And nobody knows whats going on. Everyone is calling Lawless out and nothing new yet...so I'd take it with a grain of salt until more details emerge.

Official 2014 Olympic Hockey Thread (Admin warning #316)
rrasco replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
So it's nice of NBC to be streaming the games online and all, but their timing for taking commercial breaks is horrendous. They take a break on every replay and I didn't even see the end of this game. Get your s*** together NBC. -
I find that all too often. People come up to me and say something like, "I see you guys lost another guy" and it turns out the national media is just reporting a roster move the Wings made, like actually putting someone on IR to make space although they had been out for days or weeks already.

People are definitely not happy. -
Effin awesome. Ours guys are going to come back from this tourney on one leg.

They have not even played a game yet. This is where the entitlement gets old. You do realize USA actually beat Canada 5-3 in the prelims that year...I realize they lost the game that counted, but it shows Canada is not unbeatable by any means.

I don't think the whistle affected the play, but by the rulebook it shouldn't have counted. Which begs the question, does intent to blow exist in IIHF? -
NHL players will not participate in 2018 Olympics (Mod Post #99)
rrasco replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
Contracts have stipulations. Athletes do not have to sign these contracts. When they do, they agree to the terms, which in some cases limit the extracurricular activities the athlete can participate in. Calling the players slaves and going into a tangent about pharmaceuticals and what's wrong with this country have nothing to do with each other. In another forum I would agree with most of your assertions, but that's not here nor are they related to NHL contracts prohibiting players from participating in the Olympics if the owners so choose. Calling that ignorance is, well, ignorant. Fans don't pay player salaries. You don't pay taxes to the NHL. Did you write a check to Mr. Zetterberg this morning? You might buy their product, which is then turned into revenue and used to pay for hockey resources, but then it's not your money anymore is it? Welcome to capitalism 101. And you don't have a right to hockey when and where you want it. -

I can honestly say I've been itching for these Olympics since 2010. 2010 was freaking exciting...even though my team lost and the-one-who-shall-not-be-named scored the GWG. Anybody but him please. I watched the games at work and acted like I was at home. I had a 26" monitor on my side desk. People were coming into my office watching the games with me...talking hockey, at least attempting to converse about it. In a little old office, in South Texas. Ha, it was madness. My point being...it definitely gets people interested in hockey, even if only for the time being. It's a seed. And it's effin awesome. -
Okay, that's cringe-worthy.

I can't argue with that, but I do believe most people are under the impression the two week break actually costs them money somehow. -

I agree with your injury theory, but how does the Olympics cost the owners money? -

Still disproves the CBA bargaining chip theory (as much as I believe Bettman would do that). -

That would be one possible hypothesis, if the current CBA didn't run through the next two Winter Olympics after Sochi. -
I thought he was hurt. Hopefully the Wings just put him on LTIR and be done with it. When he says he's better, they look sternly at him and with a stiff upper lip say, "No, you're still hurt."

What makes people think an Olympic clause is even possible? If the NHL says no, the NHL says no. You don't have to like it. You can go AWOL at the risk of having your IIHF card revoked and then you can't play anywhere. -
Flip fractured his ankle huh? That's a bummer

Number one rule for ANY Wings game in ANY venue is scream LETS GO RED WINGS as loud as you possibly can. If you have a voice at the end of the night, you did it wrong! Have fun and Go Wings!
-
Ha. That's awesome. Can I formally request that some of those terms be defined?

There was actually a commercial series I remember seeing in the last few years about being able to identify someone having a stroke. I don't remember if this was it, but it is similar and has a URL where you can learn more about identifying strokes. http://www.ispot.tv/ad/7tHc/american-heart-association-spot-a-stroke

I was waiting for tonight to watch it with the rest of the censored world.

Wow. That's terrifying.
