Signed Wings sign Brad Richards 1 yr, $3 million
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Wingzman91's topic in General
Oh no! I never thought of that. I'm a Feds lover and I don't want to see that. Maybe he could just choose one of the numbers around that like 90....oh wait. -
signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

He does wear Ericsson's 52. I'm guessing he'll be 25. If he does, It'll be hard not thinking of McCarty. -

Sweet! I really didn't think this would happen. Great term! Saw much speculation that he would get a raise, but he actually took a little cut in this (minuscule, but still he definitely could have gotten more) For those that say that we have too many Dmen, remember that Q only has 1 year remaining. I'm assuming Kindl is the odd man out and will be sent to GR or we could trade him if that's an option. Either way Kenny said 1 of young D men would be up (I assume Marchenko) and next year there's room for another (Jensen, Ouelette, Sproul will fight it out). K-E DK-Green Q/Smith-Marchenko -
Those are all powerplay clips. He could have played just with Malkin at full strength together. That still would accountant for higher number than him currently playing with Ribeiro. But, yes, playing on the powerplay with Crosby and Malkin definitely helped his numbers also.

Kunitz didn't just have 1 outlier year. Wikipedia says that Kunitz has only been consistantly on the top line since 2010. 10-11: 23 Gs in 66 gp = 28 or 29 in a full season 11-12: The season that Crosby only played 20 something games 12-13: The lock-out shortened season: 22 goals in 48 games. That's 37 or 38 over a full season. 13-14: The big 35 goals 14-15: He broke his ankle this past season That's all higher than his pre-Sid days. Kunitz isn't really the best comparison, though, because he spent some time with Getzlaf and Perry with the Ducks. That's a an upgrade on linemates, but not as big as going from Bozak to Crosby. I agree that Hossa was a better goal scorer before playing with Datsyuk. He was more of a pure goal scorer and later rounded out his game. He's was also on some good lines on those earlier teams, though and that's what we are talking about here. 02-03 Senators: Team won the presidents trophy. Pretty good support staff: Alfie, Spezza, Havlat, Bonk, Chara, Redden (when he was great) Mike Fischer, Todd White (60 pts - why do I have no idea who this guy is?) Don't really know who he played with. 06-07 Thrashers: probably played with Kozlov (80 pt. season), maybe Kovalchuk (76 pts) though I think they were both RW. I think you have to look at the immediate surrounding years and who they were playing with. I just thought it was funny that you chose 2 situations where players goal scoring did take a noticeable spike up. I won't take the bet because I don't care all that much (about Kessel, not about charities, haha) and I'm a fairly broke musician. I do think there's a chance that it doesn't work between Kessel and Crosby since Crosby doesn't readily have chemistry with everyone (think olympics, fired coach). In that case K will play with Malkin and his totals will still go up. I'm hoping that he blows up with Crosby so that Leaf fans will be tortured for years to come.

Uh....no. Hossa scored 29 in the year previous then scored 40 when paired with Datsyuk. Then in the years following 24, 25, 29. What was the difference? Playing with Datsyuk. Kunitz has got as high as 35 with Crosby. Previously with the Ducks his highest was 25. Also the mean number is higher during his time with Crosby. Did you not think someone would check it?
-
Dupuis scored 6 goals in 16 games and Kunitz scored 17 in 74. Adding a 30 goal scorer will be huge for them. Their window is closing in a few years with Crosby and Malkin getting older. Good deal for them. They just need Defence. I'd keep Erhoff if I were them.

Last year Goose Shea Tat didn't play that well together. I feel that splitting up the Euro Twins was more to help out Gus and Tats then anything else. If they step up then they could be the second line. Two years ago, though, the "kid" line that worked really well was Jurco-Shea-Tats. I don't think TT and Gus have that much chemistry together.

Andersson also. Agreed, too many forwards to add anyone except by trade. -

Larkin has run with every opportunity that he's been given so I actually think there's a small chance he'll be on the opening roster. Your F lineup is more likely, though, except Pulkkinen will be there over Andy or maybe Jurco. If he's still around, I want to see the redemption of Weiss this season. With Dats out and Babcock gone, it's the perfect opportunity for him to lay a claim to a Center position.

#73 OA - Defenseman Vili Saarijarvi
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
Cause I was showing guys 5'10" that have made the league. I was showing my point - didn't know I was supposed to read your mind and respond to your line of thinking. If you want to restrict the converstaion to D men, fine. You've listed a number of guys 5'10" and under who have made it to the NHL. I would also add Tyson Barrie. We do actually have some big guys on D, if Vili is a great offensive guy it would be fine to have one undersized guy back there. I appeciate that you thought there were better options. I haven't judged the pick, yet myself since I don't know much about him. I just don't think that size is everything (insert penis joke here). I would like very much if he became Krug, Rafalski, Ryan Ellis, Tyson Barrie... -
#73 OA - Defenseman Vili Saarijarvi
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
Yeah, 5'10" can cut it in this league (Rafalski, Koivu, Versteeg, Briere, Timonen, P. Kane) Any smaller and it's less likely that they'll make it to the NHL. Even then there's the St. Louis, Marchands, Hudlers, and Cammalleris of the world. Saarijarvi is listed as 5'10" in these places: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/06/detroit_red_wings_select_finni.html http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectdetail.htm?dpid=93876 He's 5'9" in these places, but whose to say how up to date they keep these kinds of websites http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=177677 http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=122954 I'll wait until I see him to judge him. Size is only 1 factor. -
That's a good video about him. He sounds like a hard worker off the ice and they talk about his good personality/attitude. Put into a new situation/country/language/workload and was able to take on the challenge and do well. That says a lot to me. Also, it's been too long since we've had an "ov" on our team!! Like the pick - I'm on board!

McCollum probably won't resign seeing that he has no chance of moving up here. Its a long shot for Paterson or Perry to be NHL goalies. We need to have someone in line for the NHL who can fill in for injuries or become the backup if a possible goalie controversy forces either Howard or Mrazek out in a few years. Vili Saarijarvi is listed at 5'10" in most places I've found. He's small, but there's plenty of players in the league at that size. We do actually have some size on D (though many will say they don't play large)
-
mlive puts him at 5'10" 163 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/06/detroit_red_wings_select_finni.html
-
But we do need a goalie with Mrazek moving up and we got a RH defenceman. Those sound like our needs to me
-
Well Bruins are less douchy now with no Lucic, but Marchand still keeps them high on that scale.
-
That's what I keep thinking. Why not shed Chris Kelly or one of their other 2 upcoming UFAs: Lucic, Eriksson. It would be especially funny if some of those players don't re-sign. Now they've gutted the defence in the past two years. Those 3 picks could be more valuable than Hamilton, but that's about 3 years away and by then Chara will be 41 and Seidenberg will be 36. That doesn't seem like a good timeline for success to me.
-
Regardless, We're rebuilding - you don't trade young talent and a first rounder for a player at the end of their career in that situation. I'll really hoping for Franson. Yandle would be great if it didn't take too much - otherwise wait for him to be a UFA next year.

Players who might be available due to teams cap issues
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Yeah I see that. Our targets should be Defencemen, anyway. Cheap, I want him, but that's pretty unlikely. We do have Pulkinen, Jurco, etc for the 3rd line wingers. Go with youth unless the high level players are available. -

Hmm...I want. They'll need an Oduya replacement. Wonder if they'd be interested in Smith+? I could see him going to Montreal, though. They need offence and are looking to win now. I don't see it unless we move Weiss. -
Our past success gave those individuals the opportunity take on good jobs with teams on the rise.

Here we go AGAIN - Coyotes, part DUH!
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
We did this conversation last year so I know no one is going to convince you, but I'll respond a bit. The "If they don't win consistently..." argument ignores how dedicated people are to hockey up north. The Oilers have sucked for how long? and they've sold out 100% for at least the 10 years that this chart goes: http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance/_/year/2006 ...and they're building a larger arena. The Jets and Oilers demand some of the largest ticket prices and still get 100% attendance. They may not get the largest crowds, but that's because of small arenas. Ticket revenue is different. Jets are 16th, Calgary 11th, Edmonton 14th. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-franchise-values-canada-making-fortune-columbus-league-170231554--nhl.html Edmonton's revenue will go up when they get their larger arena. Jets could probably move to a bigger place in the coming years. They're planning to add about 300 seats, but that's not enough, obviously. Their media revenue will be higher now due to the sportsnet deal which shows many more games (especially compared to the 90s) A lot has changed economically since the 90s. The salary cap changes everything, to start with. One of the huge factors for the Jets and Nordiques leaving was that they couldn't compete financially with other team for free agents - now the playing field is pretty even in that respect. It was also the era of Bettman growing the game into the U.S. and so the league was more than willing to take the opportunity to take a team south.
