I will admit I like seeing Canada not playing to their ability because it's fun (at least from south of the border) to see you Canadians get all antsy in the pantsy (movie reference). We all know they have a good team (at least I hope that's the consensus), but I think everyone should be able to agree they should be a better team than we have seen so far, yes, we will see what happens in the elimination games because that's all that really matters in the end. Quite honestly I wasn't happy with the Team USA that showed up against Russia (I mean we won [ugh, shootouts], but were outplayed a good portion of the game and were genuinely sloppy) and especially against Slovenia. It's almost like USA mailed it in after Kessel's first two.

Of course, we won't! That's why they play the games and why we watch. You implied it when you said, "We'll see who the best teams are once being eliminated is a possible outcome." As if, with the absence of elimination as an outcome, the game doesn't matter. I also didn't mean to single you out, you were just one of the most recent posts, there are a lot of posts I've wanted to reply to but by the time I get to seeing the recorded games are buried 5-10 pages back. A majority of Canadians have discredited the USA though.

Yeah, they showed the hit yesterday during the US/Slovenia game. It was a Slovenian, and he was still playing.

Based on the way the teams have played, would you disagree? I wouldn't say "no problem", but Team USA can certainly beat Canada, just as Team Canada can certainly beat Team USA. Team USA has room to improve (and needs to) but even you said yourself "it's just the RR games", to me, that's an attempt to justify sub par play on the part of Team Canada. Everyone should be just as pissed about that as they are at Franzen for air-mailing the regular season. The games DO matter. I agree there is a difference (see: USA beating Canada in RR in 2010), but Canada's play is not exactly confidence building, which is why Flashy is having to defend Team Canada against even Canadians. Because it's true.

If you guys want to know why people want Canada to lose at hockey, just read this thread. The entitlement runs deep. I've read several posts that have already awarded Canada gold so I don't even know why they're still playing the games since nobody else even has a chance. Talk about rose-coloured glasses. I'm with LeftWinger, I want Canada to lose every chance they get, BECAUSE of the entitlement. Having said that, I definitely want to play Canada in this tournament so I can see the maple tears fall from the heavens (and so there are no excuses). I'd prefer it was for gold, but I'll take a ticket to the gold on their backs. The US can win this and so can Canada, but they play the games for a reason.

So I was thinking, does anyone think Shattenkirk will ever be captain, so people can refer to him as Captain Kirk? Would it be appropriate none the less?

Except the prelims determine if and where you are seeded in the elimination rounds, including byes. Easier start = better seed and potentially less games. The slack you speak of is an advantage. If you slack off against a good team you could blow your chance at gold or a medal. If Canada played the game they played against Norway, against USA, Russia or Sweden they would have gotten smoked.

NBCOlympics.com is streaming the games and you can rewind to the beginning. Alternately, I believe they have iPhone/Android apps for streaming as well. So long as you have a cable subscription you should be alright. That's awesome. I'm sure we would have more of that if all the USA games were not prior to 8AM. At least Sat/Sun will be easy. DVR, wake up, watch.

Bunch of Susans in here. If Z got hurt in game 1 of the Olympics, you can bet your ass he would have gotten hurt in the next Wings' game. It's not like it was a specific incident, we are all aware of his back woes. Pavs is another story, but I'm not even going to judge him right now. He's a grown ass man and can make his own decisions where he wants to play. I know it's a close race, but it sounds like most of you forgot if the playoffs started today, we'd be in. And I consider our season success so far less than stellar. The kids are here to stay and we finally have executive buy-in on that. Expect a push post-Olympics.

I'm stoked about USA. We've got a solid squad and a real chance at gold.

I normally get a crowd going in my office, game was too early today though. Had a few people step in during the Canada/Norway game. I set it up on a separate monitor on my side desk. Our content filtering blocked the NBC stream due to video sharing...but I am the sysadmin so the power to get around it lies in my hands. Heh.
