They should add this guy. Now, that would make a badass roof. Wonder if Illitch meant for the mafia reference.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

If my scenario plays out and we lose Sproul due the cap crunch I will definitely turn against the Daley signing. He may be a good player, but I wouldn't want to lose Sproul for him since I still think he'll be a good un. I hope Holland knows that one of surgery guys: E, TT, Sproul or Kronwall won't be ready to go, though, and is planning around that. We'll see...

Not that it really matters for what we're talking about, but that's not a quote of Holland saying that - it's the writer's speculation. No mention of AA not going to camp. I'm glad you posted this part, though, since I think it reveals how they're going to deal with cap problem. I read that article when it came out, but I guess I didn't clue into the part about the 21 man roster. It seems, then if no one is injured, we'l just have 1 less player on the roster. I'm fine with that in theory, but we'll see who loses out. Taking out pretty much any player will provide enough space for AA. Our lowest salary is Sproul at 625,000 and even that with our current 1.4 million space would allow us to pay AA just over 2 million. With Holland's comment on likely going with 7 Dmen, that would sadly suggest to me that Sproul could be waived if we're completely healthy. Can't really see who else would be waived from the D corps: TT, Z,Manth, Goose, Lark, AA, Abby, Nielson, Helm, Shea, Glendening, Wit (12) Daley, Green, DD, Jensen, E, K, XO, (7) Mraz, Howard (2) = 21 and cap compliant

You have to post the quote to so we can see what you're referring to. We're all aware that signing AA puts us over the cap even with Franzen's LTIR relief. We all know we have to shed salary either through injury, waiving a player or trade. The jump in logic is you suggesting that AA will miss camp while Holland sees which route plays out/decides. That makes no sense. You can go into camp over the cap..

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Teams are allowed to go as much as 10% over the cap in the offseason. That's 7.5 million this year so there's nothing stopping us from signing AA and there's no reason to believe that he'll miss training camp unless he's holding out for larger demands than what we're offering. The deadline to be cap compliant is the first game not training camp.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Why? AA will probably get something around 2 mill. We're already over the cap and have to shed some salary, I don't see why having to shed an extra million would "completely screw" us. Trading Sheahan for a pick would put us almost back under the cap in that hypothetical situation. (the article says we have 1.4 mill for AA with Franzen's LTIR + replace Bertuzzi's .661 instead of Sheahan's 2 = roughly 2.75) Then, creating 250 thou can't be that hard. Someone will get injured anyway.

    2017 Opening Day Roster

Though it's not a very good group, it should be slightly better than last year. Compared to the beginning of last year, we have Jensen instead of Marchenko and added Daley. And maybe Ericsson's wrist surgery gets him back to playing a bit better. he was cleary bother by some issue this past year. As for lineups with Sproul - I've seen in recent articles on our cap situation that he's questionable to be ready for the beginning of the year

But your critique of Blashill's approach has little to take down the idea that dedication to a 'process" (aka good habits of training, practice, self-care) is a good thing in sports (or when trying to achieve anything in life, actually). And pretty much everybody says it whether in the same words or not. Just don't get why that phrase keeps getting mocked. Or are you interpreting the word process as the system?

    2017 Opening Day Roster

I know you just like to mock him so maybe I should look to much into it, but all his talk about process does make sense. With our young players, they do have learn how to train right, eat right, practice right etc. Not sure why you mock this notion everywhere. Pretty much every coach I've come across says a version of this. And results do come from that process, of course. It's also how players refine and develop these talent and scoring things you speak of.

Only if you ignore the botched rebuild 07-12 and them missing the playoffs for that period. Shanahan isn't really the beginning of their rebuild to me, since they've been trying to rebuild for so long before that. To me It's like saying the Edmonton rebuild started with Chiarelli and them picking up McDavid.

    2017 Draft

Though Larkin made the team in his first pro year, he did play a year in college after being drafted. Even that was an expedited path to the NHL for a Red Wings prospect. I think there's no chance for Rasmussen to go straight to the NHL. Maybe if we get a top pick in the next few years, but It would be surprising to me if Ras had a legit shot a making the roster even a year from now. Larkin seemed more NHL ready at draft time.

    2017 Draft

Yeah, If they don't make the NHL (which they won't) and play in junior, their pro contracts are shifted to start the following year, i believe.
  13. PavelValerievichDatsyuk

    2017 Draft

I might be slightly off on the specifics, but I think there's an agreement between the NHL and the CHL, so that a prospect can't play in the AHL or ECHL until they're 20 years old or played 3 CHL seasons. But, yeah, that would put Rasmussen's earliest time in the AHL as the playoffs after his season ends. I read somewhere that he's slated to be captain of his WHL team so It seems pretty certain he plays there. I like the quotes I've read of Ras talking about stealing jobs and making the NHL this year, even if there's pretty much no chance that happens.

    2017 Draft

Rasmussen was only medically cleared to play a game 2 weeks before the showcase and he hasn't played a game since January. I wouldn't be too worried about where or how much he plays at the showcase - he's just a guy getting back in game shape. https://www.nhl.com/news/detroit-well-represented-at-world-juniors-camp/c-290569582

    Tatar Re-Signs 4 Years $21.2M ($5.3M AAV)

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2017/07/red_wings_tomas_tatar_excited.html "I really, really wanted to stay," he said. "I think Detroit is where I belong. I have so many friends, the fans are awesome. I have a great relationship with guys in the locker room, so it would be really, really hard to have a one-year deal and kind of not knowing what was going to come in the future. I'm extremely happy that I could stay and we found a way to sign the deal"

    2017 Opening Day Roster

Well, Sproul took Vanek's 62 so that might be more of a sign that he won't be back for anyone that was holding out hope. I didn't think that was a possibility - especially with our cap situation - but there was some mention around the forum. And now we have XO (61) Sproul (62) _____, ______, DK (65) and I think Lindstrom's number is 66. Is Holland finally getting our defence in order?

    Tatar Re-Signs 4 Years $21.2M ($5.3M AAV)

Sweet! The idea of losing him was pretty crappy. I think with that shoulder fixed this should be a great year for him. I jumped around on what I thought he'd get, but this was right in my initial guess. Only seems a bit high because of that Johnson deal, but I think you could explain that due to Johnson's injury problems and lower production the past 2 years - Also is Johnson still their 3rd line center like he was when we last played them in the playoffs? If he is that would be important to their weighting. And, even if you're one would was on the side of trading him, a 1 year deal would have been bad for use. He would have been a rental to anyone trading for him and I doubt we would have gotten much. It will be interesting to see if he gets a NTC or not.

There's a bunch of examples of guys who have done they arbitration hearing and made a longer term deal instead. But I think they have to make a deal before the arbiter's decision comes in.

Ken Holland "We protected our best goaltender"

That is a really interesting article. He comes off really well and seems to contradict the negative reports about him. The So it raises the question of whether Khan did a hack job on his character. All the talk of attitude problems did come from his article, and - if you read it again - the attacks can just be written off as Khan's personal conjecture. For instance, the title was very straightforward "Detroit Red Wings exposed Petr Mrazek due to performance, attitude" like it was a statement from the team, but then in the article most is modified as Khan's own perceptions: "The Red Wings seemingly soured on Mrazek due to a combination of performance and attitude." He had no stated sources. Statements like "Mrazek was not happy the Red Wings were unable to trade Howard in the off-season and let the club know in less-than-tactful terms." are without explanation or confirmation of any type. The only vague source is "some in the organization": "Mrazek has always had a swagger and air of confidence, which appealed to the Red Wings. But sometimes he's too cocky for his own good, some in the organization believe. He became increasingly difficult to coach last season, they said." That even sounds like it's speculation on the part of the source. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2017/06/red_wings_left_petr_mrazek_unp.html Or maybe Khan's a homer and was trying to make Mrazek look unattractive to Vegas so we could keep him? haha. Anyway, who knows. Just hope he bounces back and becomes the goalie I think he can be. Even if he had some issues nothing really seemed that big anyway.

Mrazek "Maturing, could bounce back like Howard"

Well, I have seen other articles to this effect. One that I'm sure you can find if you search had links to Mrazek's instagram and this video that apparently he posted the day after being exposed (and the article guessed it was to send a message):

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Really? He already had 29 in 14-15. He had 25 this year, despite battling the shoulder injury all year and despite our powerplay being non-existent. At 26, he should be headed into his prime so I wouldn't expect his best numbers to be behind him. To me, he's absolutely gonna hit 30, if he's paired with a good center. People have made a lot of the fact that he scored a lot of his goals near the end of the season, but haven't mentioned that's when he was put with Zetterberg. He's definitely a complementary player - put him with Z or Larkin (if he's figured out the center position) and it'll be good for him and for the team's scoring. Put him with a struggling Sheahan like the majority of 15-16 and it won't work.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

They may be far apart in the arbitration offers, but Tatar asking for 5.3 isn't far from that 5X5 offer. That gives me hope that a deal will get done.
