We are coming out of these next 2 days right in the playoff race or in a world of hurt/potential sell mode. No 3 point games. Win these ones outright.

Jensen has that " I don't want to ever play in the AHL again " feel to his play. He is smooth and makes good decisions.
-
Our PP is just embarassing. When I played hockey and our PP was struggling the general rule to keep it simple was just shoot the damn puck from everywhere. We pass it, pass it some more, decline to shoot, pass some more. Turn it over. Cmon.

Worst hook of the night not called but it never should've got to that, absolutely terrible power play in OT. Vanek reminds me so much of Franzen sometimes. Either brilliant or borderline intolerable. How many times did he shoot the puck off a shin pad tonight? Needed 2 points, can't settle for 1. Also 3 on 3, He keeps putting DK on the first unit. Can we please just quit effing around and put Green our best offensive d man on the ice. If you're not going to put Green on the ice it should be Jensen, he is smooth. DK has giant bricks for hands. Absolutely no logical reason he should be on the ice 3 on 3. It cant be for defensive reasons, he was out of position about 7 times tonight.

They showed up a little late to the dance but made up for it. 3 in a row, Nice work.
-
I will admit our D is terrible but is the goalies job to stop the puck. Once in a while you have to steal a game.
-
Did the Wings forget what time the game started?
-
I think that 3rd and 4th line will have a lot of tinkering as the night goes on. For the love of everything can just 1 puck go in the net off a random Riley Shaehan body part.

If you're talking about right this very second for me it's : 1. Coreau 2. Mrazek 3. Howard When Howard is healthy and if he can get back to the way he was playing he's # 1. No matter who is chosen we have to move one of either Howard or Mrazek. Too much money tied up in goal. Coreau has now played 8 games. If he plays 10 he has to clear waivers. Not sure how that changes the plans going forward.

This team is more than capable of playing good hockey.................but when we play bad we play reallllllly bad. Good win. Ol' blue eyes 2.0 played good between the pipes.
-
We are that team where every time we make a mistake it ends up in our own net. We plays stretches of hockey where we are plenty good enough to hang with anyone. It's just when we are bad we are really bad. Errorson.........oh Errorson.

One of the young guys that I'm enjoying watching is Jensen. Problem is if he plays one more game after tonight I believe he has to clear waivers to go down and with our 0 cap flexibility and potential movement of players I think he has to go down until the dust settles and then come back up. I would definitely choose him over Sproul at this point.

That period was our whole season in a nutshell. Terrible turnovers at one end and Ericsson at the other end. So depressing.
-
The question would then be. Why in the hell is he on the PP? Might as well put Miller back there.

Congrats to Mr. Ovechkin. Great career so far, Could be a 1500 point guy or more but the time all is said and done.

1/10 GDT - Red Wings at Blackhawks - 8:30 PM EST

Mrazek can make all the great saves he wants, that's his job. It's also his job to stop a puck in OT that didn't hit a thing. I want Mrazek to be our # 1 goalie long term but it's a goalies job to steal a game once in a while. I watched the game this morning and he made lots of very good saves ( it's his job) but all those nice saves don't mean anything when you let in a 60 footer untouched from the blue line. -

I didn't get a chance to watch the game but I did just watch the highlights. 2 takeaways 1. Sproul better learn how to be better defensively 2. Mrazek needs to stop more pucks. He let in 2 pucks from the point that didn't hit a thing. Not good enough. -

Welcome back Abby and Green. We have a d man who can make an 12 foot pass now so thats good. Just need Helm back, figure out how bad we really are and start evaluating options or...............................win 15 of our next 20 and get back in it. Thats the spirit Nice GDT by the way. Simple and effective. Wings win 8-3 -
Pretty funny. Espo had 550 shots that year and 2nd in shots was Orr at 392. Did Espo count his warmup shots? Did he shoot pucks from the hallway? And if concussions were diagnosed properly in the 60's and 70's there probably would't have been enough players to keep the league going.

I said one of my criteria was longevity, not the only criteria. I also use that criteria when comparing Gretz to Lemieux.

Frans Nielsen will represent Red Wings at NHL All-Star Game
puckbags replied to krsmith17's topic in General
Toews just admitted he's not deserving of going. The whole all star thing is lost on me at this point. -
I will always take Lidstrom in this argument. For one I didn't see Orr play. There is no argument that Orr was the greatest offensive d man off all time. The numbers don't lie. One of my criteria is longevity. Lids played 1564 regular season games. Orr played 657. Lidstrom also played in an era of longer seasons, longer playoffs, olympics, all star games, world cups, extended pre seasons etc... and he did so with basically 0 serious injuries in his career. 94-95 was the only season Lidstrom played under 70 games. He played 80 games or more 14 times in his career in an era where the game was/is bigger and faster. I think it's these 2 on the top and everyone else is a giant step down the ladder. Good argument either way though

I would pick Nestrasil up off waivers ** sarcasm ** . Oh I remember when Holland put this guy on waivers and everyone was up in arms. He's just not that good.

I love the " lets trade the whole team " philosophy. Like that ever happens. In a perfect world we could move one of the those contracts on the back end. Preferably Ericcson's contract. Move one of the goalie contracts( not likely) . That frees up 8-9 million right there. If someone is willing to completely over spend for Green it has to be done. Deal has to be right. Green is only 31 and up until he was injured this year was clearly our best d man and had his swagger back. Nielsen isn't going anywhere. Vanek for a 1st rounder or two 2nd rounders? Are you serious. Vanek might fetch a 3rd rounder. Why would you give away Howard? His injury killed a lot of his trade value but he's arguably was our best player up until he got hurt. We do still have to ice a hockey team. This team is moving into a new barn, there is no chance this team is going to play with an AHL roster next year. It's not happening.

I'm not sure if you even watch the games. Drew Miller is not Sidney Crosby but every time Miller Ott and Glendening are on the ice they work hard at least. Rarely make a mistake and mix it up a bit. Exactly what you want your 4th line to do. You can dislike the guy, thats fine, that's your opinion. You can think that bringing up Nosek or Callahan and benching Miller will be beneficial. Once again your opinion but at least pay attention to what is going on out there when he's on the ice. He does exactly what he's supposed to do. Accountability has to be brought into the equation here. AA was held accountable for his play and bingo he gets 3 points.
