    Rumors Thread

https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/DET/2018.html Larkin's leading our forwards in icetime. Mantha's 2nd among winger's just behind Nyquist (by :15) and 4th behind Lark, Gus, Z. He's had some rough stretches this year (the past few games included) so I think it's understandable that he's not up with Lakrin for icetime (also, he doesn't PK like Larkin does). I think these are fine. AA Should be getting more time, but he has been pretty underwhelming so far this year. A lot that could be credited to him missing training camp and coming in cold. Hopefully his icetime increases as he gets his game together. Mrazek should have gotten a few more games, but he hasn't made much of a case for himself when he's been in. I feel like the organization has already made a decision that he's not part of our future since they exposed him and reportedly tried to trade him in the offseason. I disagreed with those decisions, but if Howie is the way we're going for the next few years, then he should be the one playing the majority. And I don't see a conspiracy against youth here. Blash named Mrazek the #1 pretty early into his career and before he had really earned it. But I guess I somewhat agree with the spirit of the article and I hope we'll see callups from Bertuzzi and others soon (and less Wit - sorry fight lovers).

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=177611 He's only played 11 games for the Guelph Storm this year so he must be injured.

Go WIngs! Austin Matthew's is still out for the Leafs, so we have to take advantage of that and get a win. I want to see Mantha get a goal for this one. He had a few moments last game where he was shaking his head and looking pretty frustrated. He's pointless in the last 5. Good to see we're loaded up with that Tatar-Larkin-Mantha line.

Putting out Z and Nyquist for the beginning of OT made no sense. Z was looking off to me tonight (the pass for the tying goal went right through him) and Nyquist's been pretty bad for the last stretch (except the Winnipeg game). For a depressing update, our 1-5-4 record in the past 10 is worst in the league. Anyway nice goal from Larkin. I'm all about watching the young guys develop this year it's good to see him put a goal in since it's been a while since his last.

Blashill says struggling Wings must "Trust The Process."

Seems to me that "The process" is really a sports cliche that pretty much everyone says so I'm always surprised when people mock Blashill's use of it. It's like "take it one game at a time" to me. Then again, maybe it's a sly reference to the 76ers to reveal that we're tanking, haha: "You would be hard-pressed to find a mantra throughout sports history that is more synonymous with a team's culture and identity than "Trust the Process" is to the Philadelphia 76ers. A rally cry once used exclusively by the wonkish followers of the team's Patron Saint of Tanking, former Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie, TTP has outgrown both the group and city to gain relevance throughout the U.S. pop-culture landscape. From Ace Hood to Anthony "The Mooch" Scaramucci, everybody is putting their trust in the process these days." http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2729018-the-definitive-history-of-trust-the-process

I think the thing you keep missing is the factor that he's not on a long term contract. It's not trading a young player for 'arguably the best defenseman,' it's a year of him and basically negotiating rights. And I think you're overvaluing that.

    Rumors Thread

I think we're in line for a pretty good player this year. Maybe next year too. And, yes, Karlsson would be a shortcut to a rebuild, but I'm not sure Larkin, AA, Rasmussen, Svech (our current one) Cholo and Karlsson would be enough of a core to win. And I'm sure Karlsson could see greener pastures elsewhere when considering whether to stay. With Tavares, sure, that be a nice team, but that's a few too many hypotheticals ahead for me. Anyway, for my last pitch to you. I'll counter what you imagine: If you lost Mantha, Nyquist, and 2 1st rounders, and then Karlsson went elsewhere in free agency, I think that'd go on the list of worst trades ever. And think of how much that would put the rebuild behind. But I guess you'd be a bolder GM than I.

You've taken away the 2 first rounders from the trade you were talking about. And it would cost more than Mantha and Nyquist. Think of Vanek in 2014. He cost the Islanders Moulson, a 1st and a 2nd - and he had only a half year left on his contract. So Karlsson would be quite a bit more than that. And then he wanted to test free agency after all and didn't sign with them. I'm sure that Holland will call as well (as he should), but I don't think it'd be worth while to trade so much for which will essentially be a year of him when we're not a contender and negotiating rights. Especially with his comment about getting what he's worth, I think he'll check out free agency (unless he has loyalty to Ottawa and is just trying to get the most from them).

    Rumors Thread

I'm sure Z's a charming guy, but that's a lot to risk on his abilities of persuasion. And, besides, after Karlsson's current contract Nyquist and Kronwall's will also be done, E will have 1 year left and Z will have 2 so there's really not much to say that his Swedish friends would be around much if he were to sign on here after his current contract was up. The mafia could be broken up by then. And Alfredsson was made a Canadian citizen and given the key to Ottawa in 2015, so I think he moved back there (or maybe he has multiple homes, but I doubt he would have kept a place in Detroit since he has little history there).

Besides any other consideration, Karlsson is due to be a UFA in 2 years, so that would be such a massive overpayment for 1.5 years of the dude.

Has Blashill finally lost the team?

Ah, good to know. I guess they're looking for something to put the playoffs back on their radar? That would make sense for Green. Mrazek would be more for future years, though Talbot has some pretty bad numbers this years so maybe not. It's a good thing for our situation that there has been interest in our castaways (yes, this is a Wilson joke). Smith, Jurco, Vanek, Sheahan, WIlson... soon we will have all the picks (insert evil laugh). Still don't know how I'd feel about losing Mrazek, though (cue goalie flame war).

Has Blashill finally lost the team?

Part of that video says Edmonton is looking at Mrazek of Detroit. Interesting... Not sure what he would demand if he were traded.

    12/9 GDT - Blues @ Red Wings - 1:00 PM EST

7th to last place with everybody except Buffalo and Arizona having played less games. Could be as bad as 4th last if Ott, Avs, Fla win their next game. and Avs, Ott have 2 games in hand so they get 2 shots at it.

Helm, Glendening and Nielsen on to start the 3rd. They've been good, but interesting choice when you're down 4 and need offence.
