Consistency in punishment is more important. Anyway, this incident really wasn't bad compared to others are - why choose this one to make an example. And there was Raffi Torres who was suspended for 41 games in the preseason. If you want an example, that would probably count.

    All purpose Mike Babcock thread

I don't really think you can rate a coach with much accuracy. It will always be debatable whether results are due to the players or the coach. A lot rests on luck of getting in position where you will succeed. And reputation plays a role in much that a coach does. If a coach wins somewhere, even if it was with an incredibly good team, they will be given the opportunity to coach other good teams. Also, going in as winning coach, you will likely be more respected by players which likely improve your effect on players. That is one aspect of Babcock's decision that I respect - he put himself in a situation that could possibly ruin or at least tarnish his very high reputation. Some will say it was for the money, but he could have been well payed by far better teams. I don't see what this comment is based on. He brought in assistants here with new ideas and delegated to them (PP in particular). Has often said that he didn't really coach Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Z, because they do things right and you don't need to guide them. Took line suggestions from those top guys as well. You mean the one photo at the draft? Don't see why getting a photo with his friends would reflect badly on him.

Looks like Tyler Bertuzzi is a ****** like his uncle

Well Tinky Winky did that while in GR and now it's forgiven by the fanbase. Young players make mistakes and errors of judgement. Really excited about Lil Bert.

Though I agree that the team let up in general at the end, from watching the highlights I realized that both the 2 late goals against were largely Kindl's fault. A bad giveaway in front of the net and missed man coverage in front of the net for the second one. For some reason that makes me feel better about the team's effort. Maybe Blash just needs to scream at Kindl instead of the whole team. Just play the safe shutdown game when it's 5-1. No need to make risky passes.

It's not a satisfying win in Ottawa with out Neil flying in late with his cape on and acting a fool.

You were quite disrespectful in your responses that's why you got called pathetic. You called my comment a "dumb excuse" (although you misunderstood' what I wrote). You questioned whether someone was even watching, and the "Really?" and "any more excuses" is just needlessly contemptuous of other's opinions. Now you question if we've played hockey, because, of course, if our opinions are not yours we must be lacking some qualifications. Hockey teams do watch tape and make a game plan based on matchups and augmentations to parts of their strategy (maybe harder forecheck against certain teams, maybe take advantage of a goalie who doesn't handle the puck, goalies look at shooter's tendencies...etc). And they do go over tape of the past game and show the players certain mistakes and how they can fix them. I'm pretty sure we have one person whose sole job it is to compile tapes for players - at least we did last year.

I disagree with this part. The back-to-back games every week have been a bad thing for us. Not only are we tired for the 2nd game, it also takes away the time to watch tape on the upcoming team and the time to correct mistakes in practice from the previous game. Pavel can't come back quick enough.

Jeff Blashill = Dave Lewis 2.0 / Coaching Change

I think it's crazy that you're laying blame for the current struggles on Blash's back. We have Datsyuk Franzen, Green, Richards, Quincey out. DD, Helm were out for a long stretch. With just that, did you expect this team to be at the top of the standings? Even without injury problems, there was going to be a transition period getting used to his of style. Also, He's juggled the lines and it does take time to develop chemistry. Sheahan's been a new role at wing for a number of game, Glendening also, we introduced Richard's and Green to the line-up (G's transition was pretty quick), Not too many of the players had played with Larkin or Pulkkinen. I think it'll just take a bit of time to get going and, of course, the return of some of the injured. We're 10 games in. I was wondering how long it would take for people to turn on Blash - this has been surprisingly quick. edit: BoS beat me to these sentiments.

10/27/15 - Carolina Hurricanes vs. Detroit Red Wings - TACKY Mad Libs

Sheahan's been playing wing and he wasn't any good at it. Now he's moved back and he's had some good moments, but hasn't adjusted back it seems. Glen was good on the 4th center. I think that earned him 3rd line spot, but I wish they'd move him back. Andersson had a part in the goal, but what else has he done this year?????

You knew Mrazek would get burned handling the puck the way he does. I actually think it's a miscommunication with the Dman who was to close to pass to. Yeah!!!!!.........Kindl

10/27/15 - Carolina Hurricanes vs. Detroit Red Wings - TACKY Mad Libs

Tuesday Night, October 27th, Vladimir Putin watched as the Detroit Red Wings Certainly Existed out of the dressing room and Loudly stepped onto the ice for their pregame skate. Darren Helm fired pucks at the Elephant while Nantucket fans watched in envy. You could tell that the Tubular referees were going to have to keep an eye on the Table, as it was going to be a fast game due to the Groovy skating abilities of both teams. Eric Staal's Humongous hair was flowing ala 90's Fedorov style, and Henrik Zetterberg's Disastrous beard could have scared a Succubus. The Red Wings line-up was depleted due to a severe case of Whooping Cough, while the Hurricanes were sporting a fairly Succulent team full of Gnarly youngsters and Admirable veterans. Jeff Blashill's Egg needed no adjusting, and Nick Kronwall's preparation was nothing short of Awkward, Instead of Journey’s "Don't Stop Believing", the music selector was going to play Ride of The Valkyries if the Red Wings prevailed. The starting line-ups were announced, but LeftWinger couldn't believe Blashill was going to start Dekeyser. GMRWings heard at Disney.com, while roboturner encouraged Adviltaker. The ref finally sat the puck, and everyone could, at last, start calling out Larkin as the Hyena. Just hope we able to prevail over such a succulent team

Cleary NOT reporting to Grand Rapids

DIdn't know AA was 11. That's my lucky number and I really like the kid. If he ends up as good as I think he will - then I'm buying that jersey. Unless, of course, you have to pay by the letter. If that's the case, I'm hoping Frk turns out.

And only Mike Babcock would consider Datsyuk and Zetterberg above Larkin in the depth chart.

Green Kronwall seem to be a good one for the part of the game they were together and DD and Q are also proven to be good together from last year. But....the problem I have with that is that it makes an offensive pair and a defensive pair. I'd still go with that, but if it doesn't look ideal I think it be a good idea to try K+Q and DD-Green. I know I'll get some backlash for having Q on the top pair, but he's honestly been one of our best defenders this year and it would make for more balenced pairs.

10/24 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Canucks 2 (OT)

Q was out with a concussion. E looked okay. There was the stick breaking incident that Jimmy mentioned. FSD said I a couple times that they were impressed with Ericsson, so maybe I just wasn't watching him closely enough. Smith got caught on the PP in the first and gave up a shorthanded breakaway. Luckily, they didn't score. He also made the play that lead to pulkkinen's goal. The Defensive play of the night, though, was Dekeyser saving the game by stopping a puck on the goal line.

Also Pulkkinen - he may not be the most complete player (and got flipped like a rag doll after the whistle last night), but he's been putting up goals. 4 goals in 8 games. The question with him at the beginning of the season was whether he get his scoring touch to transfer to the NHL - well, that's a hell of a start.

I didn't think you thought it was serious - I shouldn't have written it that way. On the subject of Vinny, he's already been a healthy scratch this year and looks headed for another buyout.

Datsyuk, Quincey, Green, Richards, Franzen out. Back-to-back. This game was going to be rough. Let hope we have some guys take the team on their back and we get some luck.

It was definitely just a joke. Dats, Lark (or Z), Sheahan, Glen looks good down the middle to me. I read somewhere that's it's not allowed to re-sign someone that you've just bought out. Otherwise, it could be used as a way to make a caphit lower. I don't what the rules are after a certain amount of time passes
