WCSF : (6) Los Angeles Cartmans vs. (1) Coach Bombay and the Quacks
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Gaborik is definitely the better player but he doesn't play center so it wouldn't have made that much sense -
Wings will buy out Tootoo, not Franzen.
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Alextricity's topic in General
They are not buying out Franzen because they believe he's a worthy asset not because they're trying to limit buyouts. -
Florida willing to trade first overall pick.

You know the Oiler want Ekblad. Possibly a Yakupov deal? or has he been too bad this year so that FLA wouldn't want him? -
Now you're just criticizing for the sake of criticizing. Of course any GM would be open to all avenues to make their team better. Also, Holland never said he would make a trade, another poster was speculating.

Franzen had some very good stretches this year. I'm not a big fan of his or anything like that, but I think it's interesting that no one wants to give him any slack given that he was out for significant time with a concussion. He still put up 41 pts in 54 games. I really don't want to start up the Hossa vs. Franzen debate, but I checked out the salary situations since others were bringing up Hossa name again. At the end of his deal in 2020-21, Hossa is going to be a 42 year old with a 5.2 million cap hit. Franzen will 40 at the end of his deal in 2019-20 with a 3.9 cap hit. Both of those deals will include a feeling of regret to some degree in the last couple of years. Draw your own conclusions for which one would be worse to be tied to. Jagr is 42 and Selanne is 43, but its rare to as effective at that age as those two and both had a cap hit of 2 million. (yes, jagr's deal had some deferred bonuses or something) -
It's always easy to say that we got in because of what happened at the end of the year, but Alfie put up points in the middle of the year and helped win games then. Alfie certainly contributed to us getting in the playoffs. the only young guys that were projected to be on the team at the beginning of the year were Tatar and Nyquist. If you want to blame older players for keeping them off look to Cleary, Sammy, or maybe Bertuzzi not Alfie.
-
Okay, you didn't make that clear in the other post.

Tendency to abstain from free agency? Last year we Alfie and Weiss as free agents. Previous year: Gustavsson, Tootoo. Also, Sammy. And we did overpay in some of these cases (22 for sure). This year should be mostly internal development. Maybe a top D or scorer from free agency, but the candidates are few.

Yes it was a joke. The full quote was something like: my daughter's in grade 12 so i'm staying in Detroit. If I'm not coaching the Wing I'll be assistant to Red Berenson - Even though I haven't talked to red about that

Didn't know where to post this, but in this article Weiss says he was battling the hernia even before game 1. This gives credence what many have said - that we haven't seen the real Weiss. http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=717174 Would be huge if he can be a big player for us next year. ...and, on the subject of older injury prone players, nobody is talking about possibly adding Gaborik. Obviously, the reticence is understandable with some of our recent experiences with signing vets. But, If we were able to sign him for a 1 year deal though, would it be a good move? If he still battles injury then it's just an excuse to bring up Mantha/Jurco (if he's sent down). Since his last injury, he's shown he's still productive: with Kings: 19GP 5-11-16 and 3G 1A in 6 playoff games so far. He's 32, only 2 years older than Moulson and Vanek, and will demand less than those two.

What Playmaker was saying was that none of Stevie Y, Feds, Dats, and Z were immediately playoff performers and scorers right away when they entered the league. It took them a couple of years to development into that within the league. You are comparing the development prior to being in the league, which, yes, was quite different for all those players. I don't buy the argument that Nyquist's development puts him in a place where he'll second guess himself more than the aforementioned players. When you say "Expectations get artificially raised and a guy ends up doing too much battling in his mind" I think that all players go through that. Gaining mental toughness is probably what made Stevie Y, Feds, Dats, and Z into playoff performers. And when you talk about facing raised expectations how about Yzerman who brought in to be a savior to our struggling franchise.

Conveniently Forgot Dekeyeser? Plus, Holland has said that the organization is building from the draft: We've had Smith grab a spot, Sproul and Oulette, Marchenko on deck. That sounds like a pretty good plan for the future

Like an incredible amount of injuries? -
Justin Bourne apparently doesn't know how to read graphs. Age 22 is clearly higher than Age 29. Am I missing something? It seems to me that would make the prime 22-29 scoring age. That would include all of Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, etc.

Why didn't they take out Andersson instead? You could still have Bert with Sheahan and Tats and just move Jurco to a different line

Who are people? -
Fezzik: We face each other as God intended. Sportsmanlike. No tricks, no weapons, skill against skill alone. Man in Black: You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

Lines/Lineup changes for Game 3 (Home game 1)?
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to wings7's topic in General
I disagree. There is physical size and the way you play. Glendening plays like a much bigger player. Our problem was getting to the front of the net and winning battles along the boards. That is Glendening's game. Keep him in -
