Babs: " ....the players decide who plays, not me...."
evilzyme replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
It's all those coaching books he read during the 2010-2011 offseason before bringing in Bill Peters and Jeff Blashill! All those crazy ideas he was talking about. -
So you're going to immediately say the guy can't work the point. Obviously Brunner is a better selection on the point.... Dude stop, just stop. The guy can produce on the powerplay, he can produce even strength. All of this hate isn't warranted, it's just stupid. He is a forward playing on the point, that means he can push it forward and rotate with the winger lower, it allows him to get down, and the lower forward to rotate up. He starts at the point because of his right hand, but he certainly doesn't need to "snipe" shots from the point. He needs to get them down low and for the forwards to cause havok and clean up. Nope, we don't like seasoned veterans with proven season point totals. Dude plays 3 games with his return to Detroit, 2 games in the beginning of a shortened season and 1 game when he comes back from the injury. We don't even know how he looks currently within our system right now.

3 seasons with the wings: 34/40/40PTS, 17 PP goals with the Wings. 34 PTS within the playoffs. Following him to get even better with the Canucks with 50/53PT seasons, and then finally with Florida 48gp 28pts. Playoffs with both teams he produced, brought PP production. I'm not saying the man is Nick Lidstrom by any means, but to say his right shot given our current situation isn't going to help, is simply stupid. And to save you some trouble, cause i'm sure that stupid remark at the end was directed towards me, i've been watching this lovely team for over 2 decades, i'll pass on the kiddy remarks/comments.

I'll try to dissect this. Abby, Eaves, and Miller haven't been pulling their contract weight? Abby (4th line center) 1.8m this season, while filling in on the top 6 while we're injured as hell. Works on the forecheck, tries to disrupt to corners, and is one of the only people that can win a puck battle and get it back to the D on the powerplay. Previous seasons of 19pts/22pts for a 4th line center. Certainly isn't pulling his weight.... Eaves (4th line winger) 1.2m this season, coming off of an injury that held him sidelined for a year. Comes back, and fits in good. Works the forecheck, can work as an energetic winger and one of our BEST penalty killers. Previous seasons of 26pts/14pts. Certainly isn't pulling his weight.... Miller (4th line winger) 837,500 this season. Outstanding penalty killer, role player, and occasionally pots em. Previous seasons of 19pts/18pts/25pts with an upward trajectory. Certainly isn't pulling his weight So you're telling me you would roll out under 4m within 3 outstanding role players and just let them crawl away to waivers... thank GOD you're not GM of ANY team. Next point with the East. Stiffer competition? What the HELL? Where have you been? The West has been dominate of the East. We have closer playoff races, the point totals are closer, the skill level is elevated. The West is the rougher conference, and we'll be moving to the East that will cut travel down significantly. So magically, going to an weaker conference and getting less travel is going to equate to stiffer competition? Just doesn't add up.

3:10 played vs. STL (0-6 L) 4 penalties against STL 8 PIM 2:58 played vs. CBJ (4-3 W/SO) LEAST AMOUNT OF PP TIME UNDER QUINCEY (1:03), 3 full PP, with 9 total (others got cut short 4 on 4 by our penalties) WHO PLAYED MORE? Cleary, Datsuk, White, Brunner, Colaiacovo, Zett, Filp, Kronner, Mule 2:29 played vs. MIN (2-3 L/SO) LEAST AMOUNT OF PP UNDER TATAR, ANDERSSON, FILP, 2 full PP ( this is when our PP needed the most help and babcock played him the most relying on his shot) He's played soooooooooooooooooo much, amirite? Babcock needs to give other guys some time man! In all serious, he brings veteran appeal, can work the point confidently, can shoot the puck and can finish. Oh, did I forget to mention he's good defensively? You seem like you're just following the collectivism of some posters on here, and haven't actually seen this man play. What's that? People are calling him logo? People are making fun of his shot? OKAY! I'll jump board! Actually watch him, analyze him without prior bias, and i'm sure he can change your opinion.

None the less, the secondary injury was due to Ian White's slap shot hitting his wrist/hand in practice. Yep, Sammy's the devil!

andddd someone just proved they haven't watched red wings hockey this season. "ALL the time?" when the hell did and has this gone down? He's played in 3 games and has 1 point (14:17, 12:28, 15:37 ice times). He has a grand total of 3 shots on goal. So out of the 26 games we've played, he's played in 3.... cranking him up to 08.6% of our games played. So how is it, a guy who has only played 8.6% of our TOTAL games magically getting special treatment by Mike Babcock? Lol...... BABCOCK STOP PLAYING SAMMY!

Seems like Babcock was looking out for Tatar more than hurting him.
-
I wouldn't say he's out of this world better, but I do find him to be the better defensive player between the two. I think when it comes down to it, they're looking at the point leader in the AHL. Someone who has been producing and playing well, who needs to provide the spark. Tatar came up, and provided that spark. Now, we need Nyquist to do the same thing and start that same spark. They're simply hoping for more offense from Nyquist than Tatar has been providing recently.
-
The sad part is, Tatar may have done it to himself, and part fault the franchise. Nyquist failed HARD working with the bottom 6 last season, but did produce while with the top 6. They know Nyquist can't excel at the bottom 6 level, and he needs the support in the top 6 to make him worthy. Tatar has shown that he can run with other teams 3rd/4th lines, and produce while doing so. Tatar also had to make this showing his best, because otherwise, he would be most likely dealt without a second look back. Iffy situation, but workings of different people.

You need a group of young and old. Talent and role players. You can't keep injecting youth into your system prospect wise and hope for the best. Franchises have tried it, and failed. Look at Edmonton; they have some of the most talented youngsters around, but it doesn't matter because they have no EXPERIENCE. You need veterans to fall back on. In this day and age of NHL hockey, you need speed and size, size being VERY important. Look at all the bigger teams that simply man handle our forecheck simply because of their size compared to ours? We can't even break a box. Tatar is better than Abby defensively? Well besides that being a strong statement, we're looking for offense right now, not defense. So I guess you also agree with Babcock's move.

I'm not a resident expert in brothers that played the sport together, but I know a handful of them. To me, it seems like brothers, kids, etc never seem to play the same position. So, while we may want or think Lidstroms kid's are going to be outstanding, they may not even be good at defense, but excel at forward.

Injured Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*

OH LORDY LORDY I LOVE IT -
You guys are so butthurt it's uncanny, all you had to do is read the article to find the reasoning;
-
It destroys the bodies of players to have to play numerous overtimes. I just couldn't imagine it being put within the standards ever during the regular season, they'd go back to ties before that. Fatigue would be out of this WORLD. This thread made me think of that girls junior team that played for damn near like 8 hours of play and overtime, and then had to play another game in the tournament like 2 hours after that one ended.
-
It's been discussed on here, and actually fairly recently but I can't find what the title of the thread was. The mutual agreement was a.) trying to find a way to even get one of his sons here without getting through the draft and b.) to understand that they aren't going to be a product of their dad within hockey, they won't be as good as their dad... as they are their own players. So, not to rain on your parade because I would find it amazing to have a product of the Yzerman and Lidstrom genes, but no. lol.

If he's in the same house as Tatar, maybe a full 30 second shift. Babcock has something with Tatar...
-
That's retarded. That third line is going to be sluggish and not really a workload for other teams. Andersson and Abby can make some space, but who's gonna work it? Clears? Second line looks awesome if Mule actually works tonight. Pasha and Nyquist will be good together. First line was working really good, but in reality i'd like to see Mule pushed back with the first line and Filp working with Pasha and Nyquist, although that line may be too soft.
-
We have zero idea how the conversation or things go in the office or front office. Tatar easily could've gotten the best explanation, has no hard feelings, and can't wait to get back to the show. We as fans, always have the luxury of looking in from the outside, which we just make up our own assumptions which 75% of the time, they're negative and unwarranted.
-
We knew Holland wanted to call-up Nyquist, but at the expense of Tatar is rough. I may be in the minority here, but ever since he got RAILED like a week ago or something, he just hasn't looked the same to me. He can still hold on to the puck, and make a decent play, but I think his play overall went down, or started to decline after that huge hit. I wish I remembered who landed it.... I think we simply had to move Tatar back to GR because of our roster space. Tatar is a winger who is easier to move than Andersson who is centering. We need our centers more than our wingers right now.

I just hate the principle of the loser point. Why should you get a point, if you lost? You don't deserve it. Anyways, I always thought this would be a fun spin on the point system: 2 points win 1 point OT/SO win 0 points lose Immediately you would want to come down my throat saying well, what's the difference in winning in overtime and winning in regulation? well, just that! it took you extra time to win the game, so you don't get the full 2 points. I think this system would bring more excitement out of games also. Nowadays, we see the 2 minutes left in the 3rd period grind fest where both teams just want to get the point. Not anymore, those 2 minutes would be a fest trying to get the 2 points instead of possible 1/0. So you force it upon teams to strive to win in regulation, because if they do drag it out to overtime, they're risking a point or possible two.

Damn I never knew that, just the two hockey brothers. Insane that some families just have that much athleticism in their genes
