Is anyone else rooting for these teams to lose? I find myself cheering against these teams for selfish reasons. It's the theory that if they lose the chances of Suter, Parise, and Semin will leave their current teams and will be looking for new homes. Is anyone else rooting for them to lose? It probably doesn't matter either way but still has me cheering against them.

If this is true not only is the cap floor gonna be scary, as well as the competitive teams against the cap but, players are gonna want more money. If owners want a bigger piece of the pie then I bet the players are gonna be looking for more as well. If that happens, expect Parise to get 8 to almost 9 million a season and Suter to get around 8 million. Who knows though.

Holmstrom should be gone. We need 3 additional impact players to make a difference and bringing back players that are old and busted is not worth the money we pay to watch this team play. Lidstrom is the only UFA player I would bring back and it should be a discounted price since he is 42 years old and much more prone to injury. The wings are loyal and I can appreciate that but there has to be a time where you have to let guys go. It's like having a new car that is great when you first get it and gives you years of service but if it keeps breaking down then it's time for a new car. Holmstrom is like an old car that you love even though it leaks oil and starts only half the time.

I think Lidstrom if he doesn't retire will play for no less than $5 million. He took a 20% paycut 2 years ago I believe only because he knew the team needed to make room for salaries for other people. I don't think he will take more than a 20% paycut. That is a lot of money even for a guy like Lidstrom. I don't think Doan will come here. His team is playing better than ours and their team is younger. We should be all in for Parise. We have a chance at Suter if Lidstrom is done but no chance at all if he comes back. The Preds have too much money that they can pay him especially if the cap floor goes up. I see us getting another Dman and a grinder on top of Parise. I wish we could trade Franzen for someone good in return but I think Franzen's contract is too long and untradeable at this point. He seems to just not care anymore after he got his money. I don't want someone like that on our team. If Parise bolts to Minnesota I think the next option needs to be Semin. These other guys that are free agents are ok but no one person other than those two can put up the point production that they can and we need roster spots for our young guys.

I feel the same way. I have hope that we will get a pretty good D if not Suter someone like Carle or Wideman and at F if not Parise someone like P-A Parenteau who is a pretty damn good player.

We have close to $21 million to get some players. If Lidstrom comes back, expect to pay him between 5 and 6 million. Suter is gonna get $6 million on the open market and Parise is gonna command upwards of 7 to 7.5 million based on the inflated salaries last year. We still need to pay Quincey, Helm, and Abdelkader. Even at best case scenario this would be hard to work in. Lidstrom - $5 Million Suter - $6 Million Parise - 7 Million Helm - $2 Million Abdelkader - $1 Million Quincey - $3 Million Total - $24 Million One of two things have to happen. Salary cap increase and/or trade someone. The chances at getting other people in addition are slim to none. Trades need to happen in my opinion because the CBA is an unsure thing and noone knows if the cap will go up or down. Although a great player its sad that we have a 42 year old as our best Defensman, Lidsrom or not our future is a little scary unless we pick someone up. Anyone who thinks Parise won't get that much is dreaming. If Lidstrom comes back go after Parise hard and hopefully Suter. If he retires pull out the check book.

WCQF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Predators 2
Diluvian04 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I want to believe that the Wings will make some changes but lately it seems like Illitch is spending his money on the Tigers rather than the Hockey team. I could be wrong and I hope I am but not making a splash in free agency and then not making hardly any moves at the deadline, I can't help but wonder whats going on. It could also be that Holland is undervaluing free agents. My first Red flag was Wisniewski saying that the wings expect there players to take a discount to come and play for them. I realize the salary cap restrictions but why did we play the whole season with $6 million in the bank. I mean Columbus spent more money than we did this year. It is just mind blowing. -
How much is it gonna take to sign Suter and Parise assuming we go after them? I'm thinking around 12 to 14 million for both of them. Does anyone think it's possible?

I'm curious to what Anaheim is going to do. So many assets and yet still on the outside looking in. I don't think they are going to make it. -

If Wolski is available on waivers which I just read he is, We should try and get him. He is a depth player and we could pick him up without having to giving anything up. His stats are good in the playoffs too. What do you guys think? He is a restricted free agent at the end of the year and if we don't want him we could just trade him. Nevermind he was just traded. -

If I were Holland I would let him walk or trade him atleast. If we have any shot at Parise and/or Suter we are gonna have to part with some players in order to make it happen and Lidstrom if he comes back is gonna have to take a pay cut. I think its about time he does so anyway given the fact that he is over 40 years old. Sure we have him at a discount but I would say to his benefit he has had the chance to play for an owner that would never trade him and has paid him 11 million per year at one point. These players mak too much anyways but if we expect to get players of this caliber we have to be prepared to pony up the cash. This is what I hate about the salary floor. Teams that have no business spending that much money are giving players inflated contracts just to meet the criteria. Doesn't that screw with the pay scale for everyone else? The other thing I hate as well is players like Brian Campbell can be unloaded and thus helping teams that pay stupid contracts get out from underneath them. Sorry for getting off topic, just felt like venting. -

For a first round pick -
I've always liked Sheldon Souray. He is injury prone but when healthy he is pretty damn good. I'm curious on what it would take to get a guy like that.
-
This is a topic brought up on XM92. It's between the Rangers and Red Wings and the Wings are winning. Which team do you believe is America's team? All business, all class and no chumps.
-
Seems like a lot to give up for a guy like that.
-
They are making fun of ekland on xm92. Calling him "that guy" asking what dream is he in or something to that effect.
-
Does anyone think there is a chance we could get someone like Corey Perry or Ryan Getzlaf? They are some of my favorite players outside of Zach Parise and the Top guys on our team. I read that Corey Perry may be available but haven't seen anything on Getzlaf.

I'd love to have Semin but the caps are doing much better now I doubt that trade will happen. I think guys like Penner, Hecht maybe, or even Kostitsyn to name a few will be available. Penner is intriguing in the sense he has been underwhelming this year. The guy I like that I think we could ride the wave with and utilize his age would be Sam Gagner. The only problem is that his stock is sky high right now and it might end up costing much more than it would a month ago. Maybe I'm jumping on the bandwagon but I just think he would be great on any of our top three lines. He is an accurate shooter and seems to find himself in the right place a lot. With us having a lot of playmakers, really almost anyone can come in here and thrive. Maybe we should look past some of the stats and view some of these guys based off of their overall talents. Hell I just named a few guys so I'm sure there are quite a few guys out there. The cool part is that some of these guys just need more skill and experience around them and they could become a completely different player. Guys like Parise and Nash are not attainable in my opinion.

I agree. I think those two pieces are kinda big but with the money we still have it's entirely possible that we could get a stud come trade deadline. Holland didn't sell the farm to get any player that was worth it and I think that is what makes a good GM. Someone who doesn't follow the hype of mediocre players and does not foolishly react to other teams actions. I will say though that Holland tends to under value players from time to time. Just a perception though. He is the GM, not me.
-
It's Ekland so take it like a fart in the wind. Wisniewski is from Canton, Mi so I think there is a chance for him to sign here. As long as he isn't greedy.
-
Fine by me, he was pretty good with the Wings before.
-
Trust me I would love for us to get rid of Hudler, I am just not sure anyone wants him. He is a pretty good point producer but I think perhaps other teams may be looking at his size as well as his ability to hold onto the Puck. He gets knocked off the Puck more than any other player I have ever seen. If we could package him to get rid of his salary then I'm all for it I just figured if Holland wants to get rid of him he has probably already tried. I know Babcock wants to get bigger which is why I think they really are trying to get rid of him.
-
Florida has really screwed up July 1 by overpaying players but now that they have hit the salary cap floor, is it possible we can actually get someone half-way decent players to fill the gap on Defense? We are all upset at how Holland has approached these free agents but we also have to understand that none of these players are worth the money they are getting. If it's not the amount of money they are getting paid per year, it's the crazy length of the contracts we are seeing. There are still other teams out there that need to hit the Floor but they also have to pay there own players. With that being said what kind of money do you see players on day two and going forward getting? Also which players do you think we will in play for?
-
Noone wants Hudler. We are going to have to buy him out or just deal with him for a year. It will take two 1st round picks (since we tend to have late 1st rounders) and a prospect. I still think that is alot but it should work since it's entirely possible that he doesn't want to play there anyways. We have so many prospects now I think it would be ok to deal away a few picks. Just sign Conklin for a goalie and call it a day. I wold rather have Yandle though.

Sheldon Souray at 1.65 is a good deal. Most people don't like him but he has a cannon.
