Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs
SouthernWingsFan replied to CenterIce's topic in General
How do you know Osgood is done? The season isn't even over yet. Nobody is done until the season is over. -
It is sad to say that I am not shocked by this. I echo Tim Thomas' thoughts word-for-word on Avery in the blurb earlier in this thread
-
Years/years ago? Perhaps. Now, not so much. His best years are behind him I think and you basically answered why the Wings wouldn't get him in your last sentence.

Good. Got to have confidence in himself despite him playing subpar this year, knowing he can help the team out. Better than I want to hang myself Legace, who unfortuatnely let's his pride affect his play way too much and is way too hard on himself. We've all seen Osgood do his part to get-r-done and help this team win a championship. He's won 2 as a starter/main guy. Who knows whether that'll happen again this year, but I have confidence in him to turn it around still and at the very least help this team to a deep playoff run. Call me an eternal optimist, blind homer, whatever, I don't care. I don't like being a pessimistic negative nance and I'm confident he'll turn it around based on what he's done in the recent past. That just doesn't go away all of a sudden by itself. -
Oh noez!

will the expanded playoff roster spark this team?

I'd hope so. Look not too long ago when Helm and Leino were up and Leino was in/out on the 4th line with Kopecky, Maltby, etc. Everybody raised their games up then IMO. -
Yes, that is why I am indoors right now. The person below me likes to blow s**t up.

Sunday's game against the Wild moved to 12:30 on NBC
SouthernWingsFan replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
All right, the whine factor has gotten a little bit ridiculous in this thread. Shoreline is right. When weekend games were broadcasted on ABC when hockey used to be on ESPN, game times weren't much different. And they wouldn't be much different if games went back to ESPN/ABC. And just about all games broadcasted on NBC this year have started at 12:30 ET. At least we root for a team that's so popular nationally hockey-wise that they at least get to be put on such broadcasts. And no matter how much you whine about it, golf is going to be more popular and easier to identify with than hockey, which means it is going to get a better time slot 9 times out of 10. You may not think it is more popular, I may not think it is more popular, but to the majority of people in this country, it is probably more popular and easier to identify with. Quit acting so spoiled and bitter and be thankful we have one of the better teams where they'll at least be on nationally sometimes. Quit reaching for stupid reasons in the complaint box. Find better things to whine about. Goaltending and enforcers don't count. -

Whatever. Game could be on Cartoon Network for all I care for me personally. Doesn't matter to me. I just want the game to be available SOMEWHERE. More the better if it is a national broadcast. -
Lovely stuff NFM.

Nope, no idea what the hell is going on. The person below me thinks it is a little bit silly about how many Agent Smiths there are on the Matrix movies.

Got no choice but to trust Osgood and Conklin. Barring injury, that's who the netminders are going to be in the playoffs. And before the Osgood bashers crucify me or accuse me of thoughts that he should be in the hall of fame or is 100% elite or whatever else, a disclaimer that I get that he hasn't played that great for most of the season. He has certainly played his part in losses, but you cannot tell me in a straight face that he is ultimately to blame for some of these recent losses. The defense has just been atrocious at times still and is leaving him out to dry. One-on-one, not a lot of netminders are going to consistently stop some of the shots that Osgood has given up. Two perfect examples yeseterday of the Sullivan and Smithson (?) goals, basically one-on-one after terrible defensive coverage or a turnove. Once again, before I get yelled at I get that Osgood hasn't played great or stolen many games for the Wings. However put any goalie good/bad on the Wings this year with the sloppy defense at times, their stats are going to go downhill. There is still time to sort this stuff out, games in the playoffs are usually with fewer scoring and tighter defense. The Wings aren't in any trouble missing the playoffs so it's just a formality that they'll be in as a #1 or #2 seed. Whatever. I have no problem going in with Osgood as the starter this year even through all the hoopla/defensive mishaps. If things fall apart quickly, whether it is primarily Osgood's fault with a soft goal or two, or the defense primarily hangs him out to dry, I do hope a goalie switch comes sooner than later. I trust both the goalies.
