This. I'm not sure how it'd be bad for ratings. One of the more popular teams across the country/teams you love to hate from a non-Wings fan standpoint depending on how you look at it (i.e. NY Yankees, New England Patriots, etc.) and two of the best young talents in the game today a year older and perhaps a year better on the ice, tearing it up in the playoffs so far, and one of those guys being one of the current faces right now of the NHL, whether you or I personally like it or not. A rematch of last year. Not sure why anybody would be wanting anything different, at least from a general hockey fan standpoint.

If you weren't such a fricken moron with the extremism and going beyond being anal picking out things wrong of a player that pretty much every does at some point in a game, you'd probably see that plenty agree with you to an extent. Everybody gets that he's probably a step slower. Everybody gets that he is getting closer to retirement years. Everybody gets from day 1 that he hasn't been a super skate out there, even when he was the Holmstrom of old (or young). He's probably my favorite player but I get that he has limitations. Babcock realizes this as well not playing him all the time with his usual linemates. His most important role, PP screening and net presence and crease crashing - he is still one of the best at it and it is a damned important role. To do that, he has to have playing time both on the power play and at even strength. You lose everybody when you act like an idiot going off the deep end with this all or nothing mentality that he is completely useless out there and yelling at people who view the situation LOGICALLY - understanding his importance while recoginzing his limitations, which is pretty much everybody in here except for you. He isn't utterly useless. If he were utterly useless he wouldn't be playing right now. Get it through your head full of bricks. Nobody has even come close to agreeing with you, and you are doing an awful job of convincing people to your side so far. I'm certainly glad you aren't the coach.

You are a sad person. What is with you not liking Holmstrom? Did he do something to you in the past life like pull your pants down in 4th grade homeroom or something? Seriously... You are the only person with this strong distaste of him, nobody agrees with you 100% on your extreme thoughts and distates of him, and yet you still seem to get the urge to come on here and get slaughtered. Doesn't seem like a good use of time to me.

The whole officiating thing is a mess in terms of how questionable calls are handled. Firstly, I'd be downright peeved as well if that specific call was on my team, so I don't hold Quenville against that. In the heat of the moment, you are likely to blow a gasket sometimes, and while it certainly benefited us, that call at the end of the 1st period was pretty bogus overall. Officiating overall is going to be inconsistent for all teams. It is just a fact of life when human error gets involved. Wings have certainly got shafted (i.e. "late goal" in Anaheim) but the example above shows they've benefited as well. Currently, you cannot call refs out without getting fined. I don't like it all that much, but that's the ruling and I understand keeping stuff like that "behind closed doors". I can guarantee you after the Hossa no-goal in the Anaheim series Babcock was fumed trying to keep it packed in while talking to media. I give him kudos for usually saying the right things (under the current structure) to implying that a referee goofed up, but understanding that people make mistakes and you gotta forget about it, etc. And I don't like how top brass handles their referees. I understand sticking by the refs through thick/thin and as stated above, games are going to be inconsistent due to human error so in the grand scheme of things I usually don't get too up in arms about officiating. However, just reading stuff like "He made the right call, no questions asked." or something similar is just annoying when everybody in the world knows it was a f'ed up situation (like the Hossa no-goal). Quit dodging the situation. For me personally, threre's no shame in admitting you were wrong or saying you screwed up.

TV purposes, so I understand wanting coverage, but back-to-backers on a Finals is ridiculous. I just don't get what was so wrong with the past TV format with VS covering the first 2 games and then NBC thereafter for the rest of the series. Say what you want about VS but they pretty much bend over backwards at least during the playoffs to give the NHL playoffs good extensive publicity.

I'll agree with Quenville that it was a pretty lame call there. Bad calls work both ways though. Both teams are going to get breaks/awful calls in pretty much any game or any sport. That's what happens when human error is introduced.

Quoted for truth. In the grand scheme of things, I'll agree with Quenville. That call at the end of the first was pretty awful. That being said though, officiating is going to be inconsistent for both teams on the playing surface, both teams are going to get their share of breaks and awful calls. That's natural, it's called human error. It isn't going to change anytime soon. Bad calls works both ways for both teams involved. Which is why, unless in extreme circumstances (i.e. Hossa no-goal in Anaheim series, etc.), I rarely get up in arms about a missed call here/there. It will happen. I will give kudos to the refs overall for keeing the game under control and not taking any crap for after-play stuff, giving out penalties/misconducts when deeemed appropriate.

I'll give him the current hypocritical award from game 3 and the biggest brainfart award from game 2.

Chelios is 47. Chelios has more/less been the 7th/8th defenseman all year. Even when Chelios was in for the playoffs, it was extremely limited time. And he certanily hasn't lit the world on fire in his limited playoff action to justify extensive playing time. Not sure why it was expected to be anything significantly different today. I like Chelios a lot but this has nothing to do with him and Babcock's relationship and more with Chelios being a reserved d-man and not playing well to begin with.

Eager and Versteeg should be ashamed of themselves. I understand getting frustrated but this game was a perfect example of why you don't blow gaskets or take liberties in games against a good team when you are trailing and all but out of it.

I bet if Campbell wasn't currently playing on the Blackhawks he probably wouldn't thnik the hit was as bad. Of course he's going to be biased towards that way though since he's currently on the team. Should we have expected otherwise? We've seen Krownall lay out people much harder, and/or off of his feet without anybody causing a s**t storm about it. This was a lesser hit.
