Half and half. The people wouldn't be bitching about it if it wasn't there at all. It is there, to a degree, but not IMO so much to where people are constatly frothing over the mouth of Crosby and nothing else. And, as you mentioned, the broadcasters were up in stroking Datsyuk's ego and the Illitch's just as much, if not more as well. The focus on Crosby is there, but what I continually will not understand is fans putting so much effort and extra energy to find stuff wrong like this to make yourself that much more miserable about something, almost like it is a full-time job. They hate this focus he gets, but they take their anger to just as bad of an extreme, if not worse, as they think the broadcasters have. So he gets some more focus than other players or the Red Wings team. All right, big deal. I wish I had a million dollars, but that isn't happening anytime soon. There are worse things and life. Maybe it is because I don't care as much and I particually tune out annoucers in general and just watch the game itself, but I just don't see it even being that extreme even when I do pay attention. I don't know, maybe this is just part of "being a fan" that I either don't get or won't really take a part in all that much. Maybe I'm just naive when it comes to this. In terms of the past game itself, the reference around the end of one of the periods where the Wings might goon up Crosby was pretty irrelevant and pointless I think, but other than that, I just didn't see the total 100% focus and stroking of Crosby's ego, and his alone, 24-7-365 like plenty have gripes about or much in the way of "no-nos" in broadcasting etiquette or whatever. That being said, I'm all for putting focus on plenty of other good players in the league as well though, not solely Crosby or primarily him. And I have no ill will towards Crosby himself.

Hopefully he hasn't changed his ringtone, as I also am a big James Brown fan as well.

S**t happens there. It sucks that it happened to Lilja who was one of the typical whipping boys back then, but to me that muffed pass was really one of those fluky things that maybe happens once every hundred games or so that you rarely see. It's not comparable to passing it blindly (or even awaringly) in the other team's zone leading to a turnover, taking a brainfart penalty in your offensive zone, etc. Sometimes stuff happens that the player has little control over. Muffed passes. You lose an edge and you fall. A stick breaks when you take a shot. Etc. That muffed pass was one of those instances I think. In terms of his game though, given his expected point production (which isn't a lot obviously to start) and playing style, he's been one of the more consistent and dependable defensemen so far this season I think.

Nope, I got about 20345 things to do at work today and I usually like work so I don't mind it. The person below me has accidentally left their trunk or hatchback door before, leading to unfortuante (but funny) results, like this.

Franzen, though Cleary is no slouch whatsoever and success as a player isn't always tied to points, as Franzen will usually have a leg up on Cleary regarding this. I'm glad the Wings have both players.

I'm absolutely feelin' the love in this thread. Sounds like a good time for a group hug. *shrugs*

Yep. I got nothing against Crosby whatsoever. Unfortunately him being one of the main/the main focal point, whether he asked for it or not, he's going to get a lot of crap. Some deserved probably, but a lot of it going overboard. Market other players with a lot of emphasis as well is what I'm saying, not just Crosby alone.

I think once more players get available at the end of the season due to minor leagues ending, there's a good chance they will be on the same line. Cap situation when everybody gets healthy again might put a wrench to that plan before then. Unless Helm's play just falls completely in the crapper for whatever reason, I think there's a good chance he'll be a regular late in the season/once the playoffs start, which means more centermen, which means a better bet of keeping Datsyuk and Zetterberg together.

In regards to the game today itself, yeah the broadcasters focused on Crosby some to be expected, but I don't think it was too overhyped or overdramatic. They gave the Red Wings and the organization their fair share of kudos and time as well, just as much or possibly more than Crosby or Crosby/Malkin, etc. All the attention Crosby gets never bothered me to start, it still doesn't. I'm pretty much done though thinking that people are off the deep end obsessed with finding anything/everything wrong with Crosby when very little of it is his doing in my opinion vs. media hype. Yeah, I still think it is ridiculous how fans focus on him like they have no other hobbies, but I understand the beef with him because of this. If media wants to keep focusing on Crosby, let them knock themselves out. Won't bother me whatsoever. It doesn't hurt and I'd like to see them put more focus outside of just primarily Crosby and Ovechkin, etc.

Don't really hate the Rangers or any team, but shouldn't you expect to hear the same kind of stuff if you lived there? I'd expect the same type of thing in any other city, regardless of the professional team or sport. Every team has its homer fans. I hear people stroke the New Orleans Saints' egos nearly every weekend in the fall during football season and we usually under-achieve. Nothing to lose too much sleep over.

Neato for the Wings cause in the standings obviously, yeah I want the Wings to finish #1 in the standings, but it is slim/none that these teams finishing anything besides #1/#2 in the Western Conference, so a losing streak here or there probably isn't going to mean much in the grand scheme of things, at least standings-wise.

Wings Would Like To Re-sign Kopecky
SouthernWingsFan replied to Heroes of Hockeytown's topic in General
I know he isn't a favorite of plenty of people in here, but this is absolutely a chicken s**t thing to say. I'm not going to lose sleep if Kopecky is gone but management and coaching see something in him that us fans don't apparently. That's fine with me since they know more than us anyways. If they re-sign him, great. If not, same feeling. Whatever is basically the mojo here. -

And the forum implodes... He's not my favorite, but thank you both for these. -
Saw post-Cup stuff after game 6 on CBC on YouTube and they introduced all the players/coaches for the Wings and who their favorite player was going up. Datsyuk said without any guilt whatsoever - "I don't have a favorite player."
