No way Cleary can re-sign. Even if they amnesty Sammy, that still leaves us with 14 forwards assuming we re-sign Nyquist, Andersson, and Brunner. They could waive, amnesty, or trade Emmy to make room for Cleary....but why on Earth would you make room for Cleary. This is of course also banking on Helm being healthy next year as well. I'm not so sure they are 100% convinced about that yet. -

It probably didn't help that they lost Almquist in the first. They weathered the storm and banked a good win over an aggressive and frustrated Crunch team. -

I think you would be surprised with some of the stuff that can make it's way into a contract. People are willing to give up all kinds of things when you offer them $5 million dollars a year.

Only if he retires early. Because the cap hits are averaged over the term of the contract, the Blackhawks would have had a benefit that they were paying him more actual dollars than were counting against the cap. I don't know exactly how this part is calculated, but the key parts are bolded. It's the cap benefit to the team they have to keep in their books as a 'penalty' for an early retirement.

I was going to touch on this, I've never heard a specific case in regards to hockey, but many athletic contracts limit the player's freedom to do things outside of the sport as well, for example, not being allowed to ride a motorcycle. Think about Roethlisberger...he almost ended his career because of a motorcycle accident IIRC. This is just another aspect of teams protecting their assets.

Great to see the Griffins making some noise. I was watching the game and had to leave towards the end of the 2nd when it was 3-2. Looks like I missed a very good end to the game. Looking forward to the finals.

To those against this....do you think players should be allowed to choose whether they wear a helmet as well?

Horrible. At least they got away from black, I don't like black jerseys in hockey for video review reasons it's too hard to see the puck against them.

I saw this link on NHL.com today, I clicked it, then I remembered I didn't care. I don't think it can be much of a ripoff of Team Canada's jersey, it's not like they are very imaginative to begin with. Had I not known, I would have never guessed they changed anything.
