That's why free agents flock there. Oh, wait...

Many people have argued that 13 is the best player in the league (more often a few years ago). Why would he not be up there? He hasn't put up huge number, but he's one of the best 2-way players of all-time, life-time Wing. I also think Z gets up there for similar reasons. I also think that 91 should be up there. From our recent golden age, the players you most associate (and most responsible) are 19-91-5. Get him up there.

Marchenko or Ouellet will take the final spot for playoff time. Listening to Holland's recent interviews I really don't think we're doing much. Green is still available, but Washington is in a Wildcard spot so I don't see them trading him. Also, we're just 4 pts. ahead of them so I don't know why they'd want to help us out. I'm fine without a trade now. Adding the RH Dman was supposed to help our PP and our get our offence going. Our PP is #1 and our offence has been doing well. With Marchenko we have a viable RH shot on D and having him seems to have helped Smith. I just hope we find a taker for Kindl at the deadline.

2/14 GDT : Jets 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Z also wasn't very good last year in the playoffs when he was coming back from an injury. Both inexperience and coming back from an injury are explanations (or excuses, if you want) for substandard play. -
they're 3 pts behind us. i don't think we'd help them out like that.

Pav's supposed to be the one that banks it off our grinders - not the other way around! -
If you watch the 2nd replay Klingberg's shot goes of the shaft of a FLA player and that's what sends it up to hit Eaves. Too bad for Eaves - always loved the guy. He's just had some horrible luck. In the video it says he also broke his foot this year? It also says that Eaves has been playing on their top line and power play. That either reflects really well on how Eaves has been playing or badly on the Stars lineup. I always thought he showed hints at greater offensive potential while he was here. 13 pts in 28 gp ain't bad - especially when dealing with a broken foot.

It is funny that Andersson gets a center spot over Weiss. I guess he hasn't been that great recently, though, and it probably has more to do with Glendening playing well and getting put on the 3rd line.

Manny Legace joins concussion lawsuit..
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
Nope. As the article at the top of this thread says (you should read it before you react so strongly to it), all 29 of those players are newly added to the lawsuit. The original lawsuit was in November 2013 and started with 10 players http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-faces-concussion-lawsuit-10-former-players-allege-230857047--nhl.html According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, the players are Gary Leeman(667 games, 1982-97), Brad Aitken (14 games, 1990-91), Darren Banks (20 NHL games, 1992-94), Curt Bennett (580 NHL games, 1970-80), Richard Dunn, Warren Holmes, Bob Manno (371 games, 1976-85), Blair Stewart (229 games, 1973-80), Morris Titanic (19 games, 1974-76) and Rick Vaive (876 games, 1979-92) Soon after, Bernie Nichols (1127 games) joined in. The lawsuit grew to over 200 names. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/nhl-concussion-lawsuit-grows-to-over-200-players-lawyers-1.2443059 Now, these 29 players have been added. -
Manny Legace joins concussion lawsuit..

Okay, so I didn't know many of the hockey players listed so I was going to allow your "minimal time in the NHL" claim. But then I looked into the story... Greg Adams 1056 NHL games Rick Berry 197 NHL games Richard Brodeur 4 NHL Seasons, 7 WHA seasons Shawn Chambers 625 NHL games Todd Elk 448 NHL games Robert “Butch” Goring 1107 Games Mark Hardy 915 NHL games Michael Hartman 397 NHL Games Todd Harvey 671 NHL Games Garry Howatt 720 NHL Games Dave Hutchinson 584 NHL Games Edward Kennedy 696 NHL Games Mike Lalor 687 NHL Games Darren Langdon 521 NHL Games Manny Legace 365 NHL Games Jamie Lundmark 295 NHL Games Sergio Momesso 710 NHL Games Stephen Patrick 455 NHL Games Craig Redmond 191 NHL Games Terry Ruskowski 630 NHL Games Brian Savage 674 NHL Games Turner Stevenson 644 NHL Games German Titov 624 NHL Games Todd Warriner 453 NHL Games Vernon Westfall 1226 NHL Games Shortest NHL careers in the list: Jeff Parker 141 Tony Horacek 154 NHL Games Jean Francois Jomphe 111 NHL Games Jeffrey Shevalier 32 NHL Games (only one that fits your characterization) Concussions can have serious consequences in someone's life. The NHL didn't guard players as they are attempting to do now. We've heard the horror stories from Probert to McCarty, etc. These players may have had horrible experiences. I think they deserve to be taken seriously. At the least, find out about the story before you discount them and spread misinformation. -
Manny Legace joins concussion lawsuit..
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
It makes sense that those looking for damages would be those that had struggling careers that were hurt by concussions rather than those who had thriving careers and made millions. -
Good point. I guess that explains why Buffalo had to give the first rounder.

Nabokov traded back to San Jose
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
It is a symbolic gesture, but think it's very meaningful for certain players. They chose to not resign Nabokov, which is a bit of a FU to a guy that was important to the franchise. I'm sure there were some hurt feelings - is a nice way for the player to be re-embraced by the team and fanbase. Think of the bad circumstances that Modano, Alfredsson have left teams. They mended the hurt feelings with the Modano situation and now he works for them. Would have liked Fedorov to have been signed for a day so he could retire with us. I feel like there hasn't been much of an opportunity for fans to celebrate him since he left under those bad circumstances (maybe a bit at the winter Classic). It's a small thing, but I think it's nice way tie up a player's legacy with a team and help mend rifts. -
I think it's just a game of semantics that Olberman is nitpicking at. I always took "original" to mean before the 1967 expansion. I think it is fairly well known that, in the early years, the NHL was in flux and included teams that don't exist anymore.

Nabokov traded back to San Jose
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
When his contract was up he asked for too much (somewhere near 6 mill, i think, but my memory could be off). Sharks were really close to the cap and wanted to use the money elsewhere or else they'd have the same team that hadn't gotten them very far.) Then in free agency, some weird situation happened where he waited for the sharks until all goaltending openings were gone or maybe no one wanted to pay him a big contract (kind of forget). I remember thinking it was a good cautionary tale about dealing with Free agency, though. He definitely should have been able to find a good spot, but it kind of messed up career when he was pretty much in his prime. Edit: I also think Niemi was signed after he was gone, but I could be wrong -
Marchenko recalled from GR... Ouellet sent down
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
But Ouellet was only brought back up because of the Dad trip - without that it's Ouellet getting 21 games and then give Marchenko a shot. I think you're reading too much into a player getting more than 3 games to show what he's got. I doubt they've even made much of a judgement on him after so few games anyway. -
The land of misfit toys used to be Florida or the Islanders, but they've both turned things around and I don't see either of them taking a chance on him. I could see the Devils or Buffalo as a possible destinations. They both really have little to lose and need offence for the future. I would throw Arizona in there, but with Ribeiro, they showed that they have no patience for behaviour problems.

That point is next year. Wings have 30 games left, GR has 29. I think it's really a choice between around 8 NHL games or 20 AHL games. The main difference is that he would play in the playoffs in GR. That's probably an opportunity that he needs to take advantage of. I'm fine with it either way, though. I feel Mrazek is developed to the point where he needs to play in the NHL to develop further. If that's next year or the rest of this year. The positive of it being this year is that he'll get more time to practice with Jim Bedard and face NHL competition and he would be more ready for his role next year. Edit: It is hard to estimate how many games he would play this year, but the wings have 6 back-to-back pairs left so I think you could count him for 6 at the very least. Here's a side question: If Howard got injured mid-game in the playoffs, who would you rather have on the bench to replace him, Mrazek or Monster?

Babcock: "HE WINS, FULL STOP" - THN
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
From Wikipedia, "Although he was born inManitouwadge, Ontario, he grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which is often incorrectly listed as his birthplace. He spent the majority of his childhood moving around between Northern Ontario, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories, before his family settled in Saskatoon, which he considers his hometown." Saskatoon is roughly the same distance from Calgary as it is to Edmonton, though Edmonton's a tiny bit closer. Looks like he was all around, though, so who knows who his childhood team was. I wonder why - A military family? I really don't see Babcock going anywhere else. The way he speaks about the team in interviews, he just seems so personally invested in many up and coming players and very happy with the organization. -
Henrik's out a month. Monster would only cover them for the game or two before his next scheduled groin pull.
-
I think this makes them drop to a wild card spot, but probably still in the playoffs. I think there's a voodoo doll somewhere in Florida, though.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
You're forgetting Franzen, though. If you bring in anyone upfront, I guarantee it knocks Jurco out of the lineup and Weiss back onto the 4th. That's enough for me to be against bringing almost anyone in up front. -
Wings-Avs alumni game speculation
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to PumpkinEscobar's topic in General
We've already seen it, though. McCarty and Lemieux giving autographs together... Osgood interviewing Roy. No one can pretend to think they're still bitter rivals. Anything that would potentially bring Fedorov back is okay by me.
