Is Joe Louis Arena a tough place to play?
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
Well, anyway, if you think it's worth arguing whether this team is as exciting as a team with Fedorov, Yzerman, Shanahan, Lidstrom, Konstantinov, Lapointe, etc. then I think we're doing pretty well these days. -
And Patrice Bergeron commented "big deal!"

Swag, I think you mean. As in a team full of highly paid players without worrying about a cap. Of course, fans were more excited - we won more and were full of stars. That can't happen anymore. I like this team. If you want swagger, just keep your eyes on Mrazek all night. -

Damnn, look at hurr she must be an Abby! Mmmm look at those hips -
Each team had 2 compliance (aka amnesty) buyouts after the lock-out. They could either use them post 12-13 or post 13-14. That's all over with now. We could do a regular buyout, but then "The cap hit charged to the team after the buyout will be spread out over a period of twice the remaining the length of the contract." (http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-nhl-buyouts/) So that's a 2.45 million caphit for the next 6 years. That doesn't seem smart to me. If we can trade him that's the best option, but, if not, I think Weiss still has something to offer. He did score 9 in 52 games - that's not too bad. If we have a different coach next year who plays Weiss at 3rd line center I could see him finding a role.

McLelland won the Calder cup as a coach in 2003. He's won the same amount at Blashill. I think I'd give Blashill a shot as well, though.

Oilers win the Draft Lottery
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
He's been in the league 5 years. Are you suggesting that 25 is too old? Anyway, Eberle would be a keeper for me. He's probably been their most sturdy contributer. Hall's always injured, and he's outproduced RNH so far. -

This sucks most for the Coyotes. They drop from 2 to 3 and now miss out on getting one the big 2. But they still have OEL so I don't feel too bad for them. -

ECQF Game 2 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Tampa Bay Lightning 5
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
No we didn't. we had much more possession, time in there zone. We just didn't create many dangerous chances. If that makes me nuts, I'm quite fine with that. I think our defensive zone coverage was much worse this game, though. We need to stop waiting to get set up on our offence. It gives them time to be organized and their coverage is too good for that. Lets create some chaos in their zone next game! Work the cycle game, Shots off the back boards, Defensemen and wingers switching side. Some creative stuff to break up their box. -

Our offence is neutered with Franzen, Cole and Abby out. We're forced to rely on the PP. It's been great all year - it's just not working here. I think we need to get their players moving. Their box is just sitting there waiting to block our shots. -

Franzen, Abby, and Cole are out. If 2 of those guys are back next year, then we are bigger. Edit: Also, NO LUCIC!!! -

The passing is pretty crisp. Still getting boxed out, though. Is Marchenko playing with Kronwall? -

Now we're looking pretty good! -
What kept us alive in that game was a solid Defensive coverage in our own end. To me, Kindl would compromise that so I say no to him. Marchenko played well and I like the defensive pairings when he's in - It allows Quincey to be on the 3rd pairing and cover for Zidlicky. Tats and Nyquist didn't bring their game, but they need to be in. They are the secondary scoring that didn't show up. I think the kid line works as the 3rd line, but they were clearly outmatched against the Stamkos line. Z and Datsyuk together gives us 1 line that will surely work. I'd like: Tatar-Dats-Helm Nyquist-Z-Abby/Jurco for now Weiss-Sheahan-Ferrarro (or Pulkkinen) Miller-Glendening-Andersson

gdt Post-GDT ECQF Game 1: Red Wings 3, Lightning 2 (DET leads, 1-0)
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Matt's topic in General
Now, that was ugly for sure, but it wasn't quite 14-46 shots ugly. Some of that had to do with the 7 penalties called against us. Hopefully, if we spend less time on the PK we'll look a little more energetic next game. Any line up changes? I wouldn't mind if Pulkkinen played next game to get some more shots. Not sure who i'd want him to replace, though. -

Agreed, it was a very stupid play. It also was so obvious since it was right in front of the ref. Not sure what he was thinking. -

He left for a while, came back, looked like he was in pain, left again and then came back shortly after that. Seems crazy that he got tossed. Subban won't get suspended, but I think the Sen's coach might get fined. I mean, you can't threaten another team's player or the league like that. -

What high standards? They didn't make the playoffs. Maybe if we didn't make the playoffs Holland would be gone. Don't know what the pizza-induced coma comment is about. You know that he's dealing with colon cancer. And, also, you know that Ilitch's son took over long ago.
