Good for him, and good for him winning at such an early age. In the grand scheme of things, I have nothing against Crosby whatsoever. He's definitely worth the hype/marketability with his play and such. Focus on other players as well though along with him. It's pretty much just the Crosby show (and Ovechkin to an extent). That's what I'd like to see. I hate this both and that fans go overboard even worse at times obnoxiously obsessing over him, largely fueled by media attention he gets IMO. Understandable, but when do you stsop, where is the deep end of going overboard, when does it stop?

All sports teams are going to have their a**hole fans, Red Wings included.

I'd like the Wings to re-sign him. I get that playoffs are about results, production, blah blah blah. Overall, Hossa didn't produce much. However, a 7-game series or 1 playoff series is a really small sample size to critique a player. Not saying that Hossa shoudln't be critiqued but if we're going to get on his case for 1 season alone, then you can just as easily do the same for pretty much any NHLer that has played in a playoff series without the desired outcome. Yzerman didn't always have productive playoff seasons whenever the Wings bowed out early, Fedorov as well, etc. Hossa is still a helluva player and I'd like to see him back.

Congrats, Pittsburgh... hope next time you have to earn it!

I'm so glad this is over in one aspect regardless of whether the Wings won or lost. Officating in any sport is going to be inconsistent and there are going to be blown calls or bad ones in every game. Get the f**k over it. It is not a difficult concept to understand. There is no officiating conspiracy or purposefully handing Pitt the Cup no matter how much you want to belive it, no matter how much attention Crosby or Pittsburgh gets, whatever. Detroit had their chance. Twice. They didn't do it. They have nobody to blame but themselves for that. Get over the refereing slant. -
Meh, I'm filing this under the "Should we really give a s**t file." One of those things that media just goes way overboard with, like Lebron James not shaking hands of the Magic players. Heaven forbid Crosby or other Pitt players can't celebrating winning a championship for 5 minutes and enjoy the moment that they forget to shake a hand or two. Are we that desperate to get on people's cases?

I guess so? The person below me knows kung fu.

I'll sulk for a short while, be down in the dumps, then be fine in the morning. Watching my sports teams are important for me but they have their place in my life and whenever the game/event is done, I usually move onto the next thing pretty quickly in terms of my emotions and stuff. Yeah of course I'll be sad if the Wings don't win it. No, there won't be much disdain on my end towards Pittsburgh due to attention-***** status towards that team and a few of their players. But when your team gets all the way to the SCF and makes a damned good attempt in winning it (assuming they lose it in 7 games), it's hard to complain and you could do much worse.

Win it for the children. FOR GOD SAKES, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

The first goal will be a huge factor tomorrow

First goal is always important, but it is overhyped in general I think. It isn't the end-of-all-end solutions in winning a game. -
Lovely stuff sir.

Shhhhh. You are making too much sense!

Words that need to be banned from Hockey Vocabulary
SouthernWingsFan replied to MississippiWing's topic in General
Waffleboarded away. (although I find it funny ). This isn't breakfast. Knifed out of the zone. Hockey isn't a gang fight over turf! 9-ironed out of there. I used to play golf. I rarely hit that many bad 9-irons. A 9-iron is one of the easier clubs to hit and get high in the air in golf. Hockey isn't golf. And when 9-ironed term is used, it's used to say it's more/less flubbed out of the zone or gotten out of their in an ugly fashion. Logic people, logic! -
Is NBC that desparate for ratings? Pretty much everybody and their cousin who live in the Detroit and Pitt areas will be watching game 6 (and game 7 if there is one). Assume you have both arenas either hosting the game obviously or having watching parties there. JLA is roughly 20,000 seats and the Igloo 17,000 right? 37,000 missed broadcasts in those areas won't make all that much of a difference IMO given these are the cities involved in the championship.

It wouldn't shock me if Malkin won the Conn Smythe in a losing effort, nor would it disappoint me all that much. He certainly has the numbers and production to be in the running. The most important trophy is the one below. If that means that a Penguin wins the other trophy, fine by me.

All teams have their fair share of a**hole fans, whether they are the Red Wings, the Penguins, or the District-5 pee wee Ducks. Class and classy are words in here that are just so ridiculously overused it's not even funny.

When Pavel Met Evgeni--The turning point of the series
SouthernWingsFan replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Journalists and fans can say all they want about momentum and turning points or whatever, but at least for this series they have meant jack. The Red Wings were supposed to blow the Penguins out of the water after winning the first 2. The Penguins got all the momentum and the Red Wings are old and tired after the Penguins took the next 2. Jordan Staal's shorthanded goal changed the complection of the entire series. Look what happened in game 5 then. I'm not putting much stock in a hard hit in game 5 either being any kind of turning point either. -
Shouldn't be shocking. When the league has a large marketing focus on one/two players on the same team, and portrays that that team won the Stanley Cup when they didn't, there is going to be more bias towards them. Has less to do with being against the Red Wings and more to do with drinking Penguins kool-aid.

There aren't any more games on VS so I think everybodfy will be happy. As for traditions, I either sit on my couch and turn on my TV if I'm watching the game at home, or sit at a table or barstool or stand in a restaurant/bar if I go out to watch a game. What can I say, I keep it simple and original.

People need to get over that people are going to yell that Detroit sucks or Crosby sucks or *insert player's name here sucks*. I personally don't care one way or another about Crosby in the grand scheme of things and I think people in here are beyond obsessed with him at times when it isn't necessary or when Detroit is even close to playing Pittsburgh in a series or regular season game, but fans can easily act like bigger dips**ts and say much, much worse than somebody stinking up the joint. This is rated-G material.

I tell ya, I personally think that things like conspiracy theories or thinking that games are fixed somehow are the biggest waste of time. They barely even register as things to consider on my radar. No, the games right now are nowhere close to suggesting that. The shot of Bettman though was just disturbing though. I didn't hear any commentary because I was out watching the game (no sound), but it just looks like he was so disturbed that Pittsburgh was losing and might blow their chance a 2nd year in a row. This just goes to show you, put your marketing efforts outside of 1 player/team. In the grand scheme of things I have nothing against Crosby whatsoever, it's obvious of his talent and he's worth getting hyped about in the grand scheme of things. I have no problem promoting him. Other players deserve the spotlight as well, not just him.

Hardcore fans are going to be just that. When their team loses, I.Q.'s will go down temporarily. Certainly has happened here plenty as well whenever the Wings lose a game.
