O'Doyle - A ficitional character in the movie Billy Madison who gave Billy Madison fits until karma took his famly. Nope, can't tell diet drinks from each other because they have tasted terrible whenever I drank them. I don't drink soft drinks anymore. The person below me thinks this is funny.

He eats his Wheaties.

Even last year when the division improved, the Wings still won the division without much difficulty, even with that lengthy losing streak as well. Nothing to get too riled up about.

Negative. The person below me thinks that O'Doyle rules.

Magnifique. Unfortuatnely on my end my working out/exericse has been very minimal lately due to just being extremely busy and stress and things like that. I've put on a few pounds but nothing to cry home to mama about too much. I'd like to lose those 5-10 pounds again eventually. Plus I got a 10K race over Easter weekend which I probably would have little trouble finishing, but if I ran it now I wouldn't perform up to standards in all likelihood.

Every team good/bad is going to have their dry spells on the power play at some point in an extremely long season. It happens.

Quoted for truth.

How do you know he is done when the regular season isn't even over yet and there are games left to be played for? Nobody is done before the regular season is over unless they are too injured to play.
-
If they are around, yes, because they are more noticeable. The person below me yells in the morning for no apparent reason.

What the original poster is getting at, at least in my mind, that it CAN happen when a goalie might play subpar in a regular season but improve his numbers in the playoffs. It might not happen every season, hell it might not happen even half the time, scenarios might exist where it is impossible to happen, but it CAN happen, no matter how much statistical wizardry you throw out there or bashing on Osgood saying that he is a numnutz. It happened to Ward a few years ago, it CAN certainly happen with Osgood this year. That's all the original poster is saying IMO, nothing more or less.

I think a good bit of it might also have to do with Columbus making the playoffs for the first time ever in all likelihood assuming they just don't fall off the face of the earth. Whether a solid defensive system greatly contributed to that or not more than Mason himself, that's subjective (at least to me since I have barely watched Columbus this year), but with 10 shutouts and a solid GAA I'm assuming, Mason has certainly done his part to help put Columbus where they are at for a great chance for a playoff berth. 10+ shutouts in a season is hard to come by these days I'm betting as an NHL goalie where offense is pereceived/favored more in the game today IMO. Heck, it's hard any year now. I know that shouldn't be the end-of-all-end factors to being a Vezina etc., but it should obviously be considered. I think that along with the 1st playoff birth are big reasons why Mason could be a candidate. And it's just a great feel-good story regardless of if you are a fan of Columbus/Mason or not - a rookie goalie probably not many people have heard of, very young, and he's just kicking butt overall in his first year to being one of the best guys on his team/one of the better goalies in the league.

Nope but that sounds fun to do. The person below me has knocked over a port-a-potty before with somebody in it.

A beautiful post. Sure Osgood has had his "help" in the past, but when you never have a losing season of any kind in a lengthy career, well I think you are doing pretty well for yourself. If bashers want to imply this by saying I'm delusional or think he's a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame or whatever else, go ahead and put words in my mouth.

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Hossa Cleary-Draper-Samuelsson Hudler-Helm-Leino Kopecky/Maltby/Downey/McCarty/Abdlekader, etc. Lidstrom-Rafalski Stuart-Krownall Lilja-Ericsson Lebda/Chelios If injuries on either forward or defense, I'd give Kopecky first nod, and virtually split 50-50 down the middle on Lebda and Chelios.

The misconception that Datsyuk and Zetterberg are equal

This thread and the original poster (with two alises in all likelihood) are making me... -
I love McCarty, the fan would me would thoroughly enjoy if he's able to contribute in the playoffs given where he was and how he has turned himself around. Even when some forwards were injured off/on recently, he was nowhere to be found in the depth chart of forwards. Helm, Leino, even utility-man Meech probably are one-upping him on the depth chart. If there is a scenario that is urgently needed to keep the flies off, he might play, but given how that mentality usually is not as apparent in the playoffs, it's slim-none that he's playing I think unless injuries hit the roster.

I don't know since I don't know what it is. The person below me likes Powdered Toast Man.

No. If that was the case, Zetterberg would have a harder time winning the Conn Smythe last year in the playoffs. Calling Datsyuk the best forward in the game right now this season has some pretty good merit to it. Between the two, it's easy to say that Datsyuk has been better than Zetterberg overall this year. Zetterberg has been far from a slouch though. Last year though, probably the other way around with Zetterberg being better overall than Datsyuk, and obviously not trying to shun Datsyuk that way either. Neither player has to carry one another, both are world-class players. -
How do you know that Osgood isn't going to improve? The season isn't even over yet. People here get that Osgood has struggled some this year, but they realize that the season isn't over yet and there is still time for him to produce better. That's not blind/ignoring the fact that he hasn't played well at times.

Yep! The person below me has pricked their finger recently.

Still time to sort this stuff out before the playoffs start... 1 game doesn't define an entire season (yes I know Osgood has had more than one bad game this year)... Wings have even had bad games/goaltending in the playoffs at time and it still worked out pretty well (last year in 1st round, 2002 WC Quarterfinals vs. St. Louis game 3, 1997 WCF vs. Colorado game 5 as examples)... In terms of this year, no choice but to go with Osgood or Conklin unless they get injured, no choice but to trust them... Osgood is not done, Conklin is not done...
