Per Khan Ericsson out and Kronwall still out. According to Khan Ouellet will be paired with Smith *gulp* In other news, our #1 D-man is Kyle Quincey (Good luck Jimmy)
-
per khan ultrasound showed fluid but no tear. Will not play saturday, but will likely travel with team on west Canada trip
-
Helm skating today per Khan. Seems the Saturday return may still be up in the air.
-
Would like to have seen Almqvist called up
-
He does have a lot of experience playing with Czech forwards from the Red Wings, ala Kopecky and Fleischmann
-
Miller Tallinder for Yakupov Dubnyk ?
-
I figure with Tatar, Cleary, Ericsson, DeKyser, and Glendening getting raises, that would leave with something like 5 million in cap space to chase an FA, give or take He has to, not waiver exempt.
-
Smith would never clear waivers
-
Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Franzen Tatar - Weiss - Abdelkader Nyquist - Helm - Cleary Miller - Andersson - Tootoo Glendening Here's what the forward line looks like next year (before free agency) assuming they re-sign Tatar, Glendening, and beloved Cleary, and Bert retires, Aflie retires, Eaves is waived, and Sammy hits FA. Even without any FA acquisitions that's a pretty decent line up. And all the prospects will be a year older and closer to jumping up.

Franzen was on a better scoring pace than that in 08-09, 09-10, and even last season. 08-09 - spent mostly with Zetterberg, and everyone's favorite: Samuelsson. 09-10 - spent almost entirely with Datsyuk and Holmstrom 12-13 - spent mostly with Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Brunner, and Abdelkader 10-11 was certainly not his best season, though all of his are pretty statistically similar. However, 10-11 was one of Filppula's worst scoring seasons. If anything it appears Franzen carried Fil that season, and not the other way around. In regards to Hudler... 08-09 - That season Hudler scored 28 of his points (about half of his points) while on the PP. A PP unit that consisted of Zetterberg, Franzen, and Samuelsson, not Filppula. 11-12 - While Hudler and Filppula had career years playing almost entirely with Zetterberg, Z - despite still outscoring both of them - had one of his worst scoring seasons ever. If anything they dragged him down while he made them look good. Filppula is by no means a worthless player, love him still, but guys like Stamokos & St. Louis > Filppula. He'll benefit more from playing with them, than they will from him.

What seasons were those?
-
Precisely. Guys like Z, Dats, Alfie, Weiss make everyone around them better. Fil does not. I have no doubt he'll have another 60 pt season this year for a number of reasons, but most of that will come from playing with Tampas stars, not the other way around. We simply already have enough of what Fil brings to the table. Good luck to him in Tampa, they need him more than we do.

Will young talent ever speak out against Wings philosophy?
number9 replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
If you actually believe that, why all the back peddling? Purposefully knocking a teammate out of the line up at practice is not only messed up, but it gets no one anywhere. Teammates and management would hate that player. It's sad that the irrational hatred of our vets on this forum has come to this... -

I'm sure there are those who would say any of Miller, Tootoo, Eaves, Emmerton -

Certainly not. You need to go back and re-read that thread. More than a few LGWers were against what Lil Bert did. I was one of the more adamant supporters of what Lil Bert did, but not for the reasons you are describing. I supported Bert because I felt he should - as an agitator - be allowed to agitate, and because he did not initiate the actual fight, Jensen did. He did not run Jensen or make a dangerous play. I think guys like Bertuzzi should be allowed to play rough and tumble, but deliberately attempting to injury another prospect, let alone a full time wing, is beyond going too far. What you're describing is sociopathic. By the way you describe what's stopping Mrazek from arranging a little "accident" after practice for Howard? Do WHATEVER it takes right? Do you really think if Tatar slammed Zetterbergs face into the glass at tryouts he would be on this team? It might free up a spot, but he would be hated by his own teammates and by management as well. Fighting is one thing, and it happens at tryouts and camps when things get heated, but you don't attempt to run or injury a teammate EVER. A guy like that would find himself in the KHL veryyyy quickly. -
GDT 10/4 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Hurricanes 2 (OT)
number9 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I'm not one of the ppl losing my mind over Tatar not playing. I understand those roster spots belong to guys with seniority, until they play themselves out of a job. However, the fact that Tatar can't be sent to GR is what bugs me. I don't like the idea of him sitting around doing nothing. Rather see him get ice time in GR, like Nyquist, and get called up when injuries inevitably happen. So I'm kinda in a dilemma. I would never wish any wing injured and I'm always hoping all the Wings excel beyond what's expected of them, but secretly I'm kinda hoping for more injuries or that someone starts sucking so that Tatar can get his foot in the door. What if we're amazing this year and injuries don't come till late... And Tatar rides the pine for months... That would be so awesome for the team but so wasteful for Tatar at the same time. -
2 goal lead is the worst lead

Some of you may not know it, but Parros is by far one of the smarter goons. Played for Princeton for a reason. Always loved him and his personality/mustache (which he uses to promote his charities). Hope he's ok, that was a weird spill fersure.
-
But he wouldn't be a Red Wing

Only Bertuzzi, Mcnulty, and Wheaton really add toughness, maybe Nastasiuk a little More than few tougher/bigger guys have slipped in the last few years. Bertuzzi, Callahan, McNulty, Wheaton, Mckee, Sheahan, Hudon, Bodin, Aubry. Holland has made it clear he wants to start getting bigger, but he's going to do it through the draft as you can see.

Ryan-Nugent-Hopkins re-signs with Edmonton 7yrs/42m
number9 replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Sorry this is ridiculous. Predicting season stats is a bit silly, but predicting career stats and saying a 20 yr old is going to be in the HHOF is beyond laughable. They don't "know" anything. They're hoping this will pay off in the end, but there's a chance it could bite them in the ass. He could turn out to be an average forward -
Cleary averaged 16:47 in the playoffs Morrow averaged 13:47
-
IDK Morrows realllll slow. He brings a lot of grit though. Bargain signing.
-
That makes sense. Veteran stay at home guy that covered his a** and allowed him to jump in on some offensive plays.

Jensen out till December/January after fight with Tyler Bertuzzi
number9 replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
Ouellet and Sproul not being untradeable is pretty common sense. Their arguably some of our most tradeable assets. And Jensen being a top defensive prospect is also pretty common sense. He's ranked as such and just won WCHA defensemen of the year. "The only reason Bert isn't in the doghouse is because it wasn't Sproul or Ouellet" isn't exactly a commonly known fact. The ladder I was referring to is currently looks like this at defense. 1. Sproul 2. Backman 3. Ouellet 4. Jensen 5. Marchenko 6. Almqvist 7. Nicastro Of course Almqvist will rise up that list after the pre-season, but I would group Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, Jensen, and Marchenko all together as our top D prospects. All have played outstanding in their respective leagues. Jensen's older because he was in the NCAA, which also arguably a tougher league.
