I would not have minded giving a part-time roster spot to Big Ern, as opposed to Andersson. He's probably (slightly) more talented than Aaron Downey, and I don't think having Downey in the line-up in '08 ever hurt us. In fact, he brought a little more excitement to games and added some much-needed toughness. I don't think I've ever seen a softer hockey team than these current Wings. Maybe in peewee. MAYBE!

I did not know Lilja had such a large fan club. Now he's a fighter? He fought, but he was not a fighter. And Probert and Kocur are universally thought of as two of the 5-10 best enforcers to ever drop the gloves - # 1 & 2 in my book! McCarty was a decent enough fighter, but struggled from time to time against the heavyweights. But for the most part, he held his own. Did Tootoo play for Detroit? I don't remember. Now Downey, yeah, he was underrated. Not the greatest technical fighter, but he was a bulldog and had great endurance, and he never hesitated to come to a teammates defense. I'm still pissed that we had a roster spot for Kopecky in '09 but Downey was wasted in GR. What about Shanny and May? Both good fighters, but May was a bit past his prime by the time he signed with us. Lapointe was also a good fighter.

As I could not recall Lilja beating Boll "like a rented Mule", I had to go watch it again on Youtube. Lilja handled himself well against a better fighter, and if I were forced to pick a winner, I might give it to Lilja solely on the basis that he fell on top. But I stand by my original verdict: draw. "PAIN TRAIN"? Yeah, I felt like I was on one when watching him in the '07 WCF vs Anaheim.

I guess that your memories of his days with Detroit are a little different than mine. Hell, I don't even remember him actually fighting all that often; certainly no more than 2 or 3 times a season. He lost to Moen and got Destroyed by Weber. He won against Souray and Sharp (does this one even count?). Draw against Phaneuf and Boll, at least in my book. I'm having trouble remembering any other of his fights with Detroit. I remember Corson and Jovo kicking his ass when he was with Florida. So that's at least 2-4-2 by my count. You can do the percentage. Math is not my strength.

TKO? I don't know about that. Lucky punch that grazed the helmet is more like it, but I'll give it to Lilja. And props to him for defending his teammate, but that fight against Phaneuf was a whole lot of nothing. No, I'm talking about the Lilja who got his ass handed to him in about 80% of his fights. Don't get me wrong, I respect Lilja for being willing to drop the gloves, especially in the post-Bowman Wings era, but simply put, he was not a good fighter. But this is not even worth arguing about.

On a serious note, and avoiding the obvious choices, I'd go with Martin Lapointe. One of the last punishing body-checking forwards Detroit had in the line-up before signing Drake in '08. To be fair, Holland did bring back Osgood and it did work out for us, just a little. Relating to Lebron James, not Dan Cleary. But to be clear, I am not defending Holland. I have never done that in my life, and I never will!
