on defense and Conklin, who will be available, is brought back or someone similar.

I watched the opening night oilers game and it just seems that they are really struggling to try create the right arena atmosphere. They have the goofy oil rig hanging from the rafters and bad lighting, a boring announcer. It was actually seemed funny as the game followed the Toronto broadcast where they do it right. Maybe some T+A will make the crowd sound a little more excited 'cause they were dead and the oilers played well.
