I'm not sure what you expected Kenny to do today. When Paul freakin' Gaustad goes for a 1st round pick you know the prices are extremely high. Guys like Franzen, Filppula and Hudler provide way more value to the team than they have trade value so I doubt any of them will be traded anytime soon. We also have a bunch of good prospects coming up that may shore up some of the weaknesses without mortgaging the team's future. This may not be the year for the Wings to go all the way, but regardless they will still contend for the Cup. The reason the Wings have been able to stay so good for so long is because they make smart deals and they generally don't overpay for players.

IMO there are some similarities between Filppula and Slava Kozlov. Kenny used Kozlov as part of a package to bring in a world class goalie. Maybe he could do the same with Flip to bring in a world class sniper. I know the comparison is a bit of a stretch, but it could work. Flip is having a career year and has some trade value.

I know a lot of posters will disagree with me, but I really don't see the logic in playing Commodore over Kindl on a regular basis. Kindl needs to play more in order to get better. Commodore has very limited upside whereas Kindl can actually contribute and make a difference. I know we need "added toughness" and that's what Commie brings but this may be at the cost of Kindl's development.

I was thinking more in terms of what the team would have to give up to acquire him. Ruutu is a UFA after the season whereas Morrow has a year left on his contract so he'd likely cost much more than Ruutu. That being said, I'd love to see Morrow in red and white this season.

I think a guy like Tuomo Ruutu would be a great fit for the Wings. He's a big, gritty winger with offensive upside. Plus he's younger and would likely cost us less prospects/picks than Brenden Morrow.

Hopefully Mrazek is allowed to play for the Czechs at the World Juniors this year. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in action, especially at the international level.

Markstrom is still playing in the NHL this year and actually started a game earlier this week while McCollum is hardly playing in the ECHL.
