An NHL general forum outside the Wings forum would be a solid idea. Either way I'm fine with. But while people may froth about Crosby more than other topics to a degree, it's not like it floods or spams the entire first page of topics or two. It's confined to it's own thread just like other topics that might balloon up out of control. So either way this method is implemented, it's not like an infrequent Crosby thread is going to ruin the board. NBC doesn't cover the NHL as much obviously, but it is still an outlet, and the main outlet for better/worse to try to get general fans more interested in the sport since you don't even have to have cable. Is Crosby the best way of doing that? Maybe it is, but there is still that disdain from a lot of people that more stars aren't as focused as much as him (and Ovechkin as well probably, but people in here generally like Ovie's attitude or demeanor or whatever, and Crosby's not as much). I think the Center Ice deal was b/c of last year when the Wings won and it basically was broadcasted like the Penguins won the Cup or whatever. As for Wings not getting enough pub like you say, of course that's happened in here where people think broadcasters owe the Wings coverage or whatever, I've dogged people on that before in the past, but it doesn't bug me one iota if Lidstrom or Zettterberg or whomever doesn't get recognized as much as other athletes, and I don't think that's really the case with people in here anymore. Not jealousy of his play, not lack of Wings coverage. It's basically Crosby Crosby Crosby only all the time/most the time. and that media basically just turns a blind eye to the recognition of his weaker traits. Just focus on multiple people not just one like Crosby or Ovechkin. Include Thornton, Iginla, the ice rink dude, the lawn cutter, the mailman, etc. (obviously speaking generally here) in conversations as well more consistently, I don't care who it is. And finally, you could just not go in the threads where you know you will probably go nuts over. Because people's opinions probably are not going to change. That is why I typically stay away/post as little as possible from the infrequent enforcer or goalie threads in here as an example. I've done the same thing you did in this thread. They are not going to go away no matter how much you or myself or anybody else might piss and moan how people are morons going through the same thing for the 400th time. You're going to have people to their extreme points, and people who are going to act like irriational idiots. It won't change. It's all right just to not do anything or stay away. There's overzealousy and irriational thoughts in all of this obviously - Crosby talk, enforcers, goalies, but people wouldn't be venting about it if it weren't true to some degree. You're getting too worked up about something not worth being angry at for more than 5 seconds.

Fair enough. It is still an extrememly significant win. Not really ironic, because Mardi Gras isn't a sport or an Olympic competiton or whatever - and I wasn't wallowing in on people's fun in here or anywhere about Mardi Gras in general. Not really relevant to the topic at hand so I have no idea why it's even worth mentioning. Nobody outside of yourself is even going to know what the heck I was talking about, nor care that badly, so it really isn't worth "sticking it to me" or anybody. Hehe, cool name. Homer and Hamster rhymed, so it wasn't hard to name him that cause of the easy ring the names have on each other. It is my first pet ever under my own watch completely. Given how I am not that good at taking care of stuff and probably don't have the patience to take care of a dog or cat, I'm starting slow, hehe. If I ever still have pets after this and it's totally up to me, it'll probably just be simple stuff like hamsters or a rabbit or something. I think it is Aspen shavings, but don't remebmer off the top of my head. Got it at the pet store as well with the hamster so, can't be bad I don't think. Male hamster, just a few weeks old and tiny. He doesn't play enough unfortunately and is anti-social so far. But since I've only had him since Sunday, I think I'll cut him some slack on that, hehe. Still getting used to me and his surroundings I'm assuming away from other hamsters, and he's probably worn out still, I've had to lug him from the pet stop home, I've bought him to work, also bought him over to my nephews to show and use the hamster ball and stuff so...

I call bulls**t. When you beat a rival country that is typically one of the best for the first time in 50 years roughly, when professional sports journalists more qualified to talk about it than us say similar things, it's a very significant win. They may not be as good as those Soviets, but you get the point. Mardi Gras isn't a sport or an international competition, they are two different things and I'm not sure what this has to do with the topic at hand. Let people have their fun.

Maybe not, but this ranks up there somewhat with games like the '80 Miracle on Ice, while not topping it obviously. It is a pretty damned significant win. People get that there are still games to be played. It also has a lot to do with Canadian fans who think they cannot lose whatsoever and act like they are entitled. It's nice to see them act humbled sometimes. Let people have their fun if they're doing it peacefully and respectfully. Quit acting like a party pooper.

For me personally, I don't care what channel the games are on. NBC, MSNBC, ESPN, FX, Food Network, truTV, whatever. And this is not meant to be a post that dogs curling or figure skating or ice dancing - they have their spots in the Olympics, they should be televised and broadcasted as well. However, to have hockey matchups like US-Canada, Russia-Czech Republic, and Sweden-Norway - countries that at least don't like each other when it comes to international sport, to have them not all show on the higher-up channels is real disappointing, when hockey is at the very least equally exciting as bobsledding, the luge, alpine skiing, ski jumping, etc.

:violin: You can also thank NBC and NHL Center Ice for shoving him down our throats. And while I don't visit other sports forums, I can bet you there is a lot of the same disdain towards Crosby and/or marketing towards Crosby. It is the same thing like college football did with Tim Tebow, the NBA with Bryant and Lebron James and the like. In the end I don't have all that much against these guys, but am so damned sick of seeing their faces or hearing about them like they are portrayed as miracle workers or turning water into wine. And as for Crosby, his rants and whining off/on on the ice don't help his image or whatever to the people that don't like him to begin with. These people deserved to be talked about, yes, but I would like other more coverage of players just as good/almost as good. Not getting that as much. This is probably not just an LGW thing, and the disgust about him, whether justiifed or not, is not going away any time soon. You complaining about others with a bad attitude about the absurd levels of Crosby coverage isn't going to sway anybody to your side when a majority of people have come together and have something legitmate that they are dissatifised with, to certain degrees. Is it overzealous sometimes? Sure. But in essence, you are acting just as much as a whiny ***** like the rest of us in here or this thread, or Crosby, etc. And there are plenty of other threads on LGW that don't talk about Crosby. Plenty on this first page as well.

Babcock's teams over the long haul have been two 2 Stanley Cup Finals, a Western Conference Final, and have won a Stanley Cup. While Canada should and might still be one of the odds on favorite to win this tourney, any team can have an upset loss or go down early in just a span of 5, 6 games or whatever. The Olympic games aren't all that long so an upset here/there shouldn't be too stunning. Babcock is not a bad coach.
