That doesn't exactly make sense though. If the Red Wings don't need to fill roster spots, then they don't need to bring in guys. If you don't need to fill roster spots, especially when your roster is filled upfront, you don't need that cap space for "other guys." All that money really has a purpose for is call-ups in case of injury or something unlikely scenario. You don't really spare cap space in order to stack it with trade value in order to bag some more talent, especially when your roster is full. But that's my 2 cents in reality.

Emmerton isn't a bad player, but he doesn't fit in our system at the moment. I think everyone can agree to that standard. Like in similar cases, some players just need to be in another system with another franchise, aka Ville Leino. His role just isn't needed within the bottom six because we have an influx of players that can mimic him. He basically just falls too far into the depth charts. In another franchise he could be that perfect 3rd liner, someone that really needs a bottom 6 playmaker. Unfortunately, we do not.

Illitch announces plan to build new arena

While building an arena that sized in the location it is, the city will most likely push for them to get this thing done asap to attract the population to spend money in a much needed market (downtown). Detroit is going through some rough times right now, and the city is basically bankrupt. This arena could really start to motivate and accelerate the market of downtown. I know the building process is going to take awhile, but I certainly think the city will be pushing for them to get this thing done asap.

It'll be called Amway something. Every time you see the red wings name it's always Detroit Red Wings Presented by Amway! Seriously, we look so frickin dumb.

Illitch announces plan to build new arena

Besides memories being my main opponent against a new arena, even though I know we need a new one, is the viewpoints of the Joe. No arena can match the viewpoints of the Joe and how perfect every seat honestly can see the ice. I never once complained about sitting in the upper bowl (not that I would in the first place, put me anywhere near live hockey and i'm sold) at the Joe and never would. The seats up top are just as good as the lower bowl strictly because there's nothing blocking your view of the ice. The one thing I could do without... is the trouths

Haven't heard anything recent about this! Glad to see it's still in the works... I know previously they said they were looking to change the aspect of multimedia within the arena with technology. Like new technology that allowed you to view the big screen via your cell phone and save highlights directly to your phone from it. I'll probably be butthurt for awhile once it does get built... it'll be hard leaving the Joe. So many childhood memories with my dad....

Jordin Tootoo; Cory Emmerton; First thing I see when I look at this, wow look at that they play for two completely different teams. This apparently went far over your head, as you tried comparing and making an argument that concerned two different franchises, two different rosters, and two different general managers and coaches. Somehow, you think you can argue if one player doesn't play for one roster.. he magically automatically couldn't play for another roster. I'm not even sure what the hell you were trying to get across there, but it was plain dumb. Now, back to this point you were trying to get across? I see 71 games played from the next all-star formerly known as Dany Heatly... I mean Cory Emmerton with a productive season gaining 10 points (6G/4A). Now, I look at Mr.Tootoo whom apparently shouldn't have any recorded stats because he didn't play for the Nashville Predators. He has in a recorded 77 games, a productive point total of 30 points (6G/24A). Well my friend, i'm certainly not a resident expert of math, nor do I wish to be one, but I sure as hell know that Mr.Tootoo dished over 20 more assist than Mr.Emmerton and got the same amount of goals. So somehow, we require yet again another left handed shot, a basic 4th liner whom would've went down to the minors if it wasn't for losing him to waivers, because he "does his role." I'm sorry, but I just can't see how you could ever argue Emmerton's worth over Tootoo's at this point and time in the franchise. We need a rough and tough banger, we need more right handed shots, we don't NEED more passers but he can bring more than Emmerton can, and we need someone who will stink eye someone if they try and pull some s*** with our top 6. Maybe Emmerton will develop into something... but he's already 24 and showing no drastic worth. In forward terms, he should be in his prime or damn near it.

Comparing midseason injuries to off-season roster changes is an absolute joke. Yes, we had a downward spiral last season when Nicky got hurt but that's expected when your #1 D man goes down mid season... whom are you going to replace him with? The magical lockdown defensemen you've been hiding in your closet all season? Off-season roster changes happen and players get the time to adjust to systems during training camp. Apples to oranges my friend.
  11. Good showing at the worlds, lightning quick, has beautiful reflexes. It's just really hard to predict the development or how a goalie will translate to the big show. He has the skillset to get far, especially when given a qualified expert goalie coach who will really dial in his game. One thing I picked out from your article right from the beginning was, " You gotta add in the "There's a saying that people often say, "<quote"

The Kings weren't steamrolling everything all the way to the cup. They certainly struggled in the regular season and had to change up their system to be successful. They also rode a VERY hot goalie that could change a game all by himself. Not every team has a big, mobile, destructive defense so we can't pretend that's all that exist in the NHL nowadays. Are teams getting bigger and are players harder to play against? Absolutely, but let's not make it out to seem like all 29 teams are going to be wiping us up and down the floor with their giant defense. Now, as much as I don't like our defense, I think many are underestimating what we have in our hand. We got rid of Hudler and Emmerton and replaced them with Sammy, Brunner, and Tootoo. I like this. We took someone whom can produce, but is horrible at backchecking and has no size. We added someone whom loves to miss the net, but can actually backcheck and will be in position more than what Hudler was ever capable of. Brunner brings more speed to the team, and in todays NHL speed can and will kill. Emmerton didn't do s*** last season, and if it wasn't for losing him to waivers we probably would've thrown him back into the system in Grand Rapids. Tootoo brings much needed size, with added production over Emmerton. Brunner is going to be the risk, but he's already working with Zetterberg. They're destroying it over there, and getting much needed confidence. This will translate back in America (their confidence and chemistry, brunner will still have to convert over to smaller ice). As much as our defense goes, yes we lost Lidstrom but we didn't lose Lidstrom in his prime or in 2008/9. We lost a 2012 Lidstrom. As much as it hurts to say, you could see his game starting to decline and mistakes were being made, someone unheard of and out of character for the non-human defensemen and captain. We added Carlo, to take over for Kindl. Ericsson has been improving, regardless of how much we hate him or not, each and every season. He will have more roles added to him now with the diminished core. To the people to say he is worthless and sucks, look at how much our PK hurt when he was gone. Even Mike Babcock himself made the notion on how much he missed his presence. It's the small things gents, and they add up. We may not have the big names, or the superstars filling our lineups but all of this stuff tweaks an already solid lineup. Players will need to step up, and they will make mistakes, but we're not in that big of a hole as everyone wants to make it out to be.

Another solid reason to hate on Cindy Crosby

Well, a big problem with all of this was that he was wrongly diagnosed. He didn't have a concussion but rather problems with his neck that was causing the symptoms of concussion (IIRC). When we think of him having a concussion, ofcourse the media is going to say, "He came back because it was his duty to play hockey damnit! Look at that toughness, I can see his balls from space." When we found out that it wasn't just a concussion from hits, then it became a little more serious and it's currently more serious. I think his reputation stems from his immaturity when first coming into the league, and the fact that he didn't earn the respect that he oh so desperately thinks he rated. Someone needed to show him the ropes on how to handle himself, on and off the ice. It's not necessarily his fault, as he was just a youngster. Over time you expect him to clean up his act, especially wearing the "C" on his shoulder, but he certainly didn't. If he did, he wouldn't have acted like a young primadonna during the Flyer series. I think the guy has some incredible skills, hell his skillset is second to none. Unfortunately, just because you're good at hockey doesn't mean i'm going to RESPECT you as a person. Once he cleans his act up and wants to act like a leader, then he'll start getting respect from me.

That's just society my man. Someone could donate and save some childs life, but still leading on the news will be either, "some drunk dude ran around on pcp and blew off a couples face." It really is the angle that sells and projects an image upon society, unfortunately all that media wants to cover is violence and bad stuff, rarely the good in society.

I worked briefly at the Joe, but we were hired through Olympia Entertainment. We did more than just Wings game's, to include all the events that took place at the Joe. While the lockout will hurt the schedules of employees, I do believe they should still have jobs and working there. I think this is an excellent idea though and if I had any cash to spare, I would be throwing it in your general direction.

Holland came out and said at the end, atleast from what I remember, that he went after Suter strictly near the end. Parise had become out of range for money, and he dropped the interest in grabbing him. He wasn't willing to spend that much money, nor tie the hands of the franchise for just two players. While they are great players, this is where GM's become good and better. There are way too many GM's nowadays that would throw the checkbook out the window for the talent, just in hopes that it improves their team regardless if it ties the hands of their franchise. The great GM's like Holland won't let this happen, and have enough knowledge to know what it causes. Do you want one championship, or the shot at 8 over the course of 8 years? I'll take the continued success everyday of the week, and twice on sunday. Too many GM's are willing to put everything forth for one championship, then they go on a firesale when players want increased salaries. Once that happens, everyone starts complaining about player salaries and the inflation. Listen, you don't have to sign the contract, you can develop a team through the draft and insert pieces where needed.

    Sheahan arrested for "superdrunk" driving

Luckily, this is how Brendan won't be receiving any punishment but it could hurt Riley even more. Obviously he got the card somehow. They can charge him with "stealing" the card from Brendan if he wants to save his buddies ass. They can charge Brendan for supplying a minor with false identification, and helping a minor indulge in alcohol. Riley could cover and say that Brendan didn't directly give him the ID, but it could possibly hurt him if they really wanted to slap him with a bunch of charges. Luckily, the franchise should have some good lawyers at their disposal or atleast good connections inwhich it won't translate nearly as bad if it had happened to one of us. Internally, the club is probably getting theirs out of Brendan.

Tatar has been lighting up the AHL with Nyquist, but it still holds the same point. I'd rather go with the latter in that situation and take the 3 players over parise that 9mil. It's just fundamentals, we didn't sign them long-term but it gives us time to allow our minors to develop properly. Rushing a player into a league that he can't compete in, is worst for the player. They won't instill the confidence they would've if they were given more time in the minors. We talk about maturity and at the same time we got one of our leaders giving out his ID for an underage to go drink at the bars (i know how it works, but it just looks bad when you're a star prospect and leader for the team. just don't get caught) and the one using it getting a second alcohol infraction, this one being a DWI @ .3. So no, as much as I wanted parise to come to us, I don't want to give him the world and everything he wants. It should be hand in hand when dealing with a franchise. They supply you with a contract and money, and you supply them with the product. Sometimes, even the most wanted product isn't worth what it cost in the end. Not saying that Parise isn't worth money, or isn't a great player, but he certainly isn't a player that you throw 9mil/yr at.

Sigh, this looks bad on Brendan also... he's a leader for the Griffs and a leading prospect looking to enter his first year of the big leagues. He supplied Riley with his ID in order to get into bars... and riley admitted to it. Man.... this is not good.

Wis was in it for the paycheck. If we would have offered 5, CBJ would've offered 6. They wanted the man, and quite frankly don't care how much they needed to pay for him. I don't think Holland has overpaid for anyone. We've seen little of Quincey, whom had to change systems within a season. We can further evaluate that situation after the next season. He also came into the system when we were on our winning streak. A lot of factors for someone to come back into to. When it comes to managing money and contracts, Holland is not the man to f with. He knows what he's doing, and quite frankly he knows a lot more than any of us could possibly imagine.

While it's good to have prospects up and getting time to develop, they can do the same in junior leagues on farm teams. It's good to have a mixture of veteran and young players. Too many young players and they won't have the experience or mentor ship to get them far. Too many veteran players and they normally will be too predictable and easy to maintain. A mixture will allow for fresh minds, while having the veterans working their magic into them. It's always been the way the franchise works and it's going to continue to be that while Holland controls the team. While I would love for some of our prospects to be in the big show currently, I understand that if you give them more time to mature, they will mature better with the game. In that sense, and i'm not sure how old you are but i'm hoping you can understand it, look back at your twenties, hell, from 18 til 22 you go through so many changes maturity wise. You see the world different, you think different, things just make more sense. If you allow for the prospects to mature, and get into that mindframe where they understand life just alittle more, they will develop better in the big leagues. Let them get the youngness out in juniors and the farm teams, let them develop, and then slowly implement them within the system with your veterans. So while you may be sick of watching "35+ year olds" (which is funny, because I believe the average age of this team like is 28ish) it's for the better of this team, and quite frankly it's been working the past two decades.
