Nill passed on drafting Larkin and chose Julius Honka. Honka could be really good too, but so far Holland's winning vs. Nill in drafting since he left because of this decision. The argument that Holland's success was due to others is one that can't be proven or disproven. There's no way that you know what happened behind closed doors so making that statement is just based on biased rather than fact. Think what you want to think. No. Nill negotiated the Z deal and Datsyuk made his own deal because he's magic. Holland is responsible for Franzen's deal because people hate that guy.

23 goals last year. 10 goals in the Lockout shortened season (you have to look at games played) so you almost double that calculating for a full 82 games (19 maybe). Then the 2 full seasons he played before that while on the 3rd and 4th lines (7 and 8 goals). 13-14 is a concerning dip down to 10 goals, but otherwise, if you account for the line he was playing with and the role served, it looks like a pretty steady progression.

Does that qualify as the first bit of grit Pulkkinen has shown? Would like him to show more battle - he gets tossed around in front of the net before and after the whistle. You must have missed some threads. I think E has been the whipping boy around here only second to Franzen before he got injured.

Kindl has 1 more year on his contract. I agree with your assessments of our D contracts. These are the prices dictated by the market. Cleary costs .950 to the Grand Rapids Griffins and marks 5000 against our cap (nhlnumbers.com). Franzen was worth his production and now costs us nothing (Capwise) if he stays on LTIR. Howard is currently top 10 in the league for stats. That's what a goalie at his level and experiance costs. I know everybody's on the Mrazek train now, but Howard's price is fair. So if I take your rankings for: 1,3,3,4,5,5+6 that just means we chose depth since we couldn't land another top pairing guy. I would argue DK is a #2 or on his way there. Also E is at least a #4. We have good goaltending to cover for the D, which isn't quite as solid as we'd like. And now prospects with potential and low price tags on the way. All good to me What are Mantha's connection to Michigan? He's from Quebec. You're probably joking, but I doubt that. We've had many Lifelong or long term WIngs that nobody considers retiring: Holmstrom, Draper, McCarty, and reading into the future Kronwall, Franzen. Unless he transforms into the second coming of Hossa, he'll fall in with these guys

Well he's definitely worth 4 million. He would get that anywhere and we want to keep him. The relevant comparison for this was Belesky. They had a similar production in past years. Belesky had a break season with Perry+Getzlaf with 32 points and got 3.8 for 5 years. Abdelkader had 1 more goal and 11 more assists than him. So he'd get more. Side Note: Ducks let Belesky go - now they suck. Was he more important to that team and their 1st line than people thought? (disclaimer: i haven't watch them so I don't really know what's going on with them) How big a hole would it be without Abby? 7 years is a little scary and I would have preferred 5. I'll wait to see the actual caphit to decide how much I dislike that. He has been pretty durable throughout his career. Also, I think if this were family feud and LGWers were asked to guess who would be lifelong Wings (excluding the generation of Z, Dats, Kron) Abdelkader would probably be the first answer. (maybe Larkin and DK as next favourites) So I don't trading him is something that would really happen.

That's assuming that the red line in parallel with the top of the photo. We can't see what angle the red line is or the other post so all we can see is the puck beside the post. There's a video that I posted that I think shows the puck in the net so there's no real need to argue about the photo, but it's certainly not a clearcut shot despite Bill's attempts to try to mock SDavis35. The other bit of common sense on this one is that goalies don't flip the puck out of the crease - they cover it or pick it up. If you flip it out you're just offering up a rebound. You flip it if it's in the net as an Oh f***! As for the strategy of letting Mrazek see OV shoot - I thought it looked like that too. It could be a good idea - cover every other option and they'll go to him and your goalie's prepared. But....in Blashill's postgame, his criticism was that they gave up "way too many PP shots to OV" (paraphrase) so it seems that this probably wasn't the plan, haha. I was a little rediculous for the Caps to keep going to OV in the same spot. I know he's one of the best goal scorers, but there was the one segment where he took 3 identical shots with identical setups in a matter of seconds. Everyone knows it's going there - why not switch sides or something, skate around with it, try to throw it in front. But, hey, it usually works for them. -
Marchenko's voodoo doll worked well. I thought Q had ankle surgery in the offseason. Maybe they missed some of the bone fragments

Anyone catch the comment by Ken last night where he said that AA (like OV) didn't get along with Dale Hunter? Does anyone know anything about that story - was it just a guess because he was traded from the London Knights? AA didn't really break out until he got with the Barrie Colts.

I didn't see the beginning of the game so I missed the replays, but this picture doesn't necessarily show a puck in the net to me. It looks like it could be on the goal line. Edit: I think the highlights here show the puck in though: http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/videos-alex-ovechkin-had-15-shots-against-the-detroit-red-wings -

So, because he went through another team Quincey was cleansed. Well, Granato was assistant coach of the Pens after Colorado so you're Ave cootie free on that one too. -

Penguins like dumping their future. But maybe they're not a favourite. -

Everybody else here thought AA played great. What did you see that you didn't like? I think that's a horrifically terrible trade idea. He's just a RENTAL and you're giving up our top scorer, a high prospect that will play on this team and could be a big part of the future, and Pulks who could be a 20 goals scorer.

http://thechronicleherald.ca/sports/1321588-evgeny-svechnikov-pays-it-back I like this guys story and the article reflects well on his character. He's currently 25th in QMJHL scoring, but those higher on the ranking all have more games played (as much as 6 more gp)
-
No. I think we have some players coming up that can fill that role and have facets to their game. Bertuzzi, Callahan? If we do for his same price, though, I won't be heartbroken.
-
Man, you keeping acting like people are in love with Miller. Can't really think of anyone. Some say he's a good PKer or under-appreciated. Many don't want AA or Mantha playing on the 4th line and having to cover PK duties. You seems to miss the difference between that and infatuation. I'm sure most would love to replace him with a left wing version of Glendening or Helm (someone with a bit of scoring and other facets to their game), but he does what he does well. Also, Miller's only -3. Sheahan, Nyquist, Tatar, Helm, Marchenko are all lower than him and Mr. Miller gets the toughest defensive assignments along with Glendening. He isn't used for offence so his +/- means something different than it would for an offensive forward.
-
I thought that AA played great too, but I think the Helm-Glen-Miller line wasn't really a demotion . They were matched against Stars top line and played respectable minutes. AA only played a team-low 9:36 (but made a lot of it) and Pulk and Andy only played a bit more because of special teams. I thought that Helm had his 2nd good game since coming back. I would have prefered him with AA on that 3rd line
-
Well, I disagree. He's fast, but that's not all that skating is about. There was that recent GWG that was due to him pivoting for a breakout and not being able to handle the pass from Kronwall. Also, against Tampa he had a breakaway and lost the puck off his stick, tried to kick it up to his stick, stepped on the puck and fell. I think his issue with skating is while with the puck and on pivots. If you read the original article that we're talking about, they are just giving him time to right these things in his game: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/10/red_wings_have_a_long-term_pla.html Edit: Nevermind. This one sounds like it is about consistently skating hard during games: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/10/red_wings_tomas_jurco_knows_he.html

Was he even on the 4th line? From what I saw Glendening, Helm and Miller were together.

those FSD commercial breaks are annoying. We get 5 seconds of a conversation and have no idea what they're talking about. -
Or maybe they just think his skating isn't good enough. That is the one thing that is usually worked on intensely with prospects in GR.
