Kyle Quincey earlier tonight against Phoenix.
SouthernWingsFan replied to sureWhyNot's topic in General
Quoted for truth. Depth. For Qunicey in Detroit, the depth factor didn't work out. But, for the overall team, having too much depth is a good problem. We could all debate and argue and yell at each other whether Quincey or player ABC should be played in favor of Chelios or Lebda or player XYZ, and vice versa until our faces turn yellow. Quincey still had his chances to outperform lower-lined defensemen in Detroit in pre-season, limited playing time with Detroit, and he didn't do enough to seal the deal. Whether it was fair or not that he got let go, he still had his chances if we wanted to stay in Detroit. Would I have liked to see him work out with the Wings? Without question. But I'm glad he's doing well with the Kings. -
Welcome aboard!

Congrats to Kopecky! :chug:

Sometimes a necessary evil. Nice stats there, but sorry I just don't care that badly to read it. I don't care. You value people of toughness/fighting etc. very highly. That's fine. I do to a lesser degree. That's fine as well. It's not going to kill me if the Wings don't consistently dress one. The Wings still typically win on a consistent basis without a big tough guy consistently in their lineup.
-
And vice versa, Wings are more than capable of finishing teams off early as well. Doesn't matter to me who the Wings face, other teams will be cranking up their effort since the Wings are typically good and are the SC defending champs, no matter who they face. For distance sake though and first time matchup, I'd like to see them face Columbus.

I haven't read this thread in detail because it isn't worth it, and threads like this in here are the same stupid s**t every time. But basically what I don't like is when people act like little spoiled drama queen teenage girls because ZOMG the Wings don't fight all the time as much or ZOMG the Wings don't always run people out of the building, that ZOMG because the Wings don't have one more extra big bully that ZOMG we are so fricken screwed and so fricken soft and ZOMG this team is a joke when this team has been so consistently good for the longest time. Because that is the attitude that some people bring on here to such extremes acting like a big bunch of babies and that is a fricken joke to me personally. Spare me the card that everybody has this type of player. I get it. Still the Wings makeup over for a while now is generally more skill less brawn. The Ducks try to win their way with brawn. The Wings try to win their way with more skill typically, and have been fairly successful with it over the years. If a big guy or two can be had, great, let's all sing kumbayah. But I'm not crying myself to sleep like some would in here if it doesn't happen.

The Biggest Problem with the Defense and Osgood
SouthernWingsFan replied to Datsyerberger's topic in General
Never say never, but Holland stated he's not on the market for a goalie at the trade deadline. It's slim/none that it is going to be anybody different than Osgood/Conklin in the playoffs, barring injury of course. -
Poor Pronger, sorta.

This is a myth, at least for me even though I've shredded a few pounds.

The Biggest Problem with the Defense and Osgood
SouthernWingsFan replied to Datsyerberger's topic in General
Sorry guys/gals, but I don't like to play the scapegoat game. Both Osgood has been bad this year a good bit, and the defense has been bad some, and not shockingly both have been bad at the same time at plenty portions of this season. A little bit of Column A, a little bit of Column B. And spare me the I'm an Osgood apologist or looking for excuses for him. Both him and defense have been bad plenty this year, although the defense looks to be rounding into form. The Wings don't have a goalie that is going to steal 30 games a year for you. Just not going to happen and it isn't realistic to think it is going to happen. If the defense ultimately shores up to a lot of its play last postseason, Osgood's numbers will go down in all likelihood. Osgood is certainly capable of reducing his numbers on his own at stretches, but I'd count on the former more than the latter. Not to say that I have zero faith in Osgood whatsoever, far from it. Just saying that every goalie needs help from his defense every now and then, I don't care how good or bad he is. I trust both Osgood and Conklin, have no choice to since in all likelihood these are the 2 goalies the WIngs are going to go with in the playoffs. If they are playing around the top of their game and the defense continues to improve, things will be mighty promising. -
Nah, it's just a computer. The person below me thinks this is hilarious.

Damn edi, you are almost down to my weight! That's awesome man. I got an e-mail today which made me giggle a bit. I ran in a 10K race last weekend in nearby Baton Rouge about an hour or so from the New Orleans area and apparently have some running photos of myself in it. One of them was a terrible attempt of me trying to wave at the camera like a goober. Can't really complain about my results though considering how nuts things have been down here lately and me not running/exercising as much. I ran 10K/6.2 miles in 54:15, roughly an 8:45 pace/mile. I placed 265th out of over 800 racers, so I finished in the upper 3rd.

Somewhat. With stuff like this I refuse to just have one true scapegoat. Osgood has not been good of course, but the defense hasn't been the sharpest in front of him either throughout the year. A little of column A, a little of column B, etc. Osgood has got some bad flukey bounces a bit more it seems. However, he seems to let in a bit more juicy rebound attempts as well.

Wish I knew. On the bowling thing, I could never figure out how to put spin on the ball, but the last few years of college I literally lived a half mile from a bowling alley and went bowling almost every late Wednesday night for a stretch and got halfway good, even cracked 200 once and bowled 6 strikes in a row once. The person below me has monsters in their closet.

Quoted for truth. And spare me the droopy eyes or angry rants of "Why is it a crime to question what this organization does?" I get it. This team does not scrap much. It is not sad or pathetic. It just means that this team does not scrap much, nothing more/less. It has been this way for a while now. I'll take consistent winning and winning a Cup here/there every few years as being more important than possibly having 10-15 more fights a year.

These two things. There are obviously exceptions to this in any sport. Sean Avery, Charles Barkley, Terrell Owens, etc. have always had the knack to stir up unnecessary drama, but a major reason why a lot of these brief interviews are so bland is because guys have answered these questions thousands of times, people interviewing them have asked them thousands of times, that you are going to get the same answers more/less. And, it is usually better for the career to be boring and not stir up controversy etc. b/c media in general can be pretty stupid and overanalyzing if that happens.

I sure think so. Thankfully, I do not have an alcoholic father, so I think I am all right with this one. What do you want me to say? People have analyzed this stuff in here to shreds that could create a new textbook for high school, I refuse to get heartburn over this stuff like some do in here, my stance has always been that this team makes the playoffs without much trouble, and like last year they made the playoffs without difficulty and never really sorted out the goaltending situation until April/when the playoffs started. The playoffs haven't even started yet, it isn't even March, so despite how bad Osgood has been so far, there is still time for him to play better, and this team is still making the playoffs through this. There is still time to sort out who is definite #1 b/w Osgood and Conklin, just like Osgood-Hasek last year when they were still tandeming at this point. I wish there was some magic solution or Liquid Schwartz to make him play better, but it isn't that simple. If it was, everybody would take Liquid Schwartz. So with that said, I take the route of rooting for both goaltenders and sometimes making smart-allec/cutesy posts instead of getting all hell bent out of shape with this stuff.

Kopecky plays because the coaching staff thinks he has something to offer given the role(s) the coaching staff wants him to play. If he didn't, he could have easily been put on waivers a long time ago. Spare me the Best Friend's For Life tag with Marian Hossa. Best Friend's For Life don't run a sports organization.
