Chicago was the first team that i've seen actually dedicate some work towards Brunner. They knew he was a new element and they knew that he is new to the ice size and what not. Last night you could see, they would box out majority of our players, but when Brunner had the puck, they immediately started to close the gap and play more body on body. They wanted to throw him off and not give him that space. What i'm personally amazed at, is how little space he needs to actually close off a shot. Zetterberg fed him within the slot, while damn near 3 hawks were on him, and yet he still got the shot off with 3 sticks within his space. He certainly doesn't want to play physical, nor is he expected, and you can see it's from playing in Europe. He'd rather skate off than finish a check. While all of this is great, this is exactly why we bring in players like tootoo. If people want to run your stars, you let them know real quickly it isn't going to be accepted. We just need some people willing to throw em down, make a huge hit, and let people know there WILL be repercussions.

That's the thing, he doesn't want out of Montreal. He and the franchise would've already been moving if they didn't see a mutual relationship that wanted to be retained. In all of his interviews, he praises Montreal and says that he wants nothing more than to stay with the club. He just thinks he rates more than he actually does.

what's interesting is that the world knows that they're off on term years. subban wants a long term contract, while the club wants a 2 yr. yes, they're off my the millions but it's not that bad. from the start it's always been a term problem. what would be VERY interesting is if teams did throw offer sheets subbans way. would be sign one that contained a 5 yr contract? would he force the hand of montreal? in all honesty, i don't see him forcing anything because montreal already showed that they would start the season without him. they aren't budging, he's the one that isn't playing while the rest of the league is. normally when it comes to offer sheets, i would immediately say it's a bad idea because they would match asap, but it would be real interesting to see what montreal would do when an offer sheet came in regarding a 5 yr contract.

We don't have enough assets that would allow us to try and get him. We would burn another hole, while trying to patch the original. Unfortunately. He would HATE Detroit.
-
He fed him, but Zetty fed Pasha which means the whole original first line out there. They haven't straight up split Zett and Brunner together, which was my point. Now stop being so technical!
-
when was this? I saw brun with zett the whole time with pasha rolling on the 2nd with filp? never actually saw brunner start a line with pasha out there. i'll go check game center and see if i can spot it throughout the 3rd That was the beauty of Scotty Bowman.

They aren't going to split Zetter and Brunner, they specifically made Zetty go over there to make chemistry with the man. They frickin live together ffs, they aren't going to get changed. It's one of the few duo's that actually have chemistry within this team, in a shortened season where chemistry is going to be hard to build. Eventually people will mesh together, but you don't eliminate the only actual chemistry you have to go try and "build some different" chemistry. If we had more people working together, we could afford to try Brunner and Zett seperate, but right now, hell no. Pavel and Filp will be great together, and Bert will be there to help both of them out. Bert and Pasha can create the space, filp can use it. He can find the open areas and exploit them, he's damn good at doing so, he just needs someone that can carry the puck for extended amounts of time. Mule better get motivated here soon, he's playing in the one spot that gets him the goals he always gets. Dirty ones. Franzen is, and never will be our sniper. He wasn't brought into Detroit to be a sniper, he came in here to be a power forward. I don't know how many damn times I have to keep bringing this up, we NEVER expected Franzen to be some sniping sure shot. His role changed, and now he thinks he doesn't need to use his body and just rely on his shot. Well mule, that'd be cool and all, if you actually had a shot to rely on. The dude needs someone down his ass to motivate him, he's just one of those personalities.

On a more serious note the Sharks are beating the Oil 6-1 after the 1s

"No wonder the Oilers lost so bad yesterday. They got their zone exit strategy from the Mighty Ducks." from reddit haha -
Good for them. Shiny young players with a shiny new arena.

Franzen should have been at Tae Bo class during the lockout

I knifehand'ed my television so hard when he got knocked down and just laid like a dead fish for 30 seconds. I couldn't contain myself, I just wanted to destroy him. To display that type of stuff on a home opener, after all of your bulls***ty quotes we've heard for the past 2 seasons.. mule.. you don't even RATE that name. You're absolutely no work horse, you don't even have heart. /vent /rant /imdone #hashtag -
PuckDaddy just released this article; http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/khl-invents-playoff-losers-bracket-winner-gets-no-141549610--nhl.html it goes to explain that the KHL developed a new system, basically the teams that don't make the playoffs, will play a tournament in playoff format. It will be called the "Cup of Hope" inwhich the team to win the tournament, will receive the first round draft pick. Personally, I think it's a fresh idea, and it does help teams that need it. Unfortunately, there is pros and cons of it. I can personally think that it would get rid of the idea of tanking. Teams wouldn't be so worked to finish #30 for that first overall pick. From another stand point, you would allow the better of those teams, to improve even more. In the end, I think it's an awesome idea. In reality, you're giving the #1 overall draft pick to a team that is basically a bubble team. If they win the tournament, they get the draft pick which will most likely send them into the playoffs. I could see teams being stuck in what seems a worm hole though, always not making the playoffs, and losing within the first round in that tournament.

I got nervous that they were boo'ing tootoo and it seriously made me pissed. i kept asking my girlfriend if they were going "boooooo" or saying "toooooooooooooooooooooooo". Then I got scared when Zetty went and split the line and stood next to him, like maybe he wanted to make him feel better. All was normal when he laid the big first hit and the crowd went, "tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

Hey, don't worry, we'll get Helmer, Bert and Kindl back on Friday! Unfortunately, the trend shows that once we get Helmer back on Friday, we'll also lose him! Outstanding!

It wasn't a hot goaltender, it was that we gave him the confidence he needed at the end. When you throw non-stop perimeter shots that are easy to stop, you give the goalie time to gain confidence, once he has that confidence set in he'll get into the zone. Once a goalie is within that zone, it's bad news. I can't judge this team until we aren't so damn deep with injuries, but tonight was frustrating. I'm sick of missing the heart, missing the motivation. Our top 6 looks stale, they don't look like they want to win. I practically just want to say, when it becomes that time, you need to switch up the top 6 and make it fresh. When people get used to their jobs, they become complacent, last thing we need right now. Franzen laying on the ice for a solid 30 seconds was the last call for me, I wanted to haze the living *swear word* out of his body. Without being too stupid, because I hate over-reacting to situations like this, but if theres 2 things I want to take away from this it's this; (a) Babcock is an amazing coach, but he needs the players to make this happen. He needs the motivated players that will listen to him, and will execute. It seems like this team needs another Bowman, someone who will get down their throat, who won't let complacency set in. Unfortunately, I feel like Babcock is trying to calm them down too much. Yeah, don't get them scared and un-motivated that they can't accomplish anything, but reminding them that "oh, well next game will be better" isn't the answer. Someone needs to get down some throats and get some motivation out of these players. I'd be hazing some bodies if I have some asshats under my command like this. (b) we're injured like no other. 2/3 of our star 3rd line is out, we're missing 2 our of defensemen. Kent Huskins played good tonight, sadly him and lashoff worked the most. We need the basics right now, seriously boys, THE BASICS. Stop trying to be better than you are, stick with the basics and good things will happen. Once you establish the basics, you can move on to bigger and better things.

franzen just chilling laying down in the crease, that's always effective.

Oh hey, Babs is finally changing up lines, you don't say eh?
-
Jesus Emmerton... i know you're a natural winger but ffs, you're playing center, you do NOT leave that slot if you're the only man there. golly boys, BASIC HOCKEY STUFF HERE

if i could only go back in time and show ken holland how much of a screw up it would be to choose mule over hossa. god it just hurts to see these two compared to one another. one won't touch the puck or put in any effort to get one if it isn't directly within 1 foot of them, while the over will rip faces back to get to a free puck. jesus...

"we're going to make embellishment one of our main priorities this upcoming season" - NHL, -_______________________-

no he looks absolutely slow, it seems like he doesn't have his legs on him right now but what can we expect. he sounded absolutely winded there on the interview. everyone needs to realize, we didn't develop smith into this defensive defensemen who plays outstanding defense. we developed him into a poised puck moving defensemen. he has outstanding offensive capabilities but his defensive play has always been sloppy.
-
my first impressions of kent huskins: i love him so far, real stay at home defensemen. he's playing it real safe, and at this time, that's what we need. we won't even let someone be the last man back, he'll rotate back around them if they try breaking out. i like him.
-
we need to go back to the basics. we're trying too hard to make creative things happen, when we aren't in the groove yet. nyquist is out there trying to spin-o-rama pass and s***, bud come on, basics. i think that's why lashoff excelled so much last night, we're forgetting the basics and he's playing the basics. he's sticking to the safe plays, he's not forcing the pass, he'll throw it up the boards if he doesn't feel comfortable.
-
i never knew what the tootoo whistle was, but if it's going "tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" when he was introduced and his first hit, then yes, we do the tootoo whistle.
-
it doesn't matter because we're not even shooting for rebounds. we're shooting into the chest. that doesn't develop the chances for clean up and dirty goals, throw it down low if you want to get dirty with them.

god, we've heard this way too many times on red wings live and wingspan. 10 GAME SEGMENTS 10 GAME SEGMENTS
