While the officials of course aren't purposefully against the Red Wings, phantom interference calls - I don't care what the player or team is - are absolutely absurd and just so inconsistently judged. Especially when the person who commits it basically just breathes on the goaltender and you don't even actually get a penalty/2:00 minor for it. Either he interfered, or he didn't. None of this in-between bulls**t. Of course referees have hard jobs and make mistakes. I was a sports official in basketball and soccer for some club leagues for a while when I was in college. I certainly wasn't perfect and gained a respect for what officials typically have to deal with in any sport. But the first game I ever officiated in basketball, looking back on it now the way I handled it - I'd be fired I did such an awful job and tried to interpret something to justify the rules my way. I'd want to rip my own head off if I was a player in the game or a fan that game. I can tolerate a missed call on a hook here or there or whatever as it happens. I cannot tolerate officials being incompetent or rules that are left open for ridiculous amounts of interpretation or that can be changed/modified as officials see fit, especially when you can easily review stuff like this given technology today, like what I described above for myself or phantom interference calls that actually do not happen and when you know the goals should still count or intent to blow the whistle crap. Either he interfered or he didn't, and either you blew your whistle in time before the puck crossed the line, or you didn't. Officials aren't against the Wings, but they pull some bogus crap out their rear ends sometimes and some rules need major modifications.

To watch, a tie between football (primarily college) and hockey. All other sports I don't have too much of an interest in to really watch a full game of something unless it's for a playoff or championship, at least if it were on TV. I typically have a good time though at live sporting events, go to New Orleans Hornets games down here infrequently and alwyas have fun at those even though I don't follow them or the NBA all that much.

I'd like to think the NHL has more to offer to fans than just Crosby alone and/or Crosby and Ovechkin alone. And there are.

Then what's your solution then? Versus treats the NHL very well, yes, but it isn't as widely available and they aren't on DirecTV anymore. The conference that my alma mater is in also has a good percentage of their national sports braodcasts on Versus. My conference doesn't have a TV deal with ESPN. I personally reach out to see these games and take the extra effort because I am a fan of the NHL and my school obviously, but the casual viewer isn't going to see these games or give a lick as much. Schools from the Big 12 and the Pac 10 also have football broadcasts on Versus also and therefore there is availability issues. Just trying to show that this isn't just an NHL problem either with Versus. ESPN is more widely available than Versus. What do you suggest?

That's a riot! Not giving you crap, giving the people at NHL Network grief. If that were the case, and with all these phantom interfernce calls beign made when "goals" have been scored, why not give people the full two minute minor. Either he intefered and it's a penalty, or he didn't. None of this phantom in-between b.s. Of course that would make too much sense.

It's largely a reputation call on Holmstrom, I would put money on it. I'm not one to rant and rave that referees are against the Red Wings or my favorite teams, I hate bitterness in terms of that, but I absolutely cannot stand referee incompetence and them playing a bigger hand than necessary in determining the outcome of a game, like was almost the case last night and like has been the case in a few Red Wings games this year with bulls**t phantom interfernce calls or intent to blow the whistles disalloiwing goals. I could barely enjoy the game and the win last night because of these bozos with the absurd phantom interference call.

donfishmaster and T.Low have great ideas. Since it doesn't snow enough or rarely snows or doesn't snow at all in certain geographical locations in the South, promote inline hockey. And also, as much as I don't like race to factor in much of anything in life, Iginla would be a great selling item. He's one of the better players in the game, and while players of African descent won't be in a majority in the NHL anytime soon, it would be great to put one of the few blacks front and center. Especially during Black History Month/February. The Olympics obviously were front and center this time, but next season, could tie in Iginla and other blacks (Grier, forgot the guy's name who plays with the Kings, etc.) with Black History Months With TV, for me personally I don't care if the games are on Versus or not, just be available somewhere. But I'm not the casual fan. Say what you want about ESPN, it is more available than Versus is in households. And it has probably already been said, but promote more American players given the recent success of the Olympic team. There was a goalie on that did really well you know... *hint hint, nudge nudge* Finally, show off more of the talent in the NHL that are just as capable of taking over a game instead of just Nothing But Crosby (and Ovechkin to a lesser degree). Kane, Zetterberg, Toews, Franzen, Gionta, Ryan, Datsyuk (obviously more familiar with Wings players obviously but you get the picture), etc. EDIT: One more idea from the brain... Also, promote how women can get involved in hockey as well and plugging it in with female causes that are familiar to everybody year round, like Breast Cancer.

Went to a Stanley cup Final in 2009 comung up one game short of a victory... Won a gold medal... Seems like a pretty decent coach to me.

People are really grasping for straws here. It's not like a phantom intereference call that happened tonight in the Wings-Avalanche game. The referees let plenty go in the gold medal game, but they let stuff go or made calls equally for both sides and it was as fair as you could ask for, espeically in deciding a championship game. The referees did a solid job and did not play a bigger hand in the outcome in the game than they needed to. Enough with this and trying to use the officials as a crutch to why Canada might have benefited or the U.S. lost. Canada won. USA lost. Referees didn't have all that significant of an impact. The outcome was determined on the ice by the players like it should have been.

Nicely stated. I don't like him all that much or the over-attention he receives when media seems to ignore his quesitonable traits, but to say he is lucky or crap like that is absurd. Was he a savior or god's gift to earth like some media perceived after the 2009 Stanley Cup or the Olympics? No. But he's still one of the best players in the world presently. And people that are saying he is lucky or whatever is just downright hilarious.

Fair enough on the PMs deal. While I don't like Crosby all that much, you're still a fan regardless. I got zippo problems with people that like Crosby, that's your business. Those people I'd basically give them the finger more/less indirectly. As long as people don't force stuff down my throat on what I should and should not like or be, I got no problems. If you can look past the off-ice stuff and how you present yourself consistently off the ice, great. Some can't though and that's a bigger deal to them. I'm one of those people. Hypocritical sometimes? Yeah, in some way I guess you can say that. The thing that'll separate Ovechkin and Crosby though in terms of beign liked is the overall attitude - Oveckhin is easily more personable and has some flair to him while Crosby just is pretty stoic, and sometimes not humbling or full of himself. May not be right or fair but that's the way it often is.

Nobody is saying you are less of a fan. You've at least acknowledged that his play and the off-ice stuff is separate, and the off-ice stuff is a big reason why I at least do not like him all that much. Many knowledgable people know or will agree that he's one of the best right now. However, these people aren't less of fans either, and these people are still going to dislike Crosby a good bit despite how great his play is on the ice. You probably aren't going to change that all that much.

No, and good for Crosby for doing what he needed to get done. I still dislike him a lot FOR OTHER REASONS outside of his game and think other players just as good or nearly as good should get more consistent attention as well. You really have a head full of bricks, you know that?

No. I dislike him at times because despite his talent and domination at times, he comes across like an arrogant and whiney boy at times like expalined above, and that he gets way too much attention when there are other good players in the league as well, and the attetnion he gets from outlets, people completely igonre his questionable traits. Not jealousy at all. This has been explained to you countless numbers of times, and you still do not get it or purposefully ignore this. Try harder next time, or if believing that makes you sleep easier at night, knock yourself out.
