Are the Ducks becoming the new Avalanche?

This isn't even close to becoming what was the rivalry with the Avalanche in the mid-late 90s. However, this is the Wings current main rival IMO. If Chicago make the playoffs with some consistency, I think they'll eventually overtake Anaheim on the rival list.

    Ozzie still gets no respect

Oh well. Goalie's jobs are to stop the puck and win games. Osgood may not be the best goalie since sliced bread was invented but he usually does the job in stopping the puck and helping his team win games.

Report: Patrick Roy offered Avs' Head Coaching Position

If I were Tony Granato, I'd (1) be very upset obviously about these false reports from wherever they came from and (2) be very upset at Avalanche mgmt. for possibly going behind his back while he's under contract, without giving him any hints or notions supposedly that he's been fired/going to be fired.

The best "insults" you've heard against the Wings

Funny stuff there. Typical fan stuff though. They are going to find ways to dislike other teams they don't like, especially teams that have had great runs at success, like the Red Wings, or New England Patriots, New York Yankees, etc. As for media bias against the Wings, it's often overblown by people in here I think. But, you can pretty much substitute any team name for the Wings there, and the same can be said about fans of that team as well. While I do think there is definitely a positive bias towars the East and Pittsburgh right now, stuff like that and media stuff rarely bother me, I usually just tune stuff like this out and watch the game, I just don't see much point in going all out of my way to find ways why the media hates my team, when 99 times out of 100 that's generally not the case. No need to be a disgruntled fan.

    Hand Shake Moment

Not really priceless. You've never cried when you've gotten emotional? I've seen grown men cry after losing a big sporting event up close before. They want to win. They are going to play their hardest to win, and when they don't, it hurts a little bit. Right after it happens, it is the worst feeling in the world and you're going to let your emotions out. I don't blame Hiller and don't think he's any less of a man or person for crying, or that he's a wimp or anything. He played his rear end out giving the Ducks a chance to win the series, came damned close to pulling it off, only to come up short near the end of the final game. That'd hurt me a bit as well if it happened to me, as much as I dislike some of the Duck players. Hiller isn't one of them though. People cry and they get emotional sometimes. Nothing really new.

I will lose major respect for Chicago fans if

Agreed. Keep the disliking and taunting to the teams only. I'm from the New Orleans area. A year after Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Saints nearly made it to the Super Bowl, getting beaten by the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship game. I didn't go to that game in Chicago but I had friends/family that did. I heard storis from my cousins who went to the game and pretty much every story I heard from Saints fans that Bear fans were absolute pr**ks. I heard stories of people getting pelted by snowballs, getting pelted with them with projectiles/batteries in the snowballs. I heard a story that Saints fans reported over-the-top behavior of Bear fans to police, and they basically told the Saints fans, "Tough s**t." I even saw a picture of a Bear fan holding a sign that said "We're gonna finish what Hurricane Katrina started." Pissed me off to all ends. Basically like the Big Three/economy up in Michigan, Katrina is just something you don't make fun down here to locals without really pissing people off or making yourself look bad. It's just one of those no-no's. I'm pretty sure all Bear fans aren't like that. Hopefully the same with Blackhawk fans. Make fun of my team all you want. Make fun of me for liking my team. I'll laugh at that all day or just ignore. Make fun of my city or me living where I live or throwing projectiles at me or whatever, that's going too far.

Ducks fans crying about Game Winning goal.

Perhaps, but Wings fans in here do their fair share of complaining about refs as well. Sometimes justified, sometimes unjustified and well off the deep end.

We're halfway there - Playoff Beard Update!

I haven't shaved in a day, will be shaving shortly. I could easily have a decent grown beard if I don't shave for about 3-4 days, I could probably get away with one for at least some time with work, but I can't stand itching. It will itch, and I will scratch at it. I've never had a full-grown beard ever, but ast time I had any extensive facial hair was probably 3 years ago when I tried to grow a goatee out but just got tired of the itching factor.

2009 Round 2 Photoshop War: Anaheim Ducks

Beautfiul. I don't dislike a lot of guys in the NHL, it takes a lot for me to get to that level, but Pronger and Perry are two of those guys that no matter how good they are, I just don't like 'em much.

    Chris Osgood..wow!

I had pretty much confidence in him for the following reasons... His solid playoff run last season. Unless we have Titanic Part II, the Wings are going to have little/no trouble making the playoffs. Regular season success/struggles doesn't necessarily = what will happen in the postseason. Would I like a "money" goalie right now like Luongo or Hasek in his prime playing with the Wings to make me feel completely 100% comfortable at goalie? Without question. But the goalie isn't the end-of-all-end solutions to winning the Stanley Cup, and Luonogo didn't carry the Canucks to the Cup. My point is more/less I never fully have 100% faith in just solely one person no matter how much of a superstar or team player they might be, because hockey isn't just an individual sport. As long as Osgood (and all the other Wings players) do their part on the ice, they have a good chance of winning games more often than not. That means just making saves when needed, keeping brainfarts to a minimum, etc. Not so much having to steal so many games. Osgood has done this so far.

Ducks fans crying about Game Winning goal.

I haven't read thread in-depth so I apologize for any re-stated points. It was a good goal. And as much as I hate even bringing officials into game situations or having large effects determining outcomes of games, the Ducks got away with plenty. Pronger hog-tying Hossa down, and not being called for cross-checking Hudler into the goalie when Hudler got the penalty. And obviously there was the game 3 blown call at the end there which played a big factor in that Ducks win. Would that Detroit "goal" have put them over the top to win game 3? Who knows, but even Carlye said they were lucky to win that game and got a big break. Now, of course refs are going to make errors, I made my share as a sports referee for a brief time when I was in college. Human error will always exist in games. Duck fans better not come in with a sour grapes attitude that the refs cost them this game or this series, because they get away with A LOT for the style of game they typically play. That type of play makes the Ducks successful, which is fine and works for them. Duck fans get little/no sympathy from me with the referee whining card though when they get away with plenty and the Wings got shafted at least in game 3 of this series which really had a huge emphasis in determining that game. And the Ducks also failed to score on not one, but two 5-on-3 opportunities. If you want to call me a biased Wings fan and against the Ducks with these thoughts, fine. I don't like the Ducks all that much and really don't like Pronger and Perry. And no, the referees aren't out to get Detroit and there's no conspiracy to keep the Wings down, either by the refs or the NHL or whatever like some like to think in here. But the Ducks get away with A LOT.
