Nah, not really. I always change the channel or turn away if I see Pittsburgh Cup commercials or selling their championship DVD, not so much that I hate Pitt, in all honesty I really don't have anything against them even though they've played the Wings in a playoff series twice now (just don't get into the "rivalry" factor all that much usually), but it does bother me of 1 win away, blew it in 2 games straight etc. Not angry, not depressed, just moderatly annoyed whenever I see related stuff on TV regarding the outcome/final game/series, etc.

Not really. While every year/team is different obviously Osgood along with rest of the team, generally speaking, turned it up a notch for when it counted the most, in the playoffs making as deep of a playoff run as you can without winning it all. I don't see why the Wings should have any trouble making the playoffs again, no need to worry too much about anything until then IMO. In terms of workload, I'm hoping around 50 or 55 like stated above assuming Osgood plays better next regular season. Enough time for rest IMO and it'll give Howard plenty of backup playing time to see if he folds or not in his first full NHL season, at least as a backup. Hush child.

All right, but those examples you listed were just as unproven at the time of the NHL TV deal with VS/OLN as VS/OLN was. And TBS or FX might not have wanted to broadcast games from minute 1 in the first place. It's not as simple as just wanting to go to something bigger than a cable provider. The bigger guys have to want to display the product as well and make money out of it.

I don't really pay as much attention to the broadcasts themselves or total coverage or whatever, the NHL could be on the Cartoon Network for all I care, just be available somewhere. I just want to watch the game. But, whether the brodcasts or coverage is good/bad is entirely subjective and neither here/there regarding this thread IMO. You hit the bull's eye on what I bolded. Versus may be bad to plenty of people, but at the time, what other networks outside of ESPN, which severed ties with the NHL, were "proven" in terms of displaying mainstream sports (football, baseball, basketball, and hockey) in the U.S. consistently on a daily basis (weekly and weekends)? TNT with basketball and that's all I can think of. I hate this ordeal just like everybody else, and sure Versus was "unproven" at the time of the deal in showing mainstream sports, but so was pretty much every other cable network as well if they agreed to broadcast NHL games. It's not entirely fair to say that Versus is an awful network in showing NHL or college football games because of this.

While I don't speak for everybody, it is probably because many Wings fans live in/around Michigan and are fans of local NBA team there if they like basketball, like the Detroit Pistons or Cleveland Caviliers. Also, the Lakers are an easy team to dislike if you aren't a fan of them, much like the Red Wings from an outsider, or the Cowboys or Patriots in the NFL, or the Yankees or Red Sox in MLB for example. Not too difficult of a concept to grasp.

Ok, answer this then. At the time of the deal with Versus, who else "proven" was out there? The league disbanded with ESPN and FOX natinal broadcasts before that. CBS on a consistent basis? Good luck, it's more less like NBC, broadcasts just one a week. TNT? Perhaps, but they got the NBA market cornered in terms of showing games on a consistetn basis during the week. Who else left is there that was "proven"? Very few networks, if any. So it's not as simple as ZOMG, VERSUS BAD, VERSUS VERY BAD here...

Both are leaders and some of the best in the game in their leagues, but that's where the comparison ends. And I'm sure most WIngs fans like the Pistons first, at least those living in/around Michigan that also like the NBA.

Not at all. Both excelled in their roles to certain degrees obviously, but nobody will ever touch Rodman in terms of creating drama/attention to himself. Rodman is a poster boy for being a freak show. If he liked it though, more power to him. He was one of the best in the biz in terms of defense, rebounding, but he was a freak sometimes as well. Nobody can be comparable to Rodman.

I still won't be surprised if a resolution comes as early as September 12th, the first broadcasted college football game on Versus. Again they don't broadcast the biggest names more often than not, but still have some solid matchups off the top of my head on VS. Texas @ Wyoming - In all likelihood a blowout but Wyoming rarely gets national pub and Longhorn fans are nutty about their football obviously, they're the #2 team in the land right now, fans of Texas will be PISSED OFF if they can't watch their game on 9/12. Florida State @ BYU - Late September I think, both teams currently in the top-20, and FSU has a storied football program and a big fan base despite recent turmoil. Again, fans would not be happy if they can't watch, just like UT fans. TCU @ BYU - In October, both teams currently in the top-20 and if they both have very few losses, could be a top 15/possibly top-10 matchup.
