I'm actually hoping that this ends up being the case. I can't think of another team in the West that would be as exciting to watch the Wings face. As for the Stanley Cup finals thing, I think the Wings definitely have a shot at it... but they MUST tighten up defense before any hope of that happening can come to fruition.

You guys are gonna love this. May I introduce to you.... The Duck. Link.

Awesome news. We miss you, Pasha! -
Half a year ago, the goalie they rely on wasn't injured. Also, I still can't find one single article stating that Nabokov told anybody that his wish was to play for a Cup contending team. All I could find was Nabby saying he wanted to get back into the NHL and his agent saying he would play for any team that grabbed him. But let's just assume, for the sake of this discussion that he DID say that. Who's fault is it that mixed messages are being released to the public? Nabokov & his agent's. You can't get mad at someone for making a decision based on something your agent said when you did absolutely nothing to try and correct the situation. If what you say is true, they let both the rumors fly around. That's not Snow's fault. It doesn't matter who he signed with. When he signed that contract, he KNEW he'd be going through the waivers system. He KNEW any team below the Wings could scoop him up if they wanted to. He did it anyway - and now that contract, regardless of who he signed it with, is property of the New York Islanders. And he KNEW this was a possibility before he was even handed the pen. As far as your comments about how we know that the Islanders didn't pick Nabby just to keep him out of Detroit... we don't know that he didn't do that. But we also don't know that he did. Why is it okay to speculate that Snow was intentionally being a ****** but it's NOT okay to speculate that maybe Snow was doing his job? I posted this before, but I'll post it again. Ken Holland described the situation with Nabokov as (paraphrashing) "a unique opportunity to get a goalie with over 300 NHL wins for a great price." Snow could've easily seen the situation as the same - and considering the goalie they were relying on was injured the night before Nabby went on waivers, the decision shouldn't really have surprised anybody. The fact is, we have NO idea what happened. But there's definitely a double standard for Snow & Holland flying around in this thread. And I'm as die-hard a Wings fan as anybody, but this is getting obnoxious.

I don't think most people understood the poll. The question wasn't "Should Bailey have gotten offended?" The question was "Were the comments of the coaching staff over the line?" So you're saying what they said was okay by voting no? They clearly were over the line. Where's the professionalism in ANY of those statements, regardless of who they were directed towards? Sure, the kid is downright money reaching to sue the Ducks over this, but the Ducks definitely opened themselves up to getting taken advantage of this way by making the comments they did.

That would be epitome of "suck". Though I'd be for this idea. Everything needs some comic relief. The "team" those two would produce would be pretty damn comical. Then again, we already have the Islanders, so...

I just went to go to the gas station and when I got in my car, I noticed that my center console had been opened and emptied out onto my passenger seat. I don't keep anything valuable in my car so whoever was in there didn't take anything... they just found a lot of receipts and a pair of sunglasses. They did find my garage door opener, though, and they tried to get it open for whatever reason. Trying to get into the garage, I assume. I'm so irked. I feel terrible knowing someone I don't know just went in my car and went through my stuff like that. And I know the initial reaction is "Uh, lock your doors?" I normally do. The boyfriend borrowed the car and didn't lock it when he got back.

The kid is definitely too sensitive, but those kinds of remarks aren't very professional either. So while I think the player definitely needs to grow thicker skin, the coaching staff shouldn't be talking like that to begin with. You have to keep a level of professionalism about you. Obviously the lines are going to be pushed because it's a high string emotional environment... but there's always a line... and it needs to be observed.

A-ha! I was right! Earlier when that article was first posted on here, that same quote said Dave Holland instead of Ken Holland. I didn't think it was part of the comedic aspect of the article. Sorry about the gloating post. I just wanted to proclaim how right I was.

As if to imply this whole situation isn't already really messy?
-
Their only useful goalie got injured the night before Nabby went on waivers.

Do you know of an article where it states that Nabokov let people know beforehand that he wanted to play for a Cup contending team? I'm not trying to call anybody out or anything. I've just been looking for a source on that and haven't been able to find one yet.

There's 40,271 replies and there's over 350,000 views. I don't think it worked.

Malkin isn't going now either. They're dropping like flies. Malkin will also miss All-Star Weekend.

I should be asleep. It's my day off.

Yeah, it was really funny. I especially like the comment about how Nabby walked into Nassau Coliseum, rubbed his hands together, and said "My work is done here." LOL. I knew the article was for comedic purposes, but the writer got every name right except Holland's. I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be part of the joke or if he just accidentally messed up.
-
Was the "Dave Holland" name in that article on purpose or did he just mess up?
-
Thank you, thank you, and thank you. My thoughts EXACTLY.

I really don't understand all the hate for this. I've honestly thought they looked pretty cool. And no, I'm not 12. It doesn't have to make sense. It's fun.

His worth is already hurting no matter what he does. Let's not forget that he couldn't find a single team to pick him up last summer when he was a UFA. He ended up getting on a team in the KHL, but he quit halfway through the season. He already has a recent reputation of being a flimsy (in terms of showing up for the job) player. Do you really think refusing to report to the Islanders helps that? The way I see it, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. There going to be some GMs who would look at his stint with the Islanders and use it as an excuse to say he's getting old and he isn't as sharp as he used to be. But there's also going to be some who simply don't think he's a team player... because when you combine this incident with the others he's been involved in recently, he doesn't portray himself very well.

It doesn't make any sense. You're right. I, like you, think to myself "what good can Nabby even do there with such a short contract?" I thought a contract that was up in July with the Wings was pretty self-explanatory as far as what the idea for it was. But for all we know, Snow was hoping that Nabokov would complete this season and he could start negotiating something with him for next. We have no idea what the motives behind claiming him were. I've seen speculation ranging from just wanting to keep Nabby out of Detroit to Snow having a personal distaste for someone in the Red Wings organization. If we're going to speculate, is it not fair to also speculate that maybe - just maybe - Snow was actually doing what he felt was best for the team? Goaltenders of that caliber don't pop up at $570,000 every day. As I stated earlier, the only goaltender worth a poo for the Islanders right now got injured the night before they claimed him. Why would anybody honestly think Snow would pass up that opportunity for the Islanders? Ken Holland was quoted as saying: Don't you think maybe Snow saw it as such too? You can think he's a dbag for blocking Nabokov's goal of playing in the playoffs this season, but his job isn't to pander to the player's wishes. His job is to put together the best team he possibly can within the restraints of the regulations. Nabokov knew what he was getting himself into when he signed that contract with Detroit. He knew that any of the teams ranked lower than us could take him if they wanted to. He knew that if that happened, his contract would then belong to whatever team that was - so he was essentially signing an agreement to play for Detroit or whomever claimed him since he knew about this beforehand. I don't understand how anybody can think he's noble for refusing to play for NYI. He's throwing a fit because things didn't go his way after he already agreed to the risks. And if Meehan, his agent, wasn't representing his own feelings when he said Nabby would play for any team that claimed him, he should've clarified that in the press rather than letting both rumors fly around confusing everybody. I'm not saying Snow did the right thing. I'm just saying that Nabokov isn't an angel with a shining halo in this situation.

This can only mean one thing. The world is coming to an end.
-
But surely people here can see how this can send mixed messages to ANY team that's considering claiming him. Is it possible that Snow heard that statement, saw how depleted the Isles' goaltender situation was, and then plucked Nabby up? I mean, the goalie they were depending on got injured the night before. I just don't understand why Snow has to be the villain in this case. Nabokov knew the risks when he signed the contract with Detroit. He knew how the waiver system worked. He lost. I don't see why people are rallying around him. He didn't get what he wanted so he's refusing to report. Even if you think Snow was being a dbag, not reporting doesn't say a whole lot for Nabby. I understand that it must be deflating to think you're going to the Wings and wind up on the Islander's roster. But that's the rules and that's the risk he took. That's nobody's fault but his own.

I hate reading things like this. I wish a speedy recovery for Savard, even though that's unlikely.
