Zetterberg leaves after 2nd Period; "upper body injury"
HelmFan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Benn should face diciplinary action for that. The league wants to cut back on hits to the head? Well, that was about as clear of intentional, dirty, hit to the head I've ever seen. -
We'll know if we're a contender after the next two weeks. It starts tonight, at home against the top team in the East. Then we start a long road trip against some tough Western Conference teams, including Chicago, San Jose, Los Angeles, Anaheim and finish it off against Nashville. The end of the trip also coincides with the trade deadline. I wonder if Ken Holland is waiting to see how this trip shakes out before deciding to "go for it" and trade assets to add a missing piece. If we come out of this trip with a solid winning record, and Kenny brings in some top tier defence I will be booking holiday time in late May.

If Zetterberg leads the Wings to a few more cups, then maybe. But that's a pretty big "if" and "maybe" Currently, there is no one else even close. I'm going to go with Mrazek as my outside chance, dark horse pick.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Jurco, Sheahan and a first should get us Yandle and Hanzal. -
Really tight checking game. Not a lot of space for either team. There was a lot of sloppy passing and turnovers by both teams. Again, Detroit seemed to get most of the "puck luck". What happened to Abby? Did anyone catch the CBC announcer say that Babcock put Jurco out with Z and Dats near the end of the game because he was good defensively? lol

I was thinking the exact same thing.

10/31 GDT : Los Angeles Kings (2) at Red Wings (5), 7:30 EST

We looked like the 2008 Wings for the first time in a long long time. -
I can not believe I didn't see Nyquist on the power play in OT.
-
If there's four more expansion teams I might be able to make the NHL. Vegas is pretty close to California. ( a hockey hot-bed) Is there a chance Vegas gets some spill over fans from Cali? ( Much like Buffalo does from Toronto.)

After the Wings, I usually cheer for the Canadian teams. Plus it's possible for the Wings to play against an original six team in every round: 1st: Boston 2nd: Montreal 3rd: New York Final: Chicago How cool would that be?
-
I didnt' vote. Glendening has outplayed them both. My guess is that Glendening will be our 4th line center for the playoffs. (assuming our slotted top 3 centers are healthy and playing to their potential)

The return should be similar to the Jaromir Jagr to Boston trade. Dallas got a 2nd rounder and two prospects. Boston got a 41 year old with 26 points in 34 games. For the record, I don think it will happen. It could, though, if Alfie asks for it.

your post was #43. awesome timing!

anyone from western Canada confirm that this on CBC? My tv guide is saying that I'm getting Montreal/Colorado

Franzen's the only one too lazy not to put on a tie, do up his collar.
-
That headline is misleading. The actual headline is " Wings receive good news on Helm; Kronwall to return on Wednesday"
-
This needs to be quoted again. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but I can't believe people try to justify Franzen's bad attitude/laziness. It really makes think that these people don't actually watch the games and just check the score sheet in the morning.
-
Then he needs to watch some game tape.
-
WTF!! if you're not a goal scorer, then what are you? he's not a skater, he's not a checker, he's not a grinder, he's not a set-up man, he's not a net front man. Now he's telling us that he's not going to score goals. He's a big lazy ***** who got his payday. that's it. What a waste. I can't imagine he will be in the top 6 much longer. It won't be long before Nyquist or Tatar takes his spot. and you know what? Franzen won't care. He'll be happy that he gets less ice time. lazy, lazy, lazy. So much potential. such a frustrating waste. /end rant
-
might not be the "heart and soul" but he's definitely the MVP of the bottom 6. He carries them like Datsyuk carries the top 6.
-
The East should be crapping their pants. We were one goal away from the eliminating the Stanley cup champs. Now we're adding Alfie, Weiss, Helm, Dekeyser, Bertuzzi, Samuelsson and a more seasoned Nyquist, Tatar,Anderson and Smith. older? yes. but the lack of travel will take a few years off of the Vets and they will all look rejuvenated because of it. This will be the year we turn our power play around; it will be our enforcer again. (it won't be as great as 2008, but it'll be a heck of lot better than the last few years) BOLD PREDICTION: within a few years the East teams will start adapting to us, and people will be wondering why the whole league is now playing a "west conference" style game.

I check in here everyday to make sure that Cleary hasn't signed with the Wings. I'm not interested in watching Tootoo play, either. I hope that neither of these guys are on the roster come October.
-
Pretty much this.. but we do have Zetterberg under contract for 8 more years. If he can captain the wings to a few more cups, he could assure himself a spot in the rafters.

Signed Wings sign forward Luke Glendening to 1-year, 2-way

I doubt that Franzen is reading the forum today. -
Why did the Islanders have the 3rd overall pick? wasn't this during their dynasty years? seems odd.
